Investigation of Oxidation of Silicon Nanoparticles Capped with Butyl and Benzophenone against Its Stabilization (Benzophenone과 알킬 그룹으로 Capping된 실리콘 나노입자의 안정성에 대한 산화 연구)

  • New synthetic route and characterization of alkyl-capped nanocrystalline silicon (R-n-Si) were achieved from the reaction of silicon tetrachloride with sodium/benzophenone ketal reducing agent followed by n-butyllithium. Surface of silicon nanoparticles was derivatized with butyl group. Effect of oxidation of silicon nanoparticle with benzophenone was investigated for their stabilization. Optical characteristics of silicon nanoparticles were characterized by fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR), ultraviolet-visible spectroscopy (UV-vis), and photoluminescence (PL) spectroscopy. Butyl-capped silicon nanoparticles exhibited an emission band at 410 nm with excitation wavelength of 360 nm. Average size of n-butyl-capped silicon nanoparticles was obtained by particle size analyzer (PSA) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM). Average size of n-butyl-capped Si nanoparticles was about 6.5 nm.

Stable blue light emitting polyfluorenes with good solution processibility

  • New polyfluorene derivatives, poly[9,9-bis(4' n-octyloxyphenyl)] fluorene (PAPF-8) and poly[9,9-bis(4'-(2",7"-dimethylocyloxy)phenyl)] fluorene (PAPF-10) were synthesized from the monomers, 2,7-dibromo-9,9-bis[4' (2"-ethylhexyloxy)benzene] fluorene and 2,7-dibromo-9,9-bis[4' (2", 7"-dimethyloctyloxybenzene)] fluorene through the Ni(0) mediated polymerization. The copolymers were characterized using FT-IR spectroscopy, UV-vis spectroscopy, TGA, photoluminescence (PL) & electroluminescence (EL) spectroscopy, elementa analysis, and molecular weight studies. The synthesized POPF-8 and POPF-10 showed a pure blue emission without any spectral change upon thermal annealing and EL device operation.

  • Tris(8-hydroxyquinoline)-aluminum complex($AlQ_3$) having greenish luminescent characteristics was synthesized and it was confirmed with UV-Vis absorption spectroscopy, elemental analysis, and FT-IR spectroscopy that $AlQ_3$ was successfully synthesized. Thin films of $AlQ_3$ having multilayer structure were prepared by spin coating method and vacuum evaporation technique. Photopluminescent characteristics of these films were investigated by Luminescence spectroscopy and Current-Voltage(I-V) characteristics of these films were also investigated.

  • Novel compounds with rod and disc mesogens were synthesized and characterized. The molecular structures were confirmed by FT-IR, $^1H$-NMR spectroscopy and elemental analysis. The optical properties of these molecules were investigated by UV-vis absorption spectroscopy and photo-luminescence spectroscopy. We found that they are a novel series of blue light-emitting molecules. The absorption spectra peaks of these compounds varied from 336 nm-341 nm, while the maximum emissions centered form 410 nm-450 nm in chloroform solution. However, unexpectedly we could not found their biaxiality and mesomorphic properties by POM, conoscopy and DSC method.

  • We have investigated quantitative measurement techniques of the degree of dispersion of single-walled carbon nanotubes (SWNTs). SWNTs were suspended in aqueous media using a sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS) surfactant. SWNTs with different dispersion states were prepared by controlling the intensity and time of sonication and centrifugation. The laser spectroscopic techniques were employed to characterize the dispersion state; i.e., raman fluorescence and absorption spectroscopic techniques. Raman spectroscopy has been used to probe the dispersion and aggregation state of SWNTs in solution. Individually suspended SWNTs show increased fluorescence peaks and decreased roping peaks at a raman shift 267 $cm^{-1}$ compared with the samples containing bundles of SWNTs. The ultraviolet-visible-near infrared (UV-vis-NIR) absorption spectrum of decanted supernatant samples show sharp van Hove singularity peaks

Spectroscopic Characteristics of Ruby from Gorno-Badakhshan, Tajikistan (타지키스탄 고르노바다흐샨주 지역 루비에 대한 분광학적 특성 연구)

  • Physical properties, XRF, UV-Vis, FTIR studies were carried out in order to characterize gemological features of ruby from Tajikistan. Fluorescence reaction of the Tajikistan ruby to short wave ultraviolet was moderate to very strong in red and long wave ultraviolet rays was weakly detected. UV-visible analysis strong absorption bands at 468.5, 475, 476.5 nm and broaden bands at 550 nm were observed for ruby due to $Cr^{3+}$. According to FT-IR analysis, all rubies from Tajikistan showed the similar patterns and kaolinite peaks at 3500, 3617, 3630, $3677cm^{-1}$ and boehmite broaden absorption bands at 3085 and $3320cm^{-1}$. Inclusions in Tajikistan ruby are observed solid inclusions, negative crystals, needle and silk inclusions. These distinctive characteristics mentioned above can be used to identify the locality and source of ruby stones from Tajikistan.

  • Chemical bath deposition (CBD) 기술에 의해 slide glass 기판 위에 CdS 박막을 적층 형성하였다. 적층된 박막들은 CdCl2와 thiorea (H2NCSNH2)를 증류수와 혼합 시dipping의 온도 조건, pH 조건, 시간 및 횟수를 달리하여 균일한 표면이 형성되도록 하였다. 적층된 박막은 $200^{\circ}C$ 이상의 고온에서 annealing하여 결정화하였다. 적층한 박막은 결정화 요인들을 XRD, FE-SEM, AFM, EDX, UV-Vis spectroscopy를 통해 조사하였다. 형성된 박막은 포토레지스터로 활용될 가능성을 조사하였다.

  • Silicon-containing ${\pi}$-conjugated compounds, especially silacyclopentadienes (siloles), have emerged as a new class of electroactive materials with good electron transport properties in OLEDs. 9,9'-spiro-9-silabifluorene compound as well as its starting material 2,2'-dibromobiphenyl have been synthesized with higher yields. Spirosilabifluorene is expected to be an efficient host material for the blue-light emitting diodes. 9,9'-spiro-9-silabifluorene, 1,1-dichloro-1-silafluorene, and 1,1-dimethyl-1-silafluorene were characterized by $^1H$-NMR, UV/Vis and photoluminescence spectroscopy.

Synthesis and Photoluminescent Properties of Silaspirotropylidene (Silaspirotropylidene의 합성 및 광학적 특성)

  • A silaspirotropylidene has been obtained from the reaction of the lithium salt of tetraphenylsilole dianion with 2 equiv of diphenylcyclopropene, followed by quenching with Me3SiCl. Silaspirotropylidene exhibits an unusual optical property its optical property was characterized by UV-vis and fluorescence spectroscopy. Absorption wavelength maxima of silaspirotropylidene was 420 nm. silaspirotropylidene displayed an emission band at 550 nm with excitation wavelength of 420 nm.

  • Anion receptor based on 2-imidazolidone molecular scaffold has been synthesized. Anion binding studies carried out using 1H NMR and UV?vis spectroscopy revealed that this receptor 6 displays selectivity for the for the oxyanions such as acetate and dihydrogenphosphate ions and the affinity for the anions simply reflects the basicity of anions.
