This paper describes UPnP AV System which provides various multimedia services in home network composed of diverse multimedia devices. It is difficult to build home network where various multimedia services can be provided because there are a lot of difference devices, platforms, and network technologies. However, UPnP middleware can make up multimedia service environment in that home network. Therefore this paper describes how the multimedia service environment is built with UPnP middleware. We analyze and modify MediaServer, MediaRenderer, and Control Point, which these are the components of UPnP AV archtecture. Additionally we provide some efficient GUI to use different kind of multimedia in any place of home networks. We propose UPnP AV Framework of playback module that consist of MediaServer providing contents, MediaRenderer using contents, and Control Point providing GUI. Especially, MediaRenderer and Control Point are integrated in set-top.

본 논문은 UPnP 기반의 홈 네트워크 환경에서 사용자가 가정 내에서 위치에 상관없이 다양한 AV 서비스를 제공받기 위한 UPnP AV 프레임워크의 재생모듈을 제안 한다. 현 UPnP AV 아키텍처의 미디어 서버, 미디어 렌더러, 컨트롤 포인트를 통합한 비디오 재생 모듈을 분석하여 현재 통용되는 시스템에서의 불필요한 점을 제거하고 문제점을 해결하였다. 뿐만 아니라 가정에 존재하는 미디어 컨텐츠를 분류하여 보여주는 효율적인 GUI를 제공함으로써, 사용자는 UPnP AV 서비스를 편리하게 이용할 수 있다. 논문에서 제안하는 UPnP AV 프레임워크의 재생모듈은 미디어 컨텐츠를 제공하는 미디어 서버와 이를 재생하는 미디어 렌더링, 사용자 인터페이스를 제공하는 컨트롤 포인트에서 미디어 렌더링과 컨트롤 포인트가 같은 셋탑에서 동작하는 통합된 UPnP 미디어 플레이어이다.

UPnP AV Framework automatically integrates and manages various AV devices that are connected to network as an important component in home network. Therefore, user can access and control AV contents at any time. But, other existing home entertainment systems target multimedia service support that is based on multimedia home server system. In this paper, we propose an integrated home entertainment system (u-MUSE system) that supports remote control service. It can manage application in remote AV device or control AV contents directly in home network environment. The proposed system sufficiently performs role of control center for electronic devices in home via integrated system control and AV contents playback service.

본 논문은 UPnP 기반의 홈 네트워크 환경에서 실시간 멀티미디어 전송 서비스를 받기 위한 UPnP AV 프레임워크를 제안한다. 홈 네트워크 내 컨텐츠에서의 AV 비율은 점차 증가하고 있으며, 사용자들은 특히 비디오 컨텐츠의 실시간 전송 서비스를 요구하고 있다. 기존 UPnP AV 프레임워크에서 HTTP-GET 방식의 스트리밍으로는 실시간 서비스를 하는데 있어서 한계가 있으므로, 본 연구에서는 RTP/RTSP 스트리밍 방식으로 실시간 미디어 컨텐츠 전송 서비스가 가능한 확장형 미디어 재생 프레임워크를 구현하였다. 그 결과 홈 네트워크 사용자는 개인 단말에 컨텐츠 전체를 다운받지 않더라도 컨텐츠 이용이 가능하게 되었다.

최근 디지털 TV, DVD 플레이어, 홈시어터와 같은 디지털 A/V 기기들을 통합하여 멀티미디어 컨텐츠를 서비스 받는 홈 네트워크 기술에 대한 관심이 높아지고 있다. 이러한 환경에서 UpnP를 이용한 디지털 기기들의 상태를 모니터링하고, 사용자의 요청과 제어 명령을 전달하여, 멀티미디어 컨텐츠를 서비스 받을 수 있도록 하는 연구는 매우 중요하다. 그러나 UPnP는 TCP/IP 기반의 프로토콜을 사용하기 때문에 사용자 인터랙션에 의한 전송 지연 시간이 발생한다. 그러므로 본 논문에서는 셋탑 박스에 최적화된 UPnP AV 시스템을 구현하고 AV 컨텐츠의 효율적인 재생을 위한 UPnP프레임워크의 재생 기법을 제안한다. UPnP AV 시스템은 미디어 서버가 있고, 미디어 서버에 저장된 비디오/오디오 파일 등을 전송받아 재생하기 위한 셋탑 박스에는 컨트롤 포인트와 UPnP 미디어 렌더러의 통합 모델이 탑재된다. 이러한 기법은 다양한 기기를 제어하고 호환성을 제공하는 UPnP프레임워크가 될 수 있다.

In ubiquitous environment, there are no limits to utilize networks whenever and wherever you are. That pervasive networks are combined with the information devices and then create various services such as car navigation of LBS(location based service) and DMB(Digital Multimedia Broadcasting). As these kinds of services are getting more various, the complexity is also getting higher and ultimately the convergence will make people feel frustrated. One of the solutions is Context-Awareness[1] technology. User interface with context-awareness filters unnecessary information and prevents users from being blocked due to the massive information. In this paper, we describe the seamless service system based on location-awareness, which is a type of context-awareness. We developed the system based on UPnP AV Framework. This system provides the automatic terminal device selection for the nomadic user. The system establishes new connections for the ongoing streaming playback session with the new AV devices without substantial loss of playback so that the user can enjoy the seamless service. The AV device selection based on the user's location needs no user's intervention or notification so it achieves the improvement of usability and complexity.
