Effects of Mulberry Leaf Tea Fermented by Monascus pilosus on Body Weight and Hepatic Antioxidant Enzyme Activities in Mouse Fed High-Fat Diet (Monascus pilosus 발효 뽕잎차가 고지방 식이 마우스의 체중과 간 조직 항산화계 효소 활성에 미치는 영향)

  • In this study, we investigated the preventive effects of the mulberry leaf tea fermented by Monascus pilosus on high fat-induced obesity, hyperlipidemia, and fatty liver in mice. Non-fermented mulberry leaf tea powder (UM) and fermented mulberry leaf tea powder (FM) were supplemented with high-fat diet at 2% (wt/wt) dosage for 8 weeks. Both UM and FM lowered body weight gain, feed efficiency ratio, epididymal fat, serum triglyceride, total cholesterol and LDL-cholesterol increased markedly with high fat diet (HC) in mice. FM showed more significant effects when it was compared with UM. In addition, Hepatic lipid peroxides and xanthin oxidase activities of the UM and FM were significantly lower than those of HC, despite the lack of a big difference in the amount of hepatic GSH. Activities of ROS scavenging enzymes and serum alanine aminotransferase activity were also examined as a parameter of hepatic damage. The UM and FM groups showed a recovery to NC group from significant changes induced by HC. Finally, histopathological analyses of liver samples revealed a decrease of lipid accumulation in hepatocytes in the UM and FM groups. These results suggest that UM and especially FM can reduce the development of obesity, hyperlipidemia and fatty liver.

  • This Experimental study was done to investigate the effect of the Taklisodok-um on the Anti-allergic response. The results were obtained as follows: 1. On vascular permeability response to the intradermal injected Histamine, the Taklisodok-um treated group revealed more significant decrease than control group. 2. On vascular permeability response to the intradermal injected Serotonin, the Taklisodok-um treated group revealed more significant decrease than control group. 3. In the 48hrs homologous passive cutaneous anaphylaxis provoked by the IgE-like antibody against white egg albumin, there was no significant difference between the Taklisodok-um treated group and control group. 4. The Taklisodok-um treated group revealed more significant inhibitory effect than control group in the delayed type hypersensitivity response to Picryl chloride. 5. The Taklisodok-um treated group revealed more significant inhibitory effect than control group in the delayed type hypersensitivity response to SRBC. According to the above-stated results, it is considered that the Taklisodok-um could be applied widely to the type I and IV allergic diseases.

Umbraulva yunseulla sp. nov. (Ulvaceae, Chlorophyta) from a subtidal habitat of Jeju Island, Korea

  • Specimens of Umbraulva with greenish iridescent were collected in the subtidal zone of Jeju Island, Korea. To investigate these collections, plastid rbcL and tufA sequencing of six greenish iridescent specimens, including four Umbraulva japonica, were analyzed. Phylogenetic analysis of a concatenated multigene alignment found that the greenish iridescent specimens belonged to a yet undescribed taxon in the genus Umbraulva. We herein propose the name Um. yunseulla sp. nov. for this specimens. Juveniles of Um. yunseulla sp. nov. resemble the generitype Um. japonica in appearance, showing globular to subglobular and funnel-shaped habits, but the blades of this new species are not split longitudinally like those of Um. japonica. Although the multigene phylogenetic tree showed the polyphyletic clade of Umbraulva with respect to the genus Ryuguphycus, Um. yunseulla sp. nov. formed a clade with Um. japonica and Um. amamiensis by weak bootstrap support. These findings, Um. yunseulla sp. nov., highlight the importance of studying the biodiversity of subtidal habitats from Jeju Island, Korea and further emphasize the need for investigations of macroalgae in the mesophotic zone around the Korean peninsula.

  • Studies on alternative energy have been carried out for many decades because of the accelerated exhaustion of fuel. While the efficacy of solar cells is still low in comparison with that of nuclear power, solar cells have been highlighted as potential sources of alternative energy because they are environmentally friendly and have a source of unlimited energy, namely, the sun. In this study, the optimum efficiency of solar cells was simulated as a function of the incident angle of sunlight and the geometric shapes of patterns using MATLAB and MathCAD software. The foremost efficiency of the solar cell was found to be 1.10 when the thickness and width of the patterns were in the range 25-$50{\mu}m$ and 50-$100{\mu}m$, respectively. To achieve the 25 um thick layer, 100,000 cps silver paste and 500 um orifice tip has been successfully implemented with Micro-Dispensing Deposition Writing.

  • According as we look around a notion of LM-YANG(陰陽) in NAE-KYUNG(內徑) or ancient for example the Book of Changes(周易), we will find that the principle of UM-YANG of philosophy in ancient china was applied medical science by NAE-KYUNG, and Chung-Kyung(仲景) connected principle of UM-YANG in NAE-KYUNG to demonstration and medical treatment(辨證施治) of SANG-HAN disease(傷寒病). According as we look around 3UM-3YANG(三陰三陽) in NAE-KYUNG and various theories of another scholar connected 3UM-3YANG of SANG-HAN-RON(傷寒論), we can know that the whole of SANG-HAN-YUK-KYUNG(傷寒六經) cannot explain by a some conception, we cannot understand precisely rear meaning of SANG-HAN-YUK-KYUNG until theories-JANG-BU(臟腑), GYUNG-RAK(經絡), GI-HWA(氣化), a reigon, a layer, and so on-are studied totally. Therefore 3UM-3YANG of SANG-HAN-RON(傷寒論) is basically the thing of specialization UM-YANG, eventually UM-YANG are two functional characteristics in human body. It is specialized to 3UM-3YANG by spatial and time criteria. When we consider a question in its aspect, YUK-KYUNG is synthetic six classifications of human body's functional system that include(3UM-3YANG)GYUNG-RAK, related JANG-BU, distributional area of GYUNG-RAK, vicissitude of UM-YANG, more or less of GEE-HYUL(氣血), function of GAE-HAB-CHUL(開闔樞), and the like; and disease of YUK-KYUNG of SANG-HAN-RON are the very six types of disease that appeared by dint of mal function of each synthetic functional system.

Characterization of Arthrospira platensis Mutants Generated by UV-B Irradiation (자외선 조사에 의해 유도된 미세조류 Arthrospira platensis 변이주의 특성)

  • Arthrospira platensis (A. platensis) is an economically important filamentous microalgae. The isolation of mutants by chemical or physical mutagen is a clue for the strain improvement. In this study, effects of ultraviolet-B (UV-B) radiation on A. platensis were investigated. Cells (or microalgae) were exposed to UV-B (15 Watt, 254 nm) for 1, 3, 5, and 10 min, and resulting mutants were designated UM1, UM3, UM5, and UM10, respectively. Especially, the lipid content of UM5 mutant was considerably increased by 8~11 fold compared to that of wild types. Moreover, the carotenoid content and antioxidant enzyme (peroxidase and superoxide dismutase) activity were increased. It was shown that UV-induced mutants can accumulate bioactive compounds, which will be useful for the industrial production of valuable products.

  • The research which it led and it tried to observe the layout of Hwa-Um buddhist architecture by Avatamska sutra. The avatamska sutra is one of the scriptures which are important from Buddhism and Hwa-Um buddhist architecture is same channel. Sip-ji-pum that it includes the contents of avatamska sutra is most important. Hwa-um buddhist architecture can divide the major space into a three precinct. First, the gate to a Buddhist temple(A step of self interest. Second, Ru and a building for Buddhist priest(A step of Altruistic act). Third, A Buddhist sancturary(A step of Religious ascetic). From the above results, we can know that site layout of Hwa-um buddhist architecture in the Hwa-um sect relations to the dogmatic background, thought.

  • We injection molded a plate with micro surface features including micro prizms & micro channels patterns on its surface and investigated the replication of the micro features depending on the mold temperature which is one of typical process parameters. The size of the patterns were 8um, 10um, 15um of prizm features & 15um, 30um, 45um of channel features. The size of the plate is about $400mm{\times}400mm$ and the thickness is 1mm of plate. the repliction of the mucro features turned out to depend on the mold temperature and also the location on the plate. The pressure and the feature of the melt in the cavity were also measured in real-time for the investigation on the micro feature replication.

  • 최근 결정질 실리콘 태양전지 분야에서는 태양전지의 Voc와 Isc의 증가를 통한 효율 향상을 목적으로 후면 passivation에 대한 연구가 활발하게 진행되고 있다. Local-Back Contact은 최적화된 후면 passivation 박막을 이용한 태양전지 제조방법이다. 고효율 태양전지 개발을 위해 최적의 laser 가공 조건이 확립되어야 한다. 본 연구에서는 고효율의 LBC 태양전지 개발을 위해 ONO 구조의 후면 passivation 박막에 laser ablation 조건을 가변하여 LBC 태양전지를 제작하고 그 특성을 분석하였다. 본 연구에 사용된 laser는 355nm 파장을 갖는 UV laser를 사용하였다. laser 파워는 5W, 주파수는 30kHz로 하였을 때 폭 20um, 깊이 5um의 홀을 형성시킬 수 있었다. 후면 접촉 면적의 영향을 확인하기 위하여 laser ablation 간격을 300um, 500um, 700um으로 가변하여 공정을 진행하였다. 태양전지 제조 결과 spacing 300um일 경우 효율이 높게 측정되었으며, laser ablation의 데미지를 줄이기 위한 FGA 처리시 웨이퍼 표면의 데미지를 줄여 carrier lifetime 향상에 기여하는 것을 확인할 수 있었다. 본 연구의 결과를 이용하여 향후 후면 passivation 극대화 및 접촉면적 가변을 통한 고효율 LBC 태양전지 개발이 가능할 것으로 판단된다.

An Installation and Model Assessment of the UM, U.K. Earth System Model, in a Linux Cluster (U.K. 지구시스템모델 UM의 리눅스 클러스터 설치와 성능 평가)

  • The state-of-the-art Earth system model as a virtual Earth is required for studies of current and future climate change or climate crises. This complex numerical model can account for almost all human activities and natural phenomena affecting the atmosphere of Earth. The Unified Model (UM) from the United Kingdom Meteorological Office (UK Met Office) is among the best Earth system models as a scientific tool for studying the atmosphere. However, owing to the expansive numerical integration cost and substantial output size required to maintain the UM, individual research groups have had to rely only on supercomputers. The limitations of computer resources, especially the computer environment being blocked from outside network connections, reduce the efficiency and effectiveness of conducting research using the model, as well as improving the component codes. Therefore, this study has presented detailed guidance for installing a new version of the UM on high-performance parallel computers (Linux clusters) owned by individual researchers, which would help researchers to easily work with the UM. The numerical integration performance of the UM on Linux clusters was also evaluated for two different model resolutions, namely N96L85 (1.875° ×1.25° with 85 vertical levels up to 85 km) and N48L70 (3.75° ×2.5° with 70 vertical levels up to 80 km). The one-month integration times using 256 cores for the AMIP and CMIP simulations of N96L85 resolution were 169 and 205 min, respectively. The one-month integration time for an N48L70 AMIP run using 252 cores was 33 min. Simulated results on 2-m surface temperature and precipitation intensity were compared with ERA5 re-analysis data. The spatial distributions of the simulated results were qualitatively compared to those of ERA5 in terms of spatial distribution, despite the quantitative differences caused by different resolutions and atmosphere-ocean coupling. In conclusion, this study has confirmed that UM can be successfully installed and used in high-performance Linux clusters.
