Fretting, which is a special type of wear, is defined as small amplitude tangential oscillation along the contacting interface between two materials. In nuclear power plants, fretting wear caused by flow induced vibration (FIV) can make a serious problem in a U-tube bundle in steam generator. In this study, substructure method is developed and is verified the feasibility for the finite element model of fretting wear problems. This method is applied to the two-dimensional finite element analyses, which simulate the contact behavior of actual tube to support. For these examples, computing time can be reduced up to 1/5 in comparisons with conventional finite element analyses.
In this study turbine flowmeters were used to predict volumetric flow rate of each phase in two-phase, gas-liquid, flowing in a vertical tube. To determine volumetric flow rates of two-phase, air-water, flowing vertically upward through the polycarbonate tube(57mm ID-inside diameter), two turbine flow meters were used. For void fraction measurements, two gamma densitometers were used at each location of the turbine flow meter, one at the upstream and the other at the downstream. It was determined that the turbine flowmeter's outputs were a function of actual volumetric flow rate of each of the two phases. A two-phase flow model was developed.
Many nuclear power plants have experienced unscheduled shutdown due to the leakage of steam generator tubes. The leakages are normally due to the crack, possibly stress corrosion cracking (SCC) near the tube expansion at the top of tubesheet or at the tangential point of the row-1 U-bend region. The conventional eddy current technique, which makes use of a differential bobbin coil, has been found to be inadequate for the early detection of SCC. During the in-service inspection, therefore, it is a general practice that the rotating pancake coil (RPC) is used for detecting the cracks. Even in using RPC, however, it is difficult to determine the depth of the cracks quantitatively. This paper attempts to determine the detectability and sizing ability of RPC technique for axial or circumferential cracks at the tube expansion region. The simulated cracks with various dimensions were fabricated by electro-discharge machining (EDM) method. Experimental results are discussed with theoretical calculations.
Steam generator tubes (SGTs) in nuclear power plants (NPPs) are a boundary between the primary side generating heat by nuclear fission and the secondary side generating electric power by a turbine. The water inside the SGT is high temperature and high pressure. Therefore, defects and magnetic phases (MPs) are partly produced in non-magnetic SGT by high stresses and temperatures. This causes trouble regarding the safety of SGTs but it is difficult to detect the MP using the conventional eddy current technique (ECT). In particular, a circumferential defect (CD) and circumferential magnetic phase (CMP) cannot detected by ECT. Consequently, a new method is needed to detect CDs and CMPs in SGT. A new U-type yoke with two types of coils was designed and the reactance signal by the CMPs and CDs in the SGT material was simulated.
Effect of computational domain size in simulating of periodic obstacle flow has been investigated for the flow past tube banks. Reynolds number, defined by freestream velocity (U) and cylinder diameter (d), was fixed as 200, and center-to-center distance (P) as 1.5d. In-line square array was considered. Drag coefficient, lift coefficient and Strouhal number were calculated depending on domain size. Circular cylinders were implemented on a Cartesian grid system by using an immersed boundary method. Boundary condition is periodic in both streamwise and lateral directions. Previous studies in literature often use a square domain with a side length of P, which contains only one cylinder. However, this study reveals that size is improper. Especially, RMS values of flow-induced forces are most sensitive to the domain size.
Hollow prestressed concrete-filled steel tube (HCFT) piles, which combines PHC piles inside thin-wall steel tubes, were developed to increase the flexural strength of the pile with respect to the lateral load. Since P-M curves are needed for evaluating the structural safety of piles when applying HCFT piles to fields, equations for plotting P-M curves of HCFT piles in limit states were proposed. When the yield strength is applied to the steel tube and PC steel bar of HCFT piles, the proposed equations significantly underestimated the flexural strength of HCFT piles. Unlike the flexural strength test results, the proposed equations also provide greater flexural strengths for 12 mm thick steel pipe piles with the same diameter than for HCFT piles. However, when the ultimate strengths are used instead of the yield strengths for the steel tube and PC steel bar, the proposed equations provide the flexural strengths very close to the flexural strength test results.

The major objective of this study is to develop and verify the KAUSAT-5 based on the modular 3U CubeSat standard platform. In the mechanical system design of a 3U standard platform, subsystem and micro equipment functions/performance should be integrated and miniaturized on micro-sized PCBs and electrical capability was maximized to accommodate multiple payloads. KAUSAT-5 is 3U-sized Cubesat which will be operated in Low Earth Orbit(LEO), which implements mainly two scientific missions; one is to observe the Earth through infrared camera and the other is to measure space radiation with a Geiger Muller tube. An additional mission is to verify the equipment(device) such as VSCMG and fuzzy logic-based MPPT internally developed. The results of ETB, qualification and acceptance level environmental tests were shown to verify standard platform and KAUSAT-5 Cubesat.

This study is concerned with the effect on Penetration of varing the length of time among the applications of stains, preparations of medicine and radio-active isotope of siver in 120 carious or non carious human teeth with a vital pulp. The study revealed the following conclusions :
1) The stains and preparations penetrated through the dentinal tube and it's seem to be ceased at zone of secondary dentinal area.
2) The stains and preparations did not penetrated in enamel tissues.
