STRESS DISTRIBUTION OF THREE NITI ROTARY FILES UNDER BENDING AND TORSIONAL CONDITIONS USING 3-DIMENSIONAL FINITE ELEMENT ANALYSIS (세가지 니켈 티타늄 파일의 휨과 비틀림 조건에서의 응력 분포에 관한 3차원 유한요소 연구)

  • Flexibility and fracture properties determine the performance of NiTi rotary instruments. The purpose of this study was to evaluate how geometrical differences between three NiTi instruments affect the deformation and stress distributions under bending and torsional conditions using finite element analysis. Three NiTi files (ProFile .06 / #30, F3 of ProTaper and ProTaper Universal) were scanned using a Micro-CT. The obtained structural geometries were meshed with linear, eight-noded hexahedral elements. The mechanical behavior (deformation and von Mises equivalent stress) of the three endodontic instruments were analyzed under four bending and rotational conditions using ABAQUS finite element analysis software. The nonlinear mechanical behavior of the NiTi was taken into account. The U-shaped cross sectional geometry of ProFile showed the highest flexibility of the three file models. The ProTaper, which has a convex triangular cross-section, was the most stiff file model. For the same deflection, the ProTaper required more force to reach the same deflection as the other models, and needed more torque than other models for the same amount of rotation. The highest von Mises stress value was found at the groove area in the cross-section of the ProTaper Universal. Under torsion, all files showed highest stresses at their groove area. The ProFile showed highest von Mises stress value under the same torsional moment while the ProTaper Universal showed the highest value under same rotational angle.

A Morphological Study of Dental Arches in Korean Adults (한국인(韓國人) 성인(成人) 치열궁(齒列弓)의 형태학적(形態學的) 연구(硏究))

  • The measurements on the various items, such as arch form, kinds of anterior dental arch, degree of curvature in anterior dental arches, relationship between direction of the disto-incisal edge of the canine and first premolar, and kinds of posterior dental arch in upper dental arches were studied on 311 cases of the Korean adults aged from 20 to 30years. The results were as follows. 1. The commonest type of the upper dental arches was U-type (53.7%), the remaining were O-type (25.4%) and V-type (20.0%). 2. A slight curvature type (71.87%) prevailed against angulated curvature type in upper anterior dental arches. 3. The degree of curvature from $121^{\circ}$ to $160^{\circ}$ in anterior dental arches was common, and the degree of curve of 1-type with on curvature was smaller than 4, 5 type with two curvature. 4. The direction of the disto-incisal edge of canine went between the tip of the buccal cusp and the lingual incline of the buccal cusp of the first premolar in most dental arches and went lingual incline of the buccal cusp of the first premolar in U-type, from buccal cusp to lingual cusp of the first premolar in O-type and were distributed from buccal edge to central groove of the first premolar in V-type. 5. A posterior dental arch with almost straight curvature was common in 60.87%, and 4-type with a half rounded curve from first premolar to second molar was next.

The Development of Burrless Shearing System for Straightened Wire (직선화된 와이어의 버 없는 전단기 개발에 관한 연구)

  • Micro wires manufactured by the straightening process are used in the BT(Bio-Technology), IT(Information-Technology), NT(Nano-Technology). We have developed a novel wire straightener which uses the direct heating method(DHM) for straightening the micro wire and shearing device for burr-less cutting. In this study, we confirm the tendency of micro wire after the shearing process. It is impossible to remove the burr in the shearing process. However, the embodiment of minimum burr size after the shearing process is the best in-process method. In order to minimize the burr size, we have accomplished the various experiment condition such as the U-groove, the effect of the counter punch, the shear angle, clearance.

  • Chipping is an unavoidable phenomenon in the slot grinding process of hard and brittle materials. However, it should be reduced for the improvement of surface integrity in the manufacture of optical and semiconductor components. Electrolytic In-process Dressing (ELID) technique for metal bonded superabrasive grinding wheel has been developed for mirror surface grinding of hard and brittle materials. Electrically dressed wheel surface has sharply exposed abrasives and results in lower grinding force, higher grinding efficiency in grinding. The paper deals with a newly developed method for slot grinding using ELID and was implemented to improve grooved surface quality and decreases chipping size on the edge of the groove. As a result, we accomplished chipping-free grooves and obtained the clear ground surfaces on glass and WC.

  • Punching tools like an electrodes are made by milling or etching or EDM. These methods had time consuming, low efficiency and air pollution. So, we have developed a shearing device which counter punching method for burrless cutting of micro wire. Using the straightened SUS304 wire with $200{\mu}m$ diameter, we confirmed the tendency of the shear plane for punch tools. It was impossible to completely remove the bun in the shearing process. In order to minimize the burr size and fine shear plane, we have accomplished the various experiment conditions such as the U-groove, the effect of the counter punch, shear angle and clearance. The results of the experiments show that indentation, slip plane and bent shape were related to the shear angle and clearance.

  • This paper describes evaluation and monitoring methods of machining characteristics for developed micro grooving machine. Experiments were conducted under various process conditions such as spindle revolution speed, feed rates and depth of groove V and U shape of blade and STD11 were used in this experiment. The status of grooving was evaluated through analysis of the Acoustic emission (AE) signal resulted in each process condition. Based on the analysis, this paper examined the possibility of monitoring adapting fuzzy logic. In conclusion, this paper presented the possibility of monitoring in process adapting AE technology and appropriate micro grooving condition.

  • In this work, an effort is made to investigate the behavior of a chip, from its initial flow to its final breaking stage. The expression for chip flow in grooved tools is verified analytically using FEM. Cutting parameters like velocity and depth of cut have a profound influence on chip flow behavior. Chip curling increases and, for a given tool geometry, effectiveness of the groove increases with increasing depth of cut. The feasibility of tool design using FEM simulations is also demonstrated. Optimization of tool geometry results in better chip control.

  • In this study, we have investigated the micromachining of PZT to fabricate interdigitated electrodes of electro active material actuator using Nd:YAG laser We have observed groove shapes of PZT with changing beam power, scanning speed, gas, and so on to find optimum conditions of the laser processing for PZT grooves. As a result, this method has been applied to the laser micromachining for grooves in PZT surface, and we could have optimum parameters of Nd:YAG laser Finally it was shown that the laser micromachining of PZT can substitute fer bonding, etching and deposition processes in fabricating electro active material actuator embedded with interdigitated electrodes.

  • 소형 히트파이프에서 ?을 구리망사 또는 그루브를 적용할 수 있고 그루브 형상은 U, V 등 다양하다. 망사?은 모세압이 큰 잇점이 있어나 제작 단가가 높다. 그루브?은 대량생산이 용이하나 전밀 가공 기술이 요구된다. 현재까지 국내에서는 노트북 PC의 CPU 냉각에 사용한 소형 히트파이프의 전량을 해외에서 구매하고 있다. 본 연구에서는 직경 7 mm U형 그루브 관을 인발하여 관직경을 축소한 결과 내경 3.6 mm의 외경 4mm 의 V형 그루브관을 얻을 수 있었다. 이 관을 이용하여 소형 히트파이프를 제작하고 열전달 성능 시험을 수행하였다. 열전달 한계는 40~6$0^{\circ}C$ 범위작동온도 경사각 0$^{\circ}$ 에서 3 W를 얻을 수 있었다. U형 그루브 히트파이프에 비하여 모세압 저하로 인하여 낮은 값을 나타내었다. 열저항을 약 0.7~l.3 $^{\circ}C$/W 로 U형 그루브와 유사하였다.

  • In pressurized water reactors (PWRs), the reactor pressure vessel (RPV) upper head contains numerous control rod drive mechanism (CRDM) nozzles. In the last 10 years, the incidences of cracking in alloy 600 CRDM nozzles and their associated welds has increased significantly. Several axial and circumferential cracks have been found in CRDM nozzles in European PWRs and U.S. nuclear power plants. These cracks are caused by primary water stress corrosion cracking (PWSCC) and have been shown to be driven by welding residual stresses and operational stresses in the weld region. Therefore, detailed finite-element (FE) simulations for the Korea Nuclear Reactor Pressure Vessel have been conducted in order to predict the magnitudes of the weld residual stresses in the tube materials. In particular, the weld residual stress results are compared in terms for nozzle location, geometry factor$r_o$/t, geometry of fillet, and adjacent nozzle.
