The purpose of this research is to identify the relation between OFDI (Outward Foreign Direct Investment) and wage inequality. In order to analyze various effects of OFDI on wages depending on the types of workers, the research classified laborers into four categories: permanent/skilled worker, permanent/unskilled worker, temporary/skilled worker, and temporary/unskilled worker. With controlling wage-determining factors such as education, labor union, individual fixed-effect, and industry-level effect, this paper examines whether OFDI attributes to the wage inequality among each type of workers. Moreover, this study also analyzes possible effects on wages that could vary according to the different characteristics of investments by classifying OFDI into two groups: OECD and non-OECD. The results reveal that OFDI makes certain differences according to skill-intensity and contract type in terms of influences on wages. It also shows that the effect of OFDI on wages is more subject to contract type than to skill-intensity. The classification of OFDI into OECD and non-OECD proves that effects on wages can vary by characteristics of the subject of investment.
The study was carried out to compare the reaction rate of caramel type browning reaction of xylose(XY), glocose(GL), sucrose(SU), glucose+citric acid(GLCA), glucose+sodiumcitrats(GLSC), glucose+glycine(GLGC) heated at 60, 80, 100, 120 and 140$^{\circ}C$ for 24 hours, respectively. 1. The color intensity (absorbance at 490 nm) of the browning reaction mixtures tends to increase as the browning reaction time gets longer and the browning of reaction temperature gets higher. But the degree of the intensity of SU and GLCA changes very little. 2. The reaction rate constant (K) was increased rapidly above 120$^{\circ}C$ and appeared maximum at 140$^{\circ}C$, especially GLGC (140.25) was the highest. The activation energy (Ea) of sugars. XY had the highest value (124.36 J/mol), while SU the lowest(104.68 J/mol). Mixtures of GLGC was shown to have higher activation energy (144.94 J/mol) than the sugar alone and Q$\_$10/ values of GLGC were 1.68-2.85. 3. The residual amount of reactants such as xylose, glucose, sucrose, citric acid, sodium citrate and glycine in each browning mixture were decreased upon the browning reaction temperature increasing. In the GLCA, GLSC and GLGC browning mixtures, respectively, the residual amounts of glucose were less than those with amino acid, organic acid and their salt.
The reflection type photoelastic experiment can be used more effectively than the transparent type photoelastic experiment in industrial fields. However, the reflection type photoelastic experiment for orthotropic material has not been studied. Therefore, the reflection type photoelastic experimental hybrid method for the fracture mechanics of orthotropic material was developed in this research. Comparing the results obtained from this method with those from the hybrid method for isotropic material about the same isotropic specimen, the validity of this method was verified. And then, the reflection type photoelastic experiment for orthotropic material was applied to the orthotropic plates with a central crack of the various inclined angle. Using this hybrid method for the orthotropic material, it is able to obtain stress intensity factors and separate stress components at the vicinity of the crack-tip in orthotropic plates from only the isochromatic fringe patterns of isotropic coating material.
This study establishes a conceptual model to analyze heavy rainfall events in Korea using multi-functional transport satellite-1R satellite images. Three heavy rainfall episodes in two major synoptic types, such as synoptic low (SL) type and synoptic flow convergence (SC) type, are analyzed through a conceptual model procedure which proceeds on two steps: 1) conveyer belt model analysis to detect convective area, and 2) cloud top temperature analysis from black body temperature (TBB) data to distinguish convective cloud from stratiform cloud, and eventually estimate heavy rainfall area and intensity. Major synoptic patterns causing heavy rainfall are Changma, synoptic low approach, upper level low in the SL type, and upper level low, indirect effect of typhoon, convergence of tropical air in the SC type. The relationship between rainfall and TBBs in overall well resolved areas of heavy rainfall. The SC type tended to underestimate the intensity of heavy rainfall, but the analysis with the use of water vapor channel has improved the performance. The conceptual model improved a concrete utilization of images and data of satellite, as summarizing characteristics of major synoptic type causing heavy rainfall and composing an algorism to assess the area and intensity of heavy rainfall. The further assessment with various cases is required for the operational use.

In case that a general cusp-crack shaped inclusion expressed in a polynominal form of conformal mapping function exists in a two dimensional elastic body under uniform heat flow, the complex potential and thermal stress intensity factors are derived. Two thermal boundary conditions are considered, one an insulated rigid inclusion and the other a rigid inclusion with fixed boundary temperature. The previous solutions of the thermal stress intensity factors for symmetrical airfoil and lip type rigid inclusions are obtained from the general solution of the thermal stress intensity factors.

The interest in evaluation of structural intensity arises for practical reasons, because net energy flow distribution offers information of energy transmission path, positions of sources, and sinks of vibration energy. In this paper, structural intensity analysis of local ship structures using finite element method(FEM) is carried out. The purpose of this analysis is to evaluate the relative accuracy according to mesh fineness. The structural intensity of a stiffened plate varying their mesh fineness is analyzed and the results are compared with those obtained by the assumed made method. As results, the proper mesh size in qualitative/quantitative structural intensity analysis of plate structures is proposed. In addition, the propagation phenomenon of vibration energy is investigated for the L-type plate and box-girder structures.

Engineering systems are usually repairable. The reliability of a repairable system can be represented by failure intensity function. A type of shape of failure intensity function is called a failure pattern. Reliability-Centred Maintenance (RCM) presents six typical failure patterns but its definition is unclear. It is an open issue how to recognize the failure pattern of repairable systems. This paper first discusses the problems of RCM with the notion of failure pattern; then presents the method for failure pattern recognition; and finally proposes a flexible failure intensity function model. The appropriateness of the model is illustrated by a real-world example.
The turbidity of flow type samples has a nonlinear relation to brightness of laser scattered light, but the shape of images in laser scattered light is different from each turbidity samples. The turbidity measurement will be easy if it uses a pattern of images in laser scattered light. But the excessive analysis load comes from the turbidity measured by red, green, blue intensity (intensity) of all pixels of images in laser scattered light. Therefore the images in laser scattered light were divided by appropriate block to decrease excessive analysis load. The shape of divided images in laser scattered light was different from each turbidity sample. The real turbidity has a linear relation to turbidity measured by the artificial neural network learned with the intensity of divided images in laser scattered light and turbidity.
Background: Korean white pine (Pinus koraiensis) is a major commercial species, and the importance of the oak trees (Quercus spp.) is increasing due to various factors such as environmental and ecological values. However, more information is required to clearly understand the growth characteristics of these species especially regarding thinning intensity. This study was performed to provide the basic information to develop the silvicultural guideline and field manual by analyzing tree and stand characteristics in line with thinning intensity in the Korean white pine plantation and oak-dominated natural deciduous forest. Results: Diameter at breast height (DBH) and volume changes by the thinning intensity in the Korean white pine plantation were significantly different from those in the oak-dominated deciduous natural forest. In particular, DBH distribution in the pine stand appeared that there were more large diameter trees as the thinning intensity was higher. DBH periodic annual increment (PAI) of the pine stand was higher as the thinning intensity was stronger and the growth period was shorter. This trend was similarly shown in the natural deciduous forest, but the amount of PAI was smaller than in pine stand. The volume PAI after thinning was not decreased over time. In each stand type, the PAI tended to be lower as stand density was higher. The volume PAI in the pine stand was significantly higher than that in the oak-dominated natural deciduous forest. Dead trees occurred the most in the unthinned plots of each stand type, and those were higher in the natural deciduous forest. Ingrowth trees were observed only in the natural deciduous forest, and its distribution was the lowest in unthinned plots; Korean white pine as ingrowth occurred the most frequently among many tree species. Conclusions: Different effects of thinning treatment on DBH and volume PAI, mortality, and ingrowth were observed for each stand. With respect to forest growth, Korean white pine plantation was superior to the oak-dominated natural deciduous forest. The results of this study offer fundamental information for the development of silvicultural guidelines for Korean white pine plantations and oak-dominated natural deciduous forests in Korea.
Background: The aim of this study was to evaluate and compare the accuracy of diffusion-weighted imaging (DWI), apparent diffusion coefficient (ADC) value, and time-intensity curve (TIC) type analysis derived from dynamic contrast-enhanced MR imaging (DCE-MRI) in differentiating benign from malignant adnexal masses. Materials and Methods: 47 patients with 56 adnexal masses (27 malignant and 29 benign) underwent DWI and DCE-MRI examinations, prior to surgery. DWI signal intensity, mean ADC value, and TIC type were determined for all the masses. Results: High signal intensity on DWI and type 3 TIC were helpful in differentiating benign from malignant adnexal masses (p<0.001). The mean ADC value was significantly lower in malignant adnexal masses (p<0.001). An ADC value< $1.20{\times}10^{-3}mm^2/s$ may be the optimal cutoff for differentiating between benign and malignant tumors. The negative predictive value for low signal intensity on DWI, and type 1 TIC were 100%. The pairwise comparison among the receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curves showed that the area under the curve (AUC) of TIC was significantly larger than the AUCs of DWI and ADC (p<0.001 for comparison of TIC and DWI, p<0.02 for comparison of TIC and ADC value). Conclusions: DWI, ADC value and TIC type derived from DCE-MRI are all sensitive and relatively specific methods for differentiating benign from malignant adnexal masses. By comparing these functional MR techniques, TIC was found to be more accurate than DWI and ADC.
