Respondents, in the willingness to pay (WTP) survey, may have preference intensity about their stated WTP values. This study elicited a post-decisional intensity measure for each observed WTP answer for gathering information on the degree of preference intensity. In order to deal with the WTP data with preference intensity, this paper considers using the Type 3 Tobit model. This is usually estimated by the parametric two-stage estimation method assuming homoskedastic and bivariate normal error structure. However, if the assumptions are not satisfied, the estimates are inconsistent. The author has tested the hypotheses of homoskedasticity and normality, and could not accept them at the 1% level. The assumptions required to estimate the parametric Type 3 model are, therefore, too strong to be satisfied. As an alternative the parametric model, this study applies a semiparametric Type 3 Tobit model. The results show that the semiparametric model significantly outperforms the parametric model, and that more importantly, the mean WTP from the parametric model is significantly different from that from the semiparametric model.

We research ed on the noise control of a head feeding type combine harvester. It is a kind of combine harvester developed in Japan. And at present, it is used by most Japanese farmer. For a head-feeding type combine harvester it is very difficult to determine the sources of noise because it is a combination of reapers and automatic , threshers and several running parts. However we succeeded in finding out the sound sources of combine harvesters and analyzing their sound by the using sound intensity method. The sound intensity Method is a very up-to-date method to measure and analyze Sound Intensity Levels and sound directions at several measuring point sin a specified area. In this research, first a conventional sound level measurement method is used and secondly the sound intensity method. The first method shows a rather great limitation in allowed exposure duration. The second method shows pin-points the engine itself as being the main source of noise, causing sound flows a ross the operator's seat.

Objective : To determine imaging features that may separate adamantinomatous and papillary variants of craniopharyngiomas given that tumors with adamantinomatous signature features are associated with higher recurrence rates, morbidity, and mortality. We specifically reviewed calcification on CT, T1 bright signal intensity, and cystic change on T2 weighted images for differentiating these two types. Methods : We retrospectively reviewed the MRI and CT studies in 38 consecutive patients with pathologically proven craniopharyngiomas between January 2004 and February 2014 for the presence of calcification on CT scans, bright signal intensity on T1 weighted images, and cystic change on T2 weighted images. Results : Of the 38 craniopharyngiomas, 30 were adamantinomatous type and 8 were papillary type. On CT scans, calcification was present in 25 of 38 tumors. All calcified tumors were adamantinomatous type. Twenty four of 38 tumors had bright signal intensity on T1 weighted images. Of these 24 tumors, 22 (91.7%) were adamantinomatous and 2 were papillary type. Cystic change on T2 weighted images was noted in 37 of 38 tumors; only 1 tumor with papillary type did not show cystic change. Conclusion : T1 bright signal intensity and calcification on CT scans uniformly favor the adamantinomatous type over papillary type of craniopharyngioma in children. However, these findings are more variable in adults where calcification and T1 bright signal intensity occur in 70.6% and 58.8% respectively of adult adamantinomatous types of craniopharyngiomas.
The purpose of this study is to clarify the characteristic of urban heat island intensity in urban area formed at a basin. Thermal environments for basin-type cities are influenced by significant topographic relief winds. In this study, we analyzed the diurnal variations of the heat island intensity according to meteorological condition and season using AWS(Automatic Weather observation System) data in Daegu Metropolitan area for 1 year(3/April, 2003 $\sim$ 2/April, 2004). In this study, we defined the urban heat island intensity as the air temperature difference between two points, the downtown and the suburban area. The suburban area is located at valley mouth around the western tip of Daegu. The results are summarized as follows; 1. The maximum heat island intensity was recorded at early morning under the meteorological conditions, calm and clear 2. The heat island intensity was strong in the order of winter, fall, spring and summer. 3. The heat island intensity came out minus values in the afternoon. This phenomenon is known as a com mon for basin-type cities. 4. The heat island intensity was twice or more in clear and calm than not so.
This paper presents a procedure for determining the design rainfall depth and the design rainfall intensity at Incheon city area in Korea. In this study the eight probability distributions are considered to estimate the probable rainfall depths for 11 different durations. The Kolmogorov - Smirnov test and the Chi-square test are adopted to test each distribution. The probable rainfall intensity formulas are then determined by i) the least squares (LS) method, ii) the least median squares (LMS) method, iii) the reweighted least squares method based on the LMS (RLS), and iv) the constrained regression (CR) model. The Talbot, the Sherman, the Japanese, and the Unified type are considered to determine the best type for the Incheon station. The root mean squared (RMS) errors are computed to test the formulas derived by four methods. It is found that the Unified type is the most reliable and that all methods presented herein are acceptable for determining the coefficients of rainfall intensity formulas from an engineering point of view.

The steady state thermal stress intensity factors (TSIF's) are analyzed for hypocycloid, symmetric airfoil and symmetric lip type rigid inclusions embedded in infinite elastic solids, using Boganoff's complex variable approach in plane thermoplasticity. Two thermal conditions are considered, one with an uniform heat flow disturbed by an insulated rigid inclusion of cusp crack shape and the other with an uniform heat flow disturbed by a rigid inclusion of cusp crack shape with fixed boundary temperature. The tendencies of TSIF's for rigid inclusions of cusp crack shape are somewhat different from those of traction free cusp cracks. However, if k=-1, the non-dimensionalized TSIF's for rigid inclusions of cusp crack shape become those of traction free cusp cracks like the tendencies of the SIF's under mechanical loading conditions. The thermal stress and displacement components for a rigid circular inclusion of radius Ro are drived from the results of a hypocycloid crack type rigid inclusion.
This paper represents the turbulent intensity, the turbulent kinetic energy and Reynolds shear stress in the X-Y plane of cone type swirl gas burner measured by using X-probe from the hot-wire anemometer system. The experiment is carried out at flowrate 350 and $450{\ell}/min$ respectively in the test section of subsonic wind tunnel. The turbulent intensity and the turbulent kinetic energy show that the maximum value is formed in the narrow slits distributed radially on the edge of a cone type swirl burner, hence, the combustion reaction is anticipated to occur actively near this region. And the turbulent intensities ${\upsilon}\;and\;{\omega}$ are disappeared faster than the turbulent intensity u due to the inclined flow velocity ejecting from the swirl vanes of a cone type baffle plate of burner. Moreover, the Reynolds shear stress $u{\upsilon}$ is distributed about three times as large as the Reynolds shear stress $u{\omega}$ in the outer region of the cone type gas burner.
The concept of a non-contact type of UV disinfection system was introduced in this study. UV lamps and their quartz sleeves hang over the water surface and there is no interface between the sleeve and water. Obviously, there is no fouling. Based on optical laws and other UV distribution models, a detail mathematical model for a non-contact type UV disinfection system was developed in this study. Pathway length of UV light in a non-contact type photoreactor is longer than that in a submerged type photoreactor because the light is more refractive while passing through 3 interfaces of medium. But the pathway length passing through the water media is not significantly longer than that in a submerged type photoreactor so, the absorption of UV light by water is not significantly different from the other system. Due to the reflection effect, UV intensity is rapidly decreased as the horizontal distance from the light source is increased. The reflective attenuation in a non-contact type photoreactor is higher than that in a submerged type photoreactor. These mean that the short photoreactor is advantageous than the narrow-long photoreactor for the non-contact type photoreactor in an optical point of view.

A 3D model was developed to calculate the UV intensity of a submerged-type UV disinfection reactor. Numerical experiments were conducted by inputting the design factors of an open channel-type disinfection reactor and a pipe-type disinfection reactor that were installed in an actual sewage treatment plant. The following data were obtained: The average UV intensity of the installed open channel-type reactor and pipe-type reactor was 7.87 mW/cm2 and 13.09 mW/cm2, respectively; the UV dose reflecting the UV irradiation time and taking into account attenuation effects such as mixing imbalance, lamp aging, temperature, and fouling, was expected to be 21.1 mJ/cm2 and 24.8 mJ/cm2, respectively, and these values are 5 % and 24 % higher than the target UV dose of 20 mJ/cm2, respectively. By using the UV3D model, the optimal lamp position, which maximizes the average UV intensity without changing the size of the disinfection reactor or lamp output power, can be found. In this case, by only adjusting the lamp position, the average UV intensity can be increased by 0.9 % for the open channel-type and 0.5 % for the pipe-type, respectively. A better average UV intensity can be obtained by model simulation. By adjusting the horizontal and vertical ratio of the open channel-type reactor and by moving the lamp position, the average UV intensity can be increased by 7.4 % more than the present case.

Arthritis of the knee is the most common type of joint inflammatory disorder and it is associated with pain and inflammation of the joint capsule. The aim of present study was to investigate the endogenous effect of low intensity laser acupuncture on collagen-induced arthritis in rats. Forty Sprague-Dawley rats were randomly divided into normal group, arthritis group, low laser group with 10 rats in each group. Arthritis in rats was induced by subcutaneous injection of type II collagen combined with complete Freund's adjuvant. Here we investigated the effects of low intensity laser therapy in experimentally induced rat knee arthritis. To evaluate preventive and therapeutic effects of low intensity laser acupuncture on collagen-induced arthritis rats. In collagen induced arthritic rats, there was significant increase in rat paw volume and decrease in body weight increment, whereas low intensity laser therapy groups, showed significant reduction in paw volume and normal gain in body weight. The altered biochemical parameters(blood urea, serum creatinine, total proteins and acute phase proteins) in the arthritic rats were significantly brought back to near normal by the low intensity laser therapy. Therefore, low intensity laser acupuncture may be a useful treatment in the prevention and treatment of collagen-induced arthritis.
