Advanced control algorithms must be used to make wind power generation truly cost effective and reliable. In this study, we develop a new and simple control scheme that employs model predictive control (MPC), which is used in permanent magnet synchronous generators and grid-connected inverters. The proposed control law is based on two points, namely, MPC-based torque-current control loop is used for the generator-side converter to reach the maximum power point of the wind turbine, and MPC-based direct power control loop is used for the grid-side converter to satisfy the grid code and help improve system stability. Moreover, a simple prediction scheme is developed for the direct-drive wind energy conversion system (WECS) to reduce the computation burden for real-time applications. A small-scale WECS laboratory prototype is built and evaluated to verify the validity of the developed control methods. Acceptable results are obtained from the real-time implementation of the proposed MPC methods for WECS.

The present study focused on the compressibility of partially filled fluids in a sloshing tank. Filling ratios ranging from 18% to 26% were used to find compressible impact on a vertical wall. The model test was for 1/25 scale of a 138 K LNGC cargo tank. To investigate the two dimensional phenomenon of sloshing, a longitudinal slice model was tested. A high speed camera was used to capture the flow field, as well as the air pocket deformation. The pressure time history synchronized with the video images revealed the entire compressible process. Three typical impact phenomena were observed: hydraulic jump, flip through, and plunging breaker. In particular, the pressure time history and flow pattern details for flip through and plunging breaker are presented.

This study investigates the roles of decomposition methods on high accuracy in daily rainfall prediction from light gradient boosting machine (LightGBM) algorithm. Here, empirical mode decomposition (EMD) and singular spectrum analysis (SSA) methods were considered to decompose and reconstruct input time series into trend terms, fluctuating terms, and noise components. The decomposed time series from EMD and SSA methods were used as input data for LightGBM algorithm in two hybrid models, including empirical mode-based light gradient boosting machine (EMDGBM) and singular spectrum analysis-based light gradient boosting machine (SSAGBM), respectively. A total of four parameters (i.e., temperature, humidity, wind speed, and rainfall) at a daily scale from 2003 to 2017 is used as input data for daily rainfall prediction. As results from statistical performance indicators, it indicates that the SSAGBM model shows a better performance than the EMDGBM model and the original LightGBM algorithm with no decomposition methods. It represents that the accuracy of LightGBM algorithm in rainfall prediction was improved with the SSA method when using multivariate dataset.
The purposes of this study were to(a) develop theoretical modifications of the extended gate control theory of pain using Fishbein's model and(b) test the efficacy of these modifications. Attitude, social subjective norm, personal subjective norm, habit and state anxiety were operationalized to represent internal stimuli for the cognitive-evaluative and motivational-affective dimensions of the theory. Pain expression was operationalized as sensory and affective responses to pain, and pain endurance. Sixty-two female nurses from 20 to 50 years of age participated. A semantic differential scale measured attitude and motivations to comply; a Likerty-type scale measured personal and social norms and habit. Spielberger's STAI measured state anxiety, Pain was produced using a modified submaximum effort tourniquet technique. Pair expression was measured using ratio scales of sensory intensity and unpleasantness developed by Gracely and his associates. Pain endurance was measured by subtracting time of pain threshold from pain tolerance. The first hypothesis examining whether pain endurance would be more significantly related to the affective response than to the sensory response was net rejected. Four remaining hypotheses, testing the ability of the five variables to predict the sensory and affective responses were not rejected. However, the habit of pain expression and the attitude toward pain expression contributed to the prediction of both sensory and affective responses to pain. The interaction between the cognitive-evaluative and the sensory-discriminative dimensions and the interaction between the cognitive-evaluative and motivational-affective dimensions were partially supported by the data from these two variables. The interaction between the motivational-affective and the sensory-discriminative dimensions was also supported by the relationship of sensory to affective responses. The variables which did not significantly predict pain expression appeared to have potential for prediction. Revision and testing of the tools for better reliability, validity, and clinical usuability are needed. The study contributed to theory building. The identification of variables which pre-dict pain behavior must occur before effective nursing interventions can be developed.
The state of the art of the 2-stage swirl calciner is to make 2-stage counter gas flow in a calciner with cooler hot air. Gas flow in the calciner increases retention time of raw mix particles. Simple structure of the 2-stage swirl calciner operated optimally the rotary cement kiln. In this study, in order to decide the entrance type of the cooler air of the optimal calciner model, an entrance cooler air velocity, the input points of raw mix were analyzed in many aspects with cold model experiment and computational fluidized dynamic simulation. It was found that the entrance type of cooler air fully splite 2-stage for the optimal condition of the cold model calciner. The operation conditions were that the input feeding, the cooler air velocity and the air velocity of throat were 0.33kg/$\textrm m$3$, 15m/s and 20m/s respectively. The performance of 150 t/d the pilot plant connected with the kiln rising duct was that volume capacity of the calciner is over 430 kg/$\textrm m$3$-h, decarbonation rate of raw mix apparently 90%, heat consumption 950 kcal/kg-cli and retention time of raw mix 2.4 sec. Its the best operating condition is cooler air velocity 18m/s, the gas velocity of throat 25m/s, feeding rate of raw mix 10t/h. The operating experience of the pilot plant confirmed the success of scale up for over 3000 t-cli/d.

A "two-fluid" model using thermal eddy diffusivity concept and Lumley's drag reduction theory, is proposed to analyze heat transfer of the turbulent dilute gas-particle flow in a vertical pipe with constant wall heat flux. The thermal eddy diffusivity is derived to be a function of the ratio of the heat capacity-density products .rho. over bar $C_{p}$ of the gaseous phase and the particulate phase and also of the ratio of thermal relaxation time scale to that of turbulence. The Lumley's theory dictates the variation of the viscous sublayer thickness depending on the particle loading ratio Z and the relative particle size $d_{p}$/D. At low loading ratio, the size of viscous sublayer thickness is important for suspension heat transfer, while at higher loading, the effect of the ratio .rho. $_{p}$ over bar $C_{p}$$_{p}$/ .rho. $_{f}$ over bar $C_{p}$$_{f}$ is dominant. The major cause of decrease in the suspension Nusselt number at lower loading ratio is found to be due to the increase of the viscous sublayer thickness caused by the suppression of turbulence near the wall by the presence of solid particles. Predicted Nusselt numbers using the present model are in satisfactory agreements with available experimental data both in pipe entrance and the fully developed regions.
Hydrologists have tried to develop monthly runoff simulation models which are important factor in wafer resources planning. One of the models called Kajiyama formu]a is widely used for monthly runoff simulation in Korea. In recent work by Xiong and Guo (1999), they suggested Two-parameter monthly water balance model to simulate the runoff and showed that the model can be used for the water resources planning program and the climate impact studies. However, they estimated two parameters of transformation of time scale, c and of the field capacity, SC by the trial and error method. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to suggest the estimation methodologies of c and SC, and compare Kajiyama formula with a Two-parameter monthly water balance model to simulate the runoff in Han river and IHP representative basins in Korea. The c is estimated by using the relationship of actual and potential evaporations, and SC is estimated from association with CN. We show that the estimated c and SC can be used as the initial or optimal values in the model.
The rapid development of small-scale (1-10 MJ) Superconducting Magnetic Energy Storage Systems (SMES) can be explained by real perspective of practical implementation of these devices in electro power nets. However the serious problem of all high mechanically stressed superconducting coils-problem of training and degradation (decreasing) of operating current still exists. Moreover for SMES systems this problems is more dangerous because of pulsed origin of mechanical stresses-one of the major sources of local heat disturbances in superconducting coils. We investigated acoustic emission (AE) phenomenon on model and 0.5 MJ SMES coils taking into account close correlation of AE and local heat disturbances. Two-coils 0.5 MJ SMES system was developed, manufactured and tested at Russian Research Center in the frames of cooperation with Korean Electrical Engineering Company (KEPCO) [1]. The two-coil SMES operates with the stored energy transmitted between coils in the course of a single cycle with 2 seconds energy transfer time. Maximum operating current 1.55 kA corresponds to 0.5 MF in each coil. The Nb-Ti-based conductor was designed and used for SMES manufacturing. It represents transposed cable made of Nb-Ti strands in copper matrix, several cooper strands and several stainless steel strands. The coils are wound onto fiberglass cylindrical bobbins. To make AE event information more useful a real time instrumentation system was used. Two main measured and computer processed AE parameters were considered: the energy of AE events (E) and the accumulated energy of AE events (E ). Influence of current value in 0.5 MJ coils on E and E was studied. The sensors were installed onto the bobbin and the external surface of magnets. Three levels of initial current were examined: 600A, 1000A, 2450 A. An extraordinary strong dependence of the current level on E and E was observed. The specific features of AE from model coils, operated in sinusoidal vibration current changing mode were investigated. Three current frequency modes were examined: 0.012 Hz, 0.03 Hz and 0.12 Hz. In all modes maximum amplitude 1200 A was realized.

For several years, graduate students and faculty of the Engineering Systems Research Center at U.C., Berkeley have been studying new methods of planning and scheduling in a computer integrated manufacturing environment, with particular emphasis on large scale integrated circuit fabrication. One part of this work, focusing on short interval scheduling, uses simulation models as a primary research tool. We have built two versions of the same basic model (programmed in C) to study two different problems (one deals with machine down time and the other with setup times). These have proven to be efficient for studying particular problems, but are difficult and time consuming to modify. We are convinced that our research will be more effective: (1) if it were easier to build special purpose models tailored to the research question at hand; and (2) if we had better interfaces to graphics output. Commercially available factory simulators are inadequate for this research for a variety of reasons. Existing packages such as SIMKIT, SLAM, SIMAN and EXCELL have their own weaknesses. Typically, they are hard to develop and to modify. They do not allow for adding new dispatching decisions or release decision. Also, it is hard to add more machines to existing environment or change the route the product flows. For these various reasons, we had developed a new simulation package having flexibility and modularity. In this paper, based on experiences gained in the application of object oriented programming, we discuss unique features of the simulator developed in OOPS and ways to take advantage of features in developing and using manufacturing simulation software written in the OOPS

Because of the importance of the information, encryption algorithms are heavily used. Raw data is encrypted and secure, but problems arise when the key for decryption is exposed. In particular, large-scale Internet sites such as Facebook and Amazon suffer serious damage when user data is exposed. Recently, research into a new fourth-generation encryption technology that can protect user-related data without the use of a key required for encryption is attracting attention. Also, data clustering technology using encryption is attracting attention. In this paper, we try to reduce key exposure by using homomorphic encryption. In addition, we want to maintain privacy through similarity measurement. Additionally, holistic similarity measurements are time-consuming and expensive as the data size and scope increases. Therefore, Min-Hash has been studied to efficiently estimate the similarity between two signatures Methods of measuring similarity that have been studied in the past are time-consuming and expensive as the size and area of data increases. However, Min-Hash allowed us to efficiently infer the similarity between the two sets. Min-Hash is widely used for anti-plagiarism, graph and image analysis, and genetic analysis. Therefore, this paper reports privacy using homomorphic encryption and presents a model for efficient similarity measurement using Min-Hash.
