One of the effective means to transfer the heat into and from the energy storage medium is thermosyphon. In this study, a two-phase closed thermosyphon with circular fins was used to extract the thermal energy stored in paraffin wax (Sunoco p-116). Heat transfer characteristics along the heat flow path were investigated as well as the overall performance. Some of the important results are as follows: (1) The temperature distribution of the wax in the radial direction was always maintained fairly uniformly; (2) Compared with bare thermosyphon, the heat transfer rate was vastly improved in the early stage of the experiment; and (3) Heat transfer coefficient between the wax and evaporating section of thermosyphon remained nearly constant during the experiment.
The OGS model is configured and used for simulation of the LASGIT project. The modeling conditions and the simulation results from the previous work by Walsh and Calder (2009) are analyzed to see if the simulation configuration is done correctly and to apply for the LASGIT project. Except for the unrealistic modeling conditions used previously, the simulation results successfully demonstrated helium propagation that is typical for the two-phase flow. The results indicated that the relations of capillary pressure and the relative permeability against water saturation used previously should be updated. An elaborated simulation with more realistic parameters should be used to improve the weak points of preliminary work.
This experimental study was conducted to figure out the characteristics of convective heat transfer non boiling vertical downward flow with polymer additives. This experiment was studied in diameter, 800mm heating length and $1{\times}10^5 W/m^2$ heat flux. The polymer concentration ranged 0ppm to 500ppm with corresponding from superficial liquid velocity 1.25m/s to 2.5m/s in non bo vertical up and downward flow. Experimental results show that the characteristics of convective transfer was a strong function of polymer concentration and it has decreased with increasing polymer concentration in non boiling up and vertical downward flow.

COBRA-TF is a two fluid, three field subchannel code. Three fields are continuous vapor, continuous liquid and droplet. Some assessments are conducted to validate the related models and to estimate a code ability through dryout and post-CHF experiment in a tube and DNB test in rod bundles. It turned out form dryout and post-CHF experiment that the predicted dryout locations and wall temperature profiles are in close agreement with the experiments. On the other hand, DNB prediction of COBRA-TF are performed for two kinds of rod bundles along with EPRI CHF correlation. To estimate its performance COBRA-IV of homogeneous model is also run for the same data. The results say that COBRA-TF/EPRI is better in DNB prediction than COBRA-IV/EPRI. In addition the thermal-hydraulic behaviors due to the different two-phase flow models are presented at the condition of CHF.

An experimental investigation was conducted to study two-phase flow distribution in a T-type distributor of slit fin-and-tube heat exchanger using R22. A comparison was made between the predictions by previously proposed tube-by-tube method and experimental data for the heat transfer rate of evaporator. Experiments were carried out under the conditions of saturation temperature of 5$^{\circ}C$ and mass flow rate varying from 0.6 to 1.2kg/min. The inlet air has dry bulb temperature of 27$^{\circ}C$, relative humidity of 50% and air velocity varying from 0.63 to 1.71㎧. Experiment show that air velocity increased by 85.2% is need for T-type distributor with four outlet branches than that of two outlet branches under the superheat of 5$^{\circ}C$, which resulted in air-side pressure drop increase of 130% for T-type distributor with four outlet branches as compared to two outlet branches.

This study is focused on the experimental analysis of the noise induced by phase change of refrigerant at the entrance of capillary tube. The refrigerant is usually two-phase condition when it flowed into the capillary tube. At the entrance of capillary tube, the phase condition of refrigerant is formed by sub-cool control. If it has sufficient sub-cool temperature, all of the vapor refrigerants turned to liquid, which means there is only liquid. Otherwise, the gas is coexisted. Based on this theory, we experiment on each case by changing sub-cool temperature using refrigerant-supplying equipment. The noise level is measured for each case and compared.
This study examines the influence of geometry on the internal flow and macroscopic behavior of the spray in Diesel nozzles. For this investigation, two bi-orifice nozzles were employed: one cylindrical and one conical. The first step is to use a non-destructive characterization method which is based on the production of silicone moulds so that the precise internal geometry of the two nozzles can be measured. At this stage the nozzles have been characterized dimensionally and therefore the internal flow can be studied using CFD calculations. The results gained from this experiment make it possible also to ascertain the critical cavitation conditions. Once the critical cavitation conditions have been identified, the macroscopic parameters of the spray can be studied in both cavitating and non-cavitating conditions using a test rig pressurized with nitrogen and with the help of a image acquisition system and image processing software. Consequently, research can be carried out to determine the influence that cavitation has on macroscopic spray behavior. From the point of view of the spray macroscopic behavior, the main conclusion of the paper is that cavitation leads to an increment of the spray cone angle. On the other hand, from the point of view of the internal flow, the hole outlet velocity increases when cavitation appears. This phenomenon can be explained by the reduction in the cross section of the liquid phase in the outlet section of the hole.

A two-phase closed thermosyphon is applied to an ice storage system. The thermosyphon is used to freeze the water in a storage tank. The experiment has been performed to investigate the effects of the important parameters such as the quantity of the fluid filled with, the ratio of the length of the evaporator to the condenser, and the temperature and the mass flow rate of the brine. It is found that the higher thermal performance of the thermosyphon is obtained as the ratio of the length of the evaporator section to that of the condenser section is decreased and the temperature of the brine is lowered. The increase of the quantity of the working fluid also favors the performance of the system. The experimental data can be utilized for the basic design of ice storage systems with thermosyphons.
In this study, the characteristics of gas-water relative permeability curves in a single fractured-plate according to the various aperture size were analyzed by using the Hele-Shaw type glass plate model. The plate was made of glasses for the observation of the two-phase flow pattern, and seven cases were set up based on the aperture size in the range of field scale from 30 to $120\mum$. The experiment was conducted by steady-state method, and the water saturation was determined more accurately by the developed digital image process technique. The empirical equations of relative permeability to gas and water for single fractured-plate were correlated by using the aperture size which directly affects the two-phase flow pattern and critical saturation.

Cooling the electronic equipment is one of the major focal points of the design process and the key to successful product launch. The two-phase loop thermosyphone which is a good candidate among many available options was investigated fur cooling of the high power amplifiers. The system is composed of evaporator which contains 6 parallel cold plates, fan cooled condenser, gas-liquid separator, and interconnecting tubes. Experiments were performed for several refrigerant charging values, hs and as a experiment result, the optimum charging value fur this system was proposed. In order to optimize the system design, the operating cycle pressure and inlet/outlet temperatures of evaporator and condenser are measured and analyzed. The effect of the three parameters such as flow rate and temperature of condenser cooling air, and thermal load on the evaporator are investigated. The lower the operating pressure and the cycle temperatures are also better to prevent the leakage of the system. The system invesigated in this paper can be directly used for cooling of a real unmanned wireless communication station.
