  • A novel two-dimensional cadmium(II)-nickel(II) bimetallic host clathrate, $[Cd{NH_2CH_2CH_2OH}_2Ni(CN)_4]{\cdot}3C_6H_5NH_2{\cdot}H_2O$, 1, has been synthesized and structurally characterized by X-ray single crystallographic method. The clathrate 1 crystallizes in the monoclinic system, space group $P2_1/c$ with a = 14.370(3), b = 7.728(1), c = 28.172(4) ${\AA}$, ${\beta}=97.58(1)^{\circ}$, V = 3101.1(9) ${\AA}^3$, Z = 4. The host framework of the clathrate 1 is built of the cyanide bridges between octahedral Cd(II) atom and square planar Ni(II) atom. The octahedral Cd atoms ligated by two 2-aminoethanol molecules and four cyanide ligands bridged with square planar Ni atoms. The Ni atoms bridges to four Cd atoms via cyanides is made up of puckered quadrangles of composition $\{CdNi(CN)_2\}_2$, all edges are shared. This cyanide bridges form an infinite two-dimensional host networks stacking along b axis. 2-Aminoethanol ligands bond to Cd atom through N atom as a monodentate ligand in the axial position and four cyanides take an equatorial plane with all in trans-configurations. The aniline guest molecules and water molecules are located in between the host layer sheets, respectively.

  • In this study the three-dimensional nonlinear finite element method was used to analyze the stresses distribution in the adhesive layer used to joint two Aluminum 2024-T3 adherends. We consider in this study the effect of different parameters witch directly affect the values of different stresses. The experimental design method is used to investigate the effects of geometrical parameters of the single lap joint in order to achieve an optimization of the assembly with simple lap joint. As a result, it can be said that both the geometrical modifications of the adhesive and adherends edge have presented a significant effect at the overlap edge thereby causing a decrease in peel and shear stresses. In addition, an analytical model is also given to predict in a simple but effective way the joint strength and its dependence on the geometrical parameters. This approach can help the designers to improve the quality and the durability of the structural adhesive joints.

  • Two-dimensional Delayed Detached Eddy Simulation (DDES) was carried out to investigate the uniform flow over a twin-box bridge deck (TBBD) with various gap ratios of L/C=5.1%, 12.8%, 25.6%, 38.5%, 73.3% and 108.2% (L: the gap-width between two girders, C: the chord length of a single girder) at Reynolds number, Re=4×104. The aerodynamic coefficients of the prototype deck with gap ratio of 73.3% obtained from the present simulation were compared with the previous experimental and numerical data for different attack angles to validate the present numerical method. Particular attention is devoted to the fluctuating pressure distribution and forces, shear layer reattachment position, wake velocity and flow pattern in order to understand the effects of gap ratio on dynamic flow interaction with the twin-box bridge deck. The flow structure is sensitive to the gap, thus a change in L/C thus leads to single-side shedding regime at L/C≤25.6%, and co-shedding regime at L/C≥35.8% distinguished by drastic changes in flow structure and vortex shedding. The gap-ratio-dependent Strouhal number gradually increases from 0.12 to 0.27, though the domain frequencies of vortices shedding from two girders are identical. The mean and fluctuating pressure distributions is significantly influenced by the flow pattern, and thus the fluctuating lift force on two girders increases or decreases with increasing of L/C in the single-side shedding and co-shedding regime, respectively. In addition, the flow mechanisms for the variation in aerodynamic performance with respect to gap ratios are discussed in detail.

  • The two-dimensional modeling of the non-stationary thermal state and voltage responsivity of the sensitive elements usually used in solid-state pyroelectric focal plane arrays are presented. Temperature distributions under periodical thermal excitation and the response of the thermal imaging device, which is composed of the pyroelectric sensitive elements mounted on a single silicon substrate, are numerically calculated. The sensitive element consists of a covering metal layer, infrared polymer absorber, front metal contact, sensitive pyroelectric element, the interconnecting column and the bulk silicon readout. The results of the numerical modeling show that the thermal crosstalk between sensitive elements to be critical especially at low frequency (f < 10Hz) of periodically modulated light. It is also shown that the use of our models gives the possibility to improve the design, operating regimes and sensitivity of the device.

  • Graphene, consisting of a single layer of carbon in a two-dimensional lattice, has been emerging as a fascinating material with many unique physical, chemical and mechanical properties. In this study, graphenes were prepared by a chemical method. To develop high performance polymer nanocomposites reinforced by graphenes, adequate dispersion of the fillers and strong interfacial bonding between the fillers and the polymer matrix are essential. The purpose of this study was to examine the influence of introducing amine groups on the surfaces of graphenes. FT-IR spectroscopy, SEM were used to confirm the functionalization. Epoxy nanocomposites comprising the graphenes were prepared and their characteristics were investigated by DSC, DMA and TMA. Fracture surfaces of the nanocomposites were investigated by SEM. The functionalized graphenes induced strong interfacial bonding than the pristine graphenes and resulted in considerable improvements in the performance of the nanocomposites.

  • Processes in an iron ore sintering bed can characterized as a relatively uniform progress of fuel, cokes combustion and complicated physical change of solid particles. The sintering bed was modelled as an unsteady one-dimensional progress of the fuel layer, containing two phases: solid and gas. Coke added to the raw mix, of which the amount is about 3.5% of the total weight, was assumed to form a single particle with other components. Numerical simulations of the condition in the iron ore sintering bed were performed for various parameters: moisture contents, cokes contents and air suction rates, along with the various particle diameters of the solid for sensitivity analysis. Calculation results showed that the influence of these parameters on the bed condition should be carefully evaluated, in order to achieve self-sustaining combustion without high temperature section. The model should be extended to consider the bed structural change and multiple solid phase, which could treat the inerts and fuel particles separately.

  • Two-dimensional numerical simulations are conducted at a low Reynolds number Re = 100 to investigate the near wake of three identical circular cylinders that are arranged in an equilateral triangular configuration. The incident angle of the three-cylinder configuration with respect to incoming flow is varied from θ = 0° to 60°, while the spacing between adjacent cylinders (L) covers a wide range of L/D = 1.25-7.0, where D is diameter of the cylinder. Typical flow structures in the near wake of the three-cylinder configuration are identified, including a single Karman vortex street, bistable flip-flopping near wake, anti-phase and/or in-phase vortex shedding, shear layer reattachment, and vortex impingement, depending on the configuration (L/D, θ). The behavior of Strouhal number (St) is discussed in detail, echoing the distinct structures of near wake. Furthermore, fluid forces on the individual cylinders are examined, which, though highly depending on (L/D, θ), exhibit a close correlation to the near wake behavior.

  • Sintering bed of iron ore in the steel making process is one of typical applications of solid fuel bed, which has relatively uniform progress of fuel and simple processes of combustion. The sintering bed was modelled as an unsteady one-dimensional progress of fuel layer containing the two phases of solid and gas. Cokes added to the raw mix of which the amount is about 3.5% of the total weight was assumed to form a single particle with other components. In the early predition results presented in this paper, the flame propagation within the bed was not sustained after the top surface of the bed was ignited with hot gas. It suggests that the model should be extended to consider the multiple solid phase, which can treat the ore particles and the coke particles separately.

  • Two-dimensional turbulent flows past a square cylinder and cavity noise are simulated by the finite difference lattice Boltzmann method with subgrid turbulence model. The method, based on the standard Smagorinsky subgrid model and a single-time relaxation lattice Boltzmann method, incorporates the advantages of FDLBM for handling arbitrary boundaries. The results are compared with those by the experiments carried out by Noda & Nakayama and Lyn et al. Numerical results agree with the experimental ones. Besides, 2D computation of the cavity noise generated by flow over a cavity at a Mach number of 0.1 and a Reynolds number based on cavity depth of 5000 is calculated. The computation result is well presented a understanding of the physical phenomenon of tonal noise occurred primarily by well-jet shear layer and vortex shedding and an aeroacoustic feedback loop.
