A new cyclone system for the vacuum cleaner to collect dusts has been studied experimentally and numerically to meet the constant suction power, hygienic exhaust and a reduction of maintenance cost. The cyclone system of the vacuum cleaner consists of twin cyclones for improving dust collection efficiency. The first. cyclone catches large dust particles and the second one having two separated flows to decrease pressure drop collects small dust particles. The optimal design factors such as dust collection efficiency, pressure drop, and cut-size are investigated from the experimental results by the Taguchi method. Cyclone cleaner systems designed in this study has a good Performance taking into account the dust collection efficiency of 93% and the cut-size of $1.6{\mu}m$ in mass median diameter at the flow rate of 1 CMM. The cyclone vacuum cleaner showed the potential to be an effective method to collect dusts generated in the household.
In this paper, a technique of simultaneously measuring the velocity and the temperature in micro-scale flow is proposed. This method uses particle tracking velocimetry (PTV) for measuring the velocity and laser induced fluorescence (LIF) for measuring the temperature. To measure the accurate velocity and temperature, images for PTV and for LIF are separated by using two light sources and a shutter which is synchronized with a camera. By using only one camera, measurement system can be simplified and the error from complicate optical system can be minimized. Error analyses regarding the concentrations of fluorescent dye and particle and the light source fluctuation are also conducted. It is found that the error of the temperature and the velocity highly depends on the concentration of fluorescent particles which are used for PTV. This technique is applied to the simultaneous measurement of the velocity and the temperature in the electrokinetic flow. It is found that the velocity and temperature vary with the electric field strength and the concentration of electrolyte.

A triboelectrostatic separation system using a fluidized bed tribocharger for the removal of PVC material in the mixture of PVC/PS plastics is designed and evaluated as a function of electric field strength, air flow rate, and the mixing ratio of two-component mixed plastics. It consists of a fluidized-bed tribocharger, a separation chamber, a collection chamber and a controller. PVC and PS particles can be imparted negative and positive surface charges, respectively, due to the difference in the work function values of plastics suspended in the fluidized-bed tribocharger, and can be separated by passing them through an external electric field. Experimental results show that separation efficiency is strongly dependent on the electric Deld strength and particle mixing ratio. In the optimum conditions of 150 Ipm air flow rate and 2.6 kV/cm electric field strength a highly concentrated PVC (99.1%) can be recovered with a yield of more than 99.2% from the mixture of PVC and PS materials for a single stage of processing.

Thermoplastic elastomer gels, which has molecular networks composed of a microphase-separated multiblock copolymer swollen to a large extent by a low volatility mid-block selective solvent such as white oil have various applications. In this particular study, the effect of several network-forming nanoscale fillers such as two different graphite particles and carbon nanotube on the properties of TPE gels prepared from a microphaseordered poly[styrene-b-(ethylene-co-butylene)-b-styrene] (SEBS) triblock copolymer with an EB compatible white oil was studied. The linear viscoelastic behavior, sol-gel transition, x-ray diffraction and mechanical properties were discussed. The properties of thermoplastic elastomer gels hybrid with graphite prepared by mixing Poly(styrene-b-ethylene-co-butylene)-b-styrene) with paraffin oil and different amount of expandable graphite were found to increase the mechanical properties at only lower graphite concentration but tends to decrease when paraffin oil/SEBS ratio is lower. The gelation temperature is the same for all TPE gels with different amounts of graphite. Both storage (G') modulus loss (G") modulus of TPE gels slightly increase with addition of graphite.
In this study, the silica-based hybrid material with high barrier property was prepared by incorporating ethylene-vinyl alcohol (EVOH) copolymer, which has been utilized as packaging materials due to its superior gas permeation resistance, during sol-gel process. In preparation of this EVOH/$SiO_2$ hybrid coating materials, the (3-glycidoxy-propyl)-trimethoxysilane (GPTMS) as a silane coupling agent was employed to promote interfacial adhesion between organic and inorganic phases. As confirmed from FT-IR analysis, the physical interaction between two phases was improved due to the increased hydrogen bonding, resulting in homogeneous microstructure with dispersion of nano-sized silica particles. However, depending on the range of content of added silane coupling agent (GPTMS), micro-phase separated microstructure in the hybrid could be observed due to insufficient interfacial attraction or possibility of polymerization reaction of epoxide ring in GPTMS. The oxygen barrier property of the mono-layer coated BOPP (biaxially oriented polypropylene) film was examined for the hybrids containing various GPTMS contents. Consequently, it is revealed that GPTMS should be used in an optimum level of content to produce the high barrier EVOH/$SiO_2$ hybrid material with an improved optical transparency and homogeneous phase morphology.
To quantitatively estimate the effect of yellow sand(loess) fromt he Northern China, various soil sources having similar chemical compositions to yellow sands should be separated and identified. After that, mass contribution for yellow sand can be calculated. The study showed that it was impossible to solve this problem by the traditional bulk analyses. However, particle-by-particle analysis by a CCSEM (computer controlled scanning electron microscope) gave enormous potentials to solve it. To perform this study, seven soil source data analyzed by CCSEM were obtained from Texas, U.S.A. Initially, each soil date was classified into two groups, coarse and fine particle groups since the particle number distribution showed a minimum occurring at 5.2$\mu$m of aerodynamic diameter. Particles in each group were then classified into one of the 283 homogeneous particle classes by the universal classification rule which had been built by an expert system in the early study. Further, mass fractions and their uncertainties for each class in each source were calculated by the Jackknife method, and then source profile matrix for the 7 soil sources was created. To use the profile matrix in the study of source contribution, it is necessary to test the degree of collinearity among sources. The profiles were tested by the singular value decomposition method. As a result, each soil source characterized by artificially created variables was totally independent each other and is ready to use in source contribution studies as a receptor model.
The number concentrations, the mass concentrations and the elemental concentrations of $PM_{10}$ have measured at Gosan site in Jeju, Korea, from March 2010 to December 2010. And the correlation and the factor analysis for the number, the mass and the elemental concentrations of $PM_{10}$ are performed to identify their relationships and sources. The average $PM_{10}$ number concentration is observed $246\;particles/cm^3$($35.7{\sim}1,017\;particles/cm^3$) and the average $PM_{10}$ mass concentration is shown $50.1{\mu}g/m^3$($16.7{\sim}441.4{\mu}g/m^3$) during this experimental period. The number concentrations are significantly decreased with increasing particle size, hence the concentrations for the smaller particles less than $2.5{\mu}m$($PM_{2.5}$) are contributed 99.6% to the total $PM_{10}$ number concentrations. The highest concentration of the 20 elements in $PM_{10}$ determined in this study is shown by S with a mean value of $1,497ng/m^3$ and the lowest concentration of them is found by Cd with a mean value of $0.57ng/m^3$. The elements in $PM_{10}$ are evidently classified into two group based on their concentrations: In group 1, including S>Na>Al>Fe>Ca>Mg>K, the elemental mean concentrations are higher than several hundred $ng/m^3$, on the other hand, the concentrations are lower than several ten $ng/m^3$ in group 2, including Zn>Mn>Ni>Ti>Cr>Co>Cu>Mo>Sr>Ba>V>Cd. The size-separated number concentrations are shown positively correlated with the mass concentrations in overall size ranges, although their correlation coefficients, which are monotonously increased or decreased with size range, are not high. The concentrations of the elements in group 1 are shown highly correlated with the mass concentrations, but the concentrations in group 2 are shown hardly correlated with the mass concentrations. The elements originated from natural sources have been predominantly related to the mass concentrations while the elements from anthropogenic sources have mainly affected on the number concentrations of $PM_{10}$.
