  • Sophisticated modern research tools for evaluation of medicinal plants are available but microscopic methods are one of the simplest and cheapest methods to establish the identity of the source materials. Pharmacognostical investigation of the dried, powdered and anatomical sections of the fruits of Trachyspermum roxburghianum (DC) Craib was carried out to determine its macro and microscopical characteristics along with its physical constants. Externally, the fruits, yellowish or greenish brown in colour are elongated, elliptical, slightly curved, prominently ridged and longitudinal. As seen in transectional views of the fruits from Trachyspermum roxburghianum, the mericarp has concave sides called commissural surfaces and a convex outer side called the dorsal surface. The mericarp has three primary ridges alternating with two secondary ridges on the dorsal side. On the commissural side, there are two primary ridges which are lateral in position and two secondary ridges in the commissural side. The seed is attached to the pericarp by a short stalk called a raphe. Circular, four-lobed calcium oxalate crystals are fairly abundant in the endosperm. Phytochemical studies revealed the presence of phenolic compounds, triterpenoids, proteins and sugars. The pharmacognostical profile of the fruits will assist in standardization for quality, purity and sample identification.

  • This exploratory research was intended to develop and test a slacks pattern based upon conic model. Data came from measurements of photograph of three subjects. Silhouette of slacks was close fit on waist and hip and loose under hip level. This three-dimensional form was modeled with truncated cones. This conic model was truncated by plane of the waist level, the abdomen level, the hip level, the crotch level and the ankle level parallel to the floor. Two models that have differences in back part of the model were tested. Drafted patterns from two models were taken for each subject. Drafted experimental pattern was operated for slacks pattern. The first step was to make sideseam. Parts over crotch level were moved to both sides. And then to make waistdarts. Experimental pattern had two darts each in front and back. Each experimental slacks was evaluated by sensory test to appearance and comfort by five judges. The results can be summarized as follows. 1) Appearance and comfort of experimental pattern were judged to be satisfactory. Especially these patterns were fitted we18 in waist darts front and back. So we evaluated that was proper pattern for slacks. 2) Model 2 was better in appearance than model 1. But Model 1 was more comfortable in non significant difference. This was supposed to be resulted from fit more closely of model 2. 3) considering preceding results, this geometric model based upon truncated cone was applicable for slacks pattern.

  • Stiffness of the posterior deltoid is as a causative factor in the limited range of glenohumeral horizontal adduction and various other shoulder pathologies including shoulder impingement syndrome, frozen shoulder, and humerus anterior glide syndrome. The purpose of this study was to compare the effects of two techniques (soft tissue massage and cross-body stretch) on increasing the range of horizontal adduction. Thirty-two subjects with a $10^{\circ}$ or greater difference between the right and left sides in horizontal adduction were selected. Sixteen subjects from each group were allocated randomly. Interventions were applied on six occasions for 2 weeks, and the range of horizontal adduction was measured using an inclinometer at pre-and post-intervention. A $2{\times}2$ analysis of variance (intervention${\times}$time) was used to compare the effects of the two techniques. In the soft tissue massage group, the angle of horizontal adduction significantly increased compared with the cross-body stretch group. These findings indicate that the soft tissue massage of the posterior deltoid muscle is a more effective method to increase the flexibility of the glenohumeral horizontal adduction.

  • The modularized subunit of an electronic power transformer (EPT) is a series connection of two H-bridge voltage-source converters and a DC-DC converter with a high-frequency isolation transformer (HFIT). On the basis of cascading and paralleling the modularized subunits, EPT can be used in high-voltage and large-current applications in the power system. This paper discusses the steady state analysis of the modularized subunit of EPT. Theoretical analysis considers the influences of the two H-bridge voltage-source converters on the two sides of the DC-DC converter. We deduce the formulas of the theoretical calculation on the internal electrical characteristics of EPT (e.g., the voltages of the DC-bus capacitor and the primary side peak current of the HFIT). This paper provides guidance on the design and selection of EPT key elements (e.g., the DC-bus capacitors and HFIT). Experimental results are obtained from a single subunit of a laboratory model rated at 962 V, 15 kVA. All calculations, simulations, and experiments confirm the theoretical analysis of the subunit of EPT.

  • In this paper, the design and characteristics of a novel ultrasonic motor are investigated. Such a motor is appropriate far use in the optical zoom or auto focusing functions of the lens system in mobile phones. Its design and simulation of performances are carried out by FEM commercial software (ATILA). The shape of the motor is similar to a square without one side, on which an optical lens can be mounted. Two sheets of piezoelectric ceramics are adhered to both sides of two legs of the elastic body, respectively To drive the ultrasonic motor, the voltage is applied to two sheets of piezoelectric ceramics bonded to one leg. The rotation direction can be easily changed by switching the piezoelectric sheets bonded to the other leg, to which voltage is applied. A proto type of the motor is fabricated and its outer size is $10^*10^*2[mm3]$ including the camera lens of which the diameter is 7.5(mm). Its power consumption is about 0.3[W] and the speed of rotation is adjustable from 10 to 200[rpm] according to the applied voltage

  • The Heian Period(794-1192) was the period when luxury and elegance flourished. Gorgeous colors were adopted for the costumes and an el-egant assortment of colors prevailed. Representatiove of such costumes is kasane-no-irome. The world Kasane-no-irome originally came from two colors on both sides of one of the japanese kimonos called Uchiki. In later times it turned to indicate the combination ef-fect of colors of several Uchiki's worn in layers one over the other. This paper describes in de-tail the kasane-no-irome in both meanings. In so doing I distinguish two different kinds of kasane-no-irome using a Chinese character for the formed and for the latter though both are pronounced Kasane in the Japanese language. Part one of this paper which concerns the color combinations of presents typical 148 samples through reproduced dyeing clothes by Matumoto. Part two describes the color com-bination of which was so called Junihitoe. It presents typical 41 samples from reproduced dyeing clothes by Matumoto. The purpose of this study was to investigate the characteristics of color distribution and the structure of color combination in Kasane-no-irome. Therefore we obtained the following results in Kasane-no-irome. 1. The color combination of Kasane-no-irome came from the natural color harmony there-fore the names of kasane-no-irome which adopt the names of flowers and leaves of the foure seasons. Accordingly the seasons for wearing them are fixed. 2. In the hue the most frequent appearance was green. And in the tone the most frequent apperance was moderate. 3. In the color combination the most fre-quent type were monochromatic combination and contrast combination.

  • The aim of the present study is to investigate the flow interference between two adjacent undulating fish-like body, and its effect on the undulating propulsion. For this purpose, unsteady two dimensional incompressible flow calculations were conducted using an unstructured mesh flow solver, coupled with an overset mesh technique. To deal with mesh deformation due to fish locomotion, spring analogy is utilized. The fish body used in the simulation is constructed from the NACA0012 airfoil. The study indicates that the propulsion of undulating fish is proportional to frequency and wavelength of the midline oscillation when there is no adjacent fish. It also reveals that average thrust was increased when the vortex shedding from the tail was conserved well and pressure difference between upper and lower sides of the fish was magnified due to flow interference. From this study, which relative position and phase difference of locomotion between two fishes can generate maximum thrust was known among six different cases.

  • Background: The purpose of this prospective randomized single-blind clinical trial was to evaluate the effect of tilting the head on the anesthetic efficacy of inferior alveolar nerve block (IANB) in patients with symptomatic irreversible pulpitis. Methods: Ninety-two patients were divided into two groups: the first group received IANB and the head was tilted in the direction of the block for 15 min, whereas the second group received IANB and the head was tilted to the opposite side. Access cavity preparation was initiated after 15 min. Success was defined as no pain or faint/weak/mild pain during endodontic access preparation and instrumentation. The anesthetic success rates were analyzed by Pearson chi-square test at 5% significance levels. Results: The same side position and opposite side position yielded 41% and 30% anesthetic success rates, respectively; there was no significant difference between the two sides. Conclusions: Relative head position has no effect on the anesthetic success rate of IANB.

  • This paper is a continuation of a recent development on the Hermite-based divergence-free element method and deals with a non-isothermal fluid flow driven by the buoyancy force in a square cavity with temperature difference across the two sides. Two Hermite functions are considered for numerical computations in this paper. One is a cubic function and the other is a quartic function. The degrees-of-freedom of the cubic Hermite function are stream function and its first and second derivatives for the velocity field, and temperature and its first derivatives for the temperature field. The degrees-of-freedom of the quartic Hermite function include two second derivatives and one cross derivative of the stream function in addition to the degrees-of-freedom of the cubic stream function. This paper presents a brief review on the Hermite based divergence-free basis functions and its finite element formulations for the buoyancy driven flow. The present algorithm does not employ any upwinding or a stabilization term. However, numerical values and contour graphs for major flow variables showed good agreements with those by De Vahl Davis[6].

  • Bacteriophytochromes are phytochrome-like light-sensing photoreceptors that use biliverdin as a chromophore. To study the biochemical properties of the Deinococcus radiodurans bacteriophytochrome (DrBphP) protein, two anti-DrBphP mouse monoclonal antibodies (2B8 and 3H7) were generated. Their specific epitopes were identified in our previous report. We present here fine epitope mapping of these two antibodies by using truncation and substitution of original epitope sequences in order to identify minimized epitope peptides. The previously reported original epitope sequences for 2B8 and 3H7 were truncated from both sides. Our analysis showed that the minimal peptide sequence lengths for 2B8 and 3H7 antibodies were nine amino acids (RDPLPFFPP) and six amino acids (PGEIEE), respectively. We further characterized these peptides in order to investigate their reactivity after single deletion and single substitution of the original peptides. We found that single-substituted 2B8 epitope (RDPLPAFPP) and dual-substituted 3H7 epitope (PGEIAD) showed significantly increased reactivity. These two antibodies with high reactivity for the short modified peptide sequences are valueble for developing new peptide tags for protein research.
