쌍로울형 박판연속주조공정의 개발과 자동화에 관한 연구 (The Study on Automation and Development of Strip Continuous Casting by Twin Roller Type)

  • In this study, the characteristics of cooling and rolling during strip casting process is obtained in comparison with the experimental and analytical results. The prupose of this study is to effectively analyze the thermal and mechanical deformation of roller applying the results of the heat transfer and the pressure distribution to boundary conditions. And then the relation between strip thickness and roll deformation is shown. The second purpose is to obtain the proper condition of the continuous casting for stainless steel. The summary and conclusions can be made on the basis of the results obtained by the theories and experiments. a) The strip casting condition for the fine surface quality of tin-alloy as-cast material was obtained in accordance with the velocity of roll rotation and initial roll gap. b) The experimental condition that the dimension of the cast strip thickness coincide with that of the initial roll gap was according to the experimental result of continuous casting by twin-roll type. c) The thermoelastic finite element model to calculate the roll deformation is represented. Thermoelastic model prediction for the roll deformation are in good agreement with the experimental results considering the thermal expansion of the roll. d) The higher cooling rates were obtained by a twin-roller quenching technique. Also quenched microstructure of the rapidly solidified shell was verified. e) The magnitude of roll deformation due to the thermal expansion and roll separating force is quantit- atively represented in the analysis of continuous casting for stainless steel.

  • This paper presents a numerical analysis on the solidification characteristics in twin-roll strip casting. Unstructured fixed-grid system was employed to deal with phase change. Melting of pure gallium was analyzed to confirm the validity of present program in both structured and unstructured grid systems. An algorithm for simultaneous calculation of the temperature in the roll and the molten metal pool was developed. The flow field in the pool and heat transfer features between pool and roll were shown. The effect of process parameters was also studied. Since the geometry of the molten metal Pool significantly deforms along the casting direction, unstructured grid system is more efficient. The unstructured grid system gives almost the same accuracy, even though the number of grids is only 60% of the structure done.

  • In this paper, analysis of temperature and stress distributions in the roll for a twin roll continuous casting process was carried out. Firstly, several state equations were set up to determine the temperature distribution in the roll using finite difference method. Secondly, thermal stress in the roll was calculated numerically. Also, stress distribution due to the roll pressure was calculated to determine the effect of the roll pressure. For analysis of temperature distributions and the stress states of the roll, there are three kinds of roll materials, 2ICrMoV5. 11, CuCo/NiBe, CuCrZr and three types of cooling system were used.

  • Changes in microstructure and mechanical properties of Mg-1.0Al-1.0Zn-0.2Mn-0.5Ca (AZMX1100) alloy sheet manufactured by normal casting and twin roll casting process, were studied according to process and heat treatment. Non-uniform microstructure was observed in the initial sheet produced through both processes, and in particular, tilted dendrites and shifted central segregation were observed in the twin roll casting sheet. It was homogenized through hot rolling and heat treatment, and heat treated at 350℃ and 400℃ to compare the effect of heat treatment temperature. Both sheets were homogenized by the hot rolling process, and the grain size increased as the heat treatment temperature and time increased. It was confirmed that the grain size, deviation, and distribution of the second phase were finer and more homogenized in the TRC sheet. Accordingly, mechanical properties such as hardness, formability, and tensile strength also showed better values. However, unlike other previously reported AZMX alloy systems, it showed low formability (Erichsen value), which was judged by the influence of Al2Ca present in the microstructure.

  • In this paper the modeling and control of a twin roll strip caster is investigated. Mathematical models for the strip casting process are obtained by analyzing five critical areas such that the molten steel level in the pool, solidification process, roll separating force and torque, roll dynamics including hydraulic actuators, and roll drive system. A two-level control strategy is proposed. At lower level, three local subsystems are independently feedback-controlled by suitable local controllers which perform well to the behaviors of each subsystem. They are a variable structure control of the molten steel level in the pool, an adaptive predictive control of the roll gap which is directly related to the strip thickness, and an $H^{\infty}$ control of the roll drive system. At higher level, all reference signals to the lower level subsystems are generated by an optimal controller in the perspective of regulating the strip thickness and roll separating force.   • Rolling force in the direct rolling(or twin-roll strip continuous casting) process fo semi-solid material has been computed using rigid-viscoplastic finite element method. Temperature distributions for calculations of rolling force and roll deformation are obtained from thermofluid analysis. Three dimensional roll deformation analysis has also been performed by using commercial package ANSYS. From the results, behavior of metal flow, rolling force and roll deformation have been investigated according to the process conditions of semi-solid direct rolling.

  • 본 논문에서는 쌍롤 박판주조(Twin Roll Casting, TRC)법을 이용하여 AA4343 합금을 제작하였다. 주조시 롤 간격을 조절하여 냉각속도를 달리하였으며 인고트 주조(Ingot Casting, IC)법을 이용하여 제조된 합금과의 미세조직학적 차이와 이에 따른 물성 변화를 고찰하였다. TRC 및 IC로 제조된 합금을 냉간압연하였으며 압연 건전성을 평가하였다. 한편, 냉각속도별로 상이한 미세조직을 구현할 수 있는 스텝몰드(Step Mold Casting, SMC)법을 이용하여 제조된 합금의 냉각속도에 따른 미세조직 및 경도 차이를 조사하여 상대 비교하였다. 냉각속도가 빠를수록 주조 셀조직의 크기 및 공정 Si 입자의 크기가 감소하였으며 이로 인하여 경도가 증가되는 효과를 나타내었다. 주조시 생성된 공정 Si 입자의 크기는 압연에 의하여 그 크기의 변화가 거의 없었으며 열분석 결과 액상선 온도의 변화가 일부 발생하나 큰 차이가 없었다.

  • The suitability of twin roll strip casting for Ag-27.5%Cu-20.5%Zn-2.5%Mn-0.5%Ni brazing alloy (known as HS-49D) was examined in the present work and the mechanical properties and microstructure of the strip were also investigated. The effect of annealing heat treatment on the properties was also studied. The new manufacturing process has applications in the production of the brazing alloy. XRD and microstructural analyses of the Ag-27.5%Cu-20.5%Zn-2.5%Mn-0.5%Ni strip revealed a eutectic microstructure of an Ag-rich matrix (FCC) and a Cu-rich phase (FCC) regardless of heat treatment. The results of mechanical tests showed tensile strength of 434 MPa and 80% elongation for the twin roll casted strip. Tensile results showed decreasing strengths and increasing elongation with annealing heat treatment. Microstructural evolution and fractography were also investigated and related to the mechanical properties.

폭방향 두께제어를 고려한 용탕직접 압연로울의 최적형상 설계기법 (Optimum Shape Design Techniques on Direct Roller of Molten Metal Considering Thickness Control of Width Direction)

  • The rolling force and roll deformation behavior in the twin roll type strip continuous casting process has been computed to estimate the thermal charcteristics of a caster roll. To calculation of rolling force, the relationship between flow stress and strain for a roll material and casting alloy are assumed as a function of strain-rate and temperature because mechanical properties of a casting materials depends on tempera- ture. The three dimensional thermal dlastic-plastic analysis of a cooling roll has also been carried out to obtain a roll stress and plastic strain distributions with the commercial finite element analysis package of ANSYS. Temperature fields data of caster roll which are provided by authors were used to estimated of roll deformation. Roll life considering thermal cycle is calculated by using thermal elastic-plastic analysis results. Roll life is proposed as a terms of a roll revolution in the caster roll with and without fine failure model on the roll surface. To obtain of plastic strain distributions of caster roll, thermomechan- ical properties of roll sleeve with a copper alloy is obtained by uniaxial tensile test for variation of temperature.

  • We report on the feasibility of producing 6xxx series Al alloy sheets using a combination of twin-roll strip casting and asymmetric rolling. The Al alloy sheets produced in this study exhibited an excellent formability ($\bar{r}=1.2$, ${\Delta}r=0.17$) and mechanical properties (${\sigma}_{TS}{\sim}260MPa$, ${\varepsilon}>30%$), which cannot be feasibly obtained via the conventional technique based on ingot casting and conventional rolling. The enhanced formability as evaluated in terms of $\bar{r}$ and ${\Delta}r$ was clarified by examining the evolution of textures associated with strip casting and subsequent thermo-mechanical treatments. The evaluation of the formability leads us to conclude that the combined technique based on strip casting and asymmetric rolling is a feasible process for enhancing the formability of Al alloy sheets to a level beyond which the conventional technique can reach.
