In this study, experimental and numerical analyses are carried out to investigate the performance of centrifugal pump with various air admitting conditions. Experiments on the pump performance under air-water two-phase flow are accomplished using a centrifugal pump with semi-open type impeller having three, five and seven blades, respectively. Also, the numerical analysis of turbulent air-water two-phase flow using the finite volume method has been carried out to obtain the pressure, velocities and void fraction on the basis of a so-called bubbly flow model with the constant size and shape of cavity. The results obtained through this study show the reasonable agreements within the range of bubbly flow regime. There are promising developments concerning application of the present study for the flow in a centrifugal pump with two-phase flow conditions and efforts must be followed to improve the turbulence model and two-phase flow model for turbomachinery.
Experimental heat transfer data for single-phase water flow in the annuli with corrugated inner tubes are presented. In the annuli with parallel flow, ten different annular arrangements are considered. For water flow rate in 1,700${\gamma}$$\^$*/). As P/e becomes closer to 8 in the range below the radius ratio (${\gamma}$$\^$*/) of 0.5, Nusselt numbers increase. However, Nusselt numbers decrease in the range above the radius ratio (${\gamma}$$\^$*/) of 0.5 because flow reattachment position becomes farther in the narrower clearance.

An analytical model to calculate rate of vapor generation due to heterogeneous wall nucleation in flashing flow is developed. In the present model, an important parameter of the vapor generation term, i.e. nucleation site density is calculated by integrating its probability distribution function with respect to active cavity radius. The limits of integration are minimum and maximum active cavity radii, and these are formulated using an active cavity model for nucleate boiling. This formulation, therefore. can statistically account for the effect of surface specific thermo-physical and geometric conditions on the vapor generation rate and flashing inception. For verifying the adequacy of the present model, steady state two-fluid and the bubble transport equations are solved with applicable constitutive equations. The applicable region of the bubble transport equation is also extended to churn-turbulent flow regime to predict interfacial area concentration at high void fraction. Predicted results in terms of axial pressure and void fraction profiles along the channels are compared with experimental data of Super Moby Dick and BNL Reasonable agreements have been achieved and this shows the applicability of the present model to flashing flow analysis.

An experimental result for heat transfer of pulsating turbulent pipe flow was presented under the condition of fully developed dynamic regime and uniform wall heat flux. Experiments were performed at following conditions ; Inlet time-averaged Reynolds number varied from 5000 to 11000; The peak pressure fluctuation were 1.3, 2.3 and 3.5 percent of the mean pressure; Pulsating frequency ranged from 53 Hz to 320 Hz The measurements showed that the effect of pulsation on local heat transfer is greater at downstream, in which pulsating source exists, than upstream and the heat transfer rate, averaged over the pipe length, was higher or lower than in an equivalent non-pulsating flow according to the pulsating conditions. In addition, the significant change of heat transfer rate was observed in acoustically resonant conditions, when the pulsating frequency of the flow corresponded to the pipe natural frequency.

RANS computational analysis was performed on the head of the launch vehicle including the hammerhead nose pairing in the supersonic regime. The two-dimensional axisymmetric analysis was performed by using laminar, fully turbulent and transition models and compared with the experimental data. It was observed that different flow phenomena occurred depending on the Reynolds number. Under the high Reynolds number condition, the boundary layer becomes turbulent, which is not separated from the surface of the launch vehicle. With the low Reynolds number condition, laminar separation bubble was produced due to the separation and reattachment of the boundary layer on the expansion-compression edge of the hammerhead type nose fairing. The three-dimensional computations with the angle of attack showed a fully detached vortical structure due to the laminar separation bubble. It is proved that the turbulent transition should be considered to predict the separation bubble with the Reynolds number.
The inspiratory flow rate of a human is changed with the amount of the workload. The flow characteristic is affected by the inspiratory flow rate. In the flow field of airway, the both of turbulence intensity and secondary flow affect the deposition pattern of particles which is important for the drug-aerosol targeting. Thus the analysis of the flow characteristic in a human airway is important. The purpose of this study is to investigate the effects of the inspiratory flow rate on the flow characteristics in a human airway. The tubular airway is consistent with the oral cavity, pharynx, larynx and trachea. The relatively inspiratory flow rate is used at each case of human states regarding the workload. By the effect of geometric airway changes, transition to turbulent airflow after the larynx can occur with relaminarization further downstream. The low Reynolds number k-${\omega}$ turbulence model is used for analysis with flow regime. As the inspiratory flow rate is larger, the turbulence kinetic energy and secondary flow intensity increase in airway. On the other hand, the area of recirculation zone is smaller.

Printed circuit heat exchangers (PCHEs) are widely used with an increasing demand for industrial applications. PCHEs are capable of operating at high temperatures and pressure. We consider a PCHE as a candidate intermediate heat exchanger type for a high temperature gas-cooled reactor (HTGR). For conventional application using stainless steels, design and manufacturing of PCHEs are well established. For applications to HTGR, knowledge of longitudinal conduction and deformation of channel is required to estimate design margin. This paper analyzes the effects of longitudinal conduction and deformation of channel on thermal performance using a code internally developed for design and analysis of PCHEs. The code has a capability of two dimensional simulations. Longitudinal conduction is estimated using the code. In HTGR operating condition, about ten percent of design margin is required to compensate thermal performance. The cross-sectional images of PCHE channels are obtained using an optical microscope. The images are processed with computer image process technique. We quantify the deformation of channel with dimensional parameters. It is found that the deformation has negative effect on structural integrity. The deformation enhances thermal performance when the shape of channel is straight in laminar flow regime. It reduces thermal performance in cases of a zigzag channel and turbulent flow regime.
In this study, heat transfer and Pressure drop characteristics for R-718 in the plate and shell heat exchanger (P&SHE) investigated experimentally. The plates are circular and welded into a stack which fits into a cylindrical shell in P&SHE. Although apparently very different from rectangular the compact brazed plate heat exchanger (CBE), the underlying flow passage structure through the P&SHE is the same as in the CBE. The R-718 between plate side and shell side was performed a counterflow heat exchange. Heat transfer characteristic of R-718 were measured for turbulent flow in P&SHE by using wilson plot technique. Heat transfer experiment Ivas performed in the $200{\leq}Re{\leq}500$ regime and Pressure drop experiment was performed in the $150{\leq}Re{\leq}1600$ regime. The purpose of this study is to investigate heat transfer and friction factor correlations for R-718 in P&SHE and to offer fundamental data for experiment
Numerical simulations are conducted to analyze conjugate heat transfer characteristics in a ribbed channel. In this simulation, the effects of Reynolds number and heat capacity of the solid channel wall on convective heat transfer are observed in the turbulent flow regime. In the case of the conducting wall against isothermal wall, the relative ratio of the thermal resistance between the solid wall and the flow field varies with Reynolds number. Thus the characteristics of the conjugate heat transfer are changed with the Reynolds number. Heat capacity ratio affects the temperature fluctuation inside solid wall. The temperature fluctuation inside the solid wall decreases with increasing the heat capacity of the solid wall so that the convective heat transfer increases. When the thermal conductivity ratio is smaller than 10, the effects of flow characteristics on heat transfer are changed.
The variations of gas hold-up, overall volumetric oxygen mass transfer coefficients and liquid circulation velocity in an internal loop reactor were investigated to manifest scale-up effect. The relationship between superficial gas velocity and gas hold-up were found as Ugr = 0.045 $\varepsilon$r in the pilot-scale and Ugr = 0.056 $\varepsilon$r in the bench-scale reactor. The overall volumetric oxygen mass tractsfer coefficient, KLa was slightly increased in the pilot-scale than in the bench-scale reactor. Flow regime was changed from the bubble flow to the churn-turbulent flow when the superficial gas velocity reached to 3.5 - 4 cm/sec in the pilot-scale.
