The objective of this study is to obtain the instability characteristics of the plane jet impinging on circular cylinder associated with the cylinder-tone. It is found that the characteristics depends upon he ratio of the cylinder diameter to the nozzle width, D/h, and the jet velocity. When the ratio is oderate the cylinder-tone is similar to the edge-tone. With increase of the ratio, its characteristics ecomes similar to that of the plate-tone in which only the high-speed tone associated with turbulent et is generated. When D/h 〈1. the frequency range, especially the lower limit of frequency, is ignificantly influenced by the cylinder diameter. At around D/h = 1/2, while low speed tones are nduced with the antisymmetric mode of instability and affected by the vortex shedding from the ylinder, high-speed tones are generated, at first, with the symmetric mode of instability. and then, ith antisymmetric mode, as the jet velocity increases.

A modified energy method for the fretting wear of the steam generator tube is proposed to calculate the wear-out depth between the nuclear steam generator tube and its support. Estimation of fretting-wear damage typically requires a non-linear dynamic analysis with the information of the gap velocity and the flow density around the tube. This analysis is very complex and time consuming. The basic concept of the energy method is that the volume wear rate due to the fretting-wear phenomena Is related to work rate which is time rate of the product of normal contact force and sliding distance. The wearing motion is due to dynamic interaction between vibrating tube and its support structure, such as tube support plate and anti-vibration bar. It can be assumed that the absorbed work rate would come from turbulent flow energy around the vibrating tube. This study also numerically obtains the wear-out depth with various wear topologies. A new dissection method is applied to the multi-span tubes to represent the vibrational mode. It turns out that both the secondary side density and the normal gap velocity are important parameters for the fretting-wear phenomena of the steam generator tube.

Nuclear fuels are always exposed to hot temperature and high speed coolant flow during the reactor operation. Thus the fuel rod accompanies small amplitude vibration due to the turbulent flow. The random vibration causes friction between the fuel rod and the grid structure which provides the lateral supports. The friction is critical to the fuel rod fretting wear, and it degrades fuel performance when a severe wear is developed. LuGre friction model is introduced in the paper, and the performance was evaluated comparing to the classical Coulomb model. It is shown that the developed friction force considering the Coulomb friction is not enough to stop or delay the motion while the stick-slip can be simulated using LuGre friction model. Numerical solutions of the two dimensional spacer grid cell model with the modern friction are also reviewed, and it is discussed that the new friction model simulates well the nonlinear mechanism.

Since the fuel is always exposed to turbulent flow, the grid strap shows flow induced vibration characteristics that impact on the nuclear fuel soundness. The dynamic behavior of grids in nuclear fuels is quite complex, since two pairs of spring and dimple support are contacted with rods by friction in the limited space. This paper focuses on investigation of the grid strap(test fuel strap, TFS) vibration in one cell. TFS consists of a single spring and double dimples. To identify the grid strap vibration, modal analysis of the strap is performed using finite element method(FEM). Modal testing on a $5{\times}5$ grid structure without rods is performed. The modal testing results are compared to analytic results. In addition, random test considering rod effect is performed about a $5{\times}5$ grid with rods under real contact condition in the air. Finally, the strap vibration of a $5{\times}5$ fuel bundle in investigation of flow induced vibration(INFINIT) facility is measured in real fluid velocity condition without heating. It is shown that modal frequencies from the test are almost equal to those peak frequencies in the INFINIT test.
Researches in the area of aeroacoustics have been conducted by two methods. In the first method theoretical formula or experimentation are utilized, and in the second method flow field analysis and acoustic analogy are utilized. In contrast to the first method, the second method does not need new experiments for every individual change of flow configurations and conditions, and it can predict their effects by the flow field analysis, which makes the second method preferred than the first one. In this paper numerical analysis to predict noise generated by a turbulent flow about a two dimensional circular cylinder by use of CAA (Computational Aeroacoustics) method is conducted and the results are compared to the available experimental data.

Flow-Induced Vibration of steam generator tubes may result in fretting wear damage at the tube-to-support locations. KSNP(Korean Standard Nuclear Power plant) steam generators experienced fretting wear in the upper part of U-bend above the central cavity region of steam generators. This region has conditions susceptible to the flow-induced vibration, such as high flow velocity, high void fraction, and longer unsupported span. To improve its performance, APR1400 steam generator is designed with additional supports in this region to reduce unsupported span and to reduce peak velocity in the central cavity region. In this paper, we examined its performance improvement using ATHOS code. The thermal-hydraulic condition in the region of secondary side of APR1400 steam generator is obtained using the ATHOS3 code. The effective mass for modal analysis is calculated using the void fraction, enthalpy, and operating pressure information from ATHOS3 code result. With the effective mass distribution along the tube, natural frequency and mode shape is obtained using ANSYS code. Finally, stability ratios and real mean squared displacements for selected tubes of the APR1400 steam generator are computed. From these results, the current design of the APR1400 steam generator are examined.

Vibration isolation technology using an air spring and laminated rubber bearing is widely used because it has excellent vibration isolation characteristics. In the part of that, we usually make use of the self-damped air suing. It is occupied two chambers, restrictor, diaphragm and load plate. Two chambers contain compressed air and the volume of chambers and the area of load plate give a definition of stiffness and load. The restrictor and the volume ratio of two chambers give a definition of damping ratio. The conventional model of restrictor is made of one orifice and it causes turbulent flow in the orifice at the region of large deflection. The stillness of air suing is larger and the damping is lower in the region of large deflection. In the multi-orifice case, the stiffness is similar to air spring with one orifice but damping ratio is larger than conventional air spring. And damping ratio is smaller than conventional air suing in small deflection region. Deflection is small in the region of high frequency so small damping is better than large damping. As a result, we can reduce the storage stiffness of air suing in the wide region of deflection and increase the damping ratio in the region of large deflection. After this, we will try to and the relation of Reynolds Number and Flow Resistance then we are going to make another restrictor for air spring to improve damping ratio and stiffness.

When the vehicle is traveling, the deformation caused by friction continued with the ground is made to occur because the tire is the composite material of a viscoelastic. Part of the deformation energy is converted into heat energy as Hysteresis and temperature inside the tire rises. The generated heat is shed to the outside through the convection and evangelism. Increase in the internal temperature of the tire is difficult to ensure the safety of vehicle by damage to the tire during driving. Recently, Even when the tire is damaged, it is designed to be possible to driving in case of run-flat tires but the fact is that the development of the technology for the synergistic effect of heat release inside the tire by the side reinforcement is necessary. In this study, by using the Finite Element Method (FEM), applying the cooling fins to the tire sidewall, it is intended to check the temperature distribution along the shape of the cooling fins and the temperature reduction effect.

In this study, flow-induced vibration(FIV) analyses have been conducted for a 3D compressor blade model. Advanced computational analysis system based on computational fluid dynamics(CFD) and computational structural dynamics(CSD) has been developed in order to investigate detailed dynamic responses of designed compressor blades. Fluid domains are modeled using the computational grid system with local grid deforming and remeshing techniques. Reynolds-averaged Navier-Stokes equations with $\kappa-\epsilon$ turbulence model are solved for unsteady flow problems of the rotating compressor model. A fully implicit time marching scheme based on the Newmark direct integration method is used for computing the coupled aeroelastic governing equations of the 3D compressor blade for fluid-structure interaction(FSI) problems. Detailed dynamic responses and instantaneous pressure contours on the blade surfaces considering flow-separation effects are presented to show the multi-physical phenomenon of the rotating compressor blade.

Intense acoustic load is generated when a launch vehicle lifts off, causing the damaging vibrations at the launch vehicle or satellite within the fairing. This paper is concerned with the prediction of lift-off acoustic loads for a launch vehicle. As a test example, the lift-off acoustic load on the Korean launch vehicle, NARO, is predicted by the existing calculation tool, the modified Eldred's second method. Although the acoustic sources, assumed as point sources, are to be located along the center line of the exhaust plume when using the Eldred's prediction method, the exact location of the deflected center line of exhaust gas flow is not usually known. To search for the most appropriate source positions, six models of source line distribution are suggested and the acoustic load prediction results from these models are compared with the actual measurements. It is found that the predicted sound pressure spectrum of the Naro is the most similar to the measured data when the centerline of the turbulent kinetic energy contour is used as the source line.
