The latest research has shown that the turbulence-induced noise is important in total characteristics of flow noise. Also, turbulence-induced noise have a significant influence for performance of sonar dome. In this paper, Flow analysis is performed on vicinity of the sonar dome model using Large Eddy Simulation method. Also, direct method that extracts perturbational sound pressure, FW-H method without turbulence-induced noise and permeable FW-H method that is able to calculate turbulence- induced noise were compared in order to show turbulence effect.

In order to predict trailing edge noise from a flat plate more effectively and accurately, the prediction algorithm based on semi-analytic model for point pressure spectrum is proposed. The semi-analytic model consists of empirical models for point pressure spectra and theoretical model to determine the boundary layer characteristics needed for the empirical models. The proposed methods are applied to predict the trailing edge noise of the flat plate located in the mean flow of speed 38 m/s, for which the measured data are available. In present study, six empirical models for point pressure spectra are utilized for the predictions of trailing edge noise and their prediction results are compared to the measured data. Through the analysis of these comparisons, it is revealed that the present method based on non-frozen formula using Efimtsov model and Smol'yakov-Tkachenko model can provide more accurate and efficient predictions of trailing edge noise.

The objective of the present work is to develop a time-domain numerical method of broadband noise in a cascade of airfoils. This paper focuses on dipole broadband noise sources, resulting from the interaction of turbulent inflows with the flat-plate airfoil cascade. The turbulence response of a two-dimensional cascade is studied by solving both of the linearised and full nonlinear Euler equations employing accurate higher order spatial differencing, time stepping techniques and non-reflecting inflow/outflow boundary condition. The time-domain result using the linearised Euler equations shows good agreement with the analytical solution using the modified LINSUB code. Through the comparison of the nonlinear time-domain result using the full nonlinear Euler equations with the linear, it is found that the acoustic mode amplitude of the nonlinear response is less than that of the linear response due to the energy cascade from low frequency components to the high frequency ones. Considering the merits of the time-domain methods over the typical time-linearised frequency-domain analysis, the current method is expected to be promising tools for analyzing the effects of the airfoil shapes, non-uniform background flow, linear-nonliear regimes on the broadband noise due to gust-cascade interaction.

As ships become faster, larger and are required to meet higher standards, the importance of flow noise is highlighted. However, unlike in the aeroacoustics field for airplanes and trains (where flow noise is considered in design), acoustics are not considered in the marine field. In this study, analysis procedures for hull-induced flow noise are established to investigate the flow noise characteristics of a wave-piercing hull form that can negate the effect of wave-breaking. The principal mechanisms behind hull-induced flow noise are fluid-structure interactions between complex flows underneath the turbulent boundary layer and the hull. Noise induced by the turbulent boundary layer was calculated using wall pressure fluctuation and energy flow analysis methods. The results obtained show that noise characteristics can be distinguished by frequency range and hull region. Also, the low-frequency range is affected by hull forms such that it is correlated with ship speed.
When a vortex diffracts upon encountering a vortex, many strong and weak waves are produced in the course of interaction. They are the cause of shock wave attenuation and noise production. This phenomenon is fundamental to understanding the more complex supersonic turbulent Jet noise. In this paper we have reviewed the research on shock-vortex interaction we have carried on last seven years. We have computationally investigated the parameter effect. When a shock is strong, shock diffraction pattern becomes complex since the slip lines from the triple points on Mach stem curl into the vortex, causing an entropy layer. When the vortex is unstable, vortexlets are brought about each of which make shock diffraction of a reduced intensity. Strong vortex produces quadrupole noise as it impinges into a vortex. Elementary interaction models such as shock splitting, shock reflection, and shock penetration are presented based on shock tube experiment. These models are also verified by computational approach. They easily explain production and propagation of the aforementioned quadrupole noise, Diverging acoustics are explained in terms of shock-vortexlet interactions for which a computational model Is constructed.

In order to satisfy customer's requirements of ride comfort and high performance, it is necessary for designers to fully understand vehicle aerodynamics and wind noise of newly produced cars because characteristics of flow and wind noise are heavily dependent on each other. In this study numerical and experimental study have been carried out to analyse the effect of flow characteristics at around of rear view mirror on wind noise and soiling on the front S/W. As a result, it's found that the spiral flow mear the front pillar is weakened and spreaded because rear view mirror obstructs the flow. It is also shown that there is abrupt change of gradient of separa- tion line, separation area, intensity of spiral flow and turbulent kinetic energy with varying shape of neck and housing of rear view mirror.

Performance of array sonars towed underwater is limited due to the self-noise induced mainly by the strumming vibration of the towing cable and also turbulent flow around the acoustic sensor module. The vibration of the towing cable generates axisymmetric waves that propagate along the acoustic module of the array sonar and produce self-noise. The present study aims to investigate the characteristics of the self-noise induced by the axisymmetric vibrations of the acoustic module. The waves of interest are the bulge and extensional waves propagating along the fluid-filled elastic hose. Dispersion relations of these waves are predicted by means of the numerical simulation to evaluate the wave speeds. The self-noise induced by the axisymmetric waves are formulated taking into account the damping of the elastic hose and the effect of the damping is investigated.
This research is to decide the possibility of using RM50(reformulated methanol fuel) without any modification of engine by the method of numerical analysis. Comparing the heat release rate, the difference among each fuel was decreased according to the increase of the engine speed, and the maximum heat release rate was higher in the order of RM50 and gasoline fuel. Also, this order corresponds to the order of burning speed. RM50 had the higher turbulent burning speed, and the curve of turbulent intensity was showed similar tendency to the curve of turbulent burning speed. RM50 had relatively high burning speed, short quenching length, high temperature in cylinder, so that it might increase NO emission, but owing to chemical reaction dynamics, it was decreased NO emission. Therefore, in order to predict the possibility of using RM50, it is needed to consider not only the temperature in cylinder by low heating value, but also combustion characteristics including burning speed.
Flow-induced noise propagated from flow over a sphere is numerically investigated for laminar flow at Re = 300 and 425, and for turbulent flow at Re = 3700 and $10^4$, where the Reynolds number is based on the freestream velocity and the sphere diameter. The numerical method used for obtaining the flow over a sphere is based on an immersed boundary method in a cylindrical coordinate system. The Curle’s solutions of the Lighthill’s acoustic analogy with and without the far-field and compact-source approximation are used in order to investigate the noise field from flow over a sphere. Since the drag and lift forces change irregularly in time at Re = 425, 3700 and $10^{4}$, the noise propagates in a complicated manner. At Re = 300, 425 and $10^{4}$, the noise from dipole sources is much larger than that from quadrupole sources. On the other hand, at Re = 3700, the quadrupole source becomes dominant. The temporal variation of the flow-induced noise around a sphere is obtained at some observation points, which shows that the peak frequency corresponds to the Strouhal number associated with the wake instability.
