The multi-dimensional two-phase flow models were developed for analyze the multi-dimensional behaviors or nuclear systems. To verify the simple turbulence model, The single phase mixing problem in a rectangular slab was calculated and compared with the commercial CFD code results. That result shows a good agreement with the CFD result. And the RPI Air-water experiments were simulated to assess the two-phase turbulence model in the multi-dimensional component. The first calculated distribution or void-fraction is highly dispersed and diffusive. It was revealed that the main reason is undesirable stratification force in a horizontal stratified flow regimes. Therefore the horizontally stratified flow regime is deleted because the stratified flow regime is not expected in multi-dimensional flow. With the modification of the flow regime, the predicted flow patterns and void fraction profiles are in good agreement with the measured data.

An experimental study has been conducted to investigate the effects of forcing amplitude on the tone-excited non-premixed jet flame of the resonance frequency. Visualization techniques are employed using the laser optic systems, which are RMS tomography, PLIF and PIV system. There are three lift-off histories according to the fuel flow rates and forcing amplitudes; the regime I always has the flame base feature like turbulent flame when the flame lift-off, while the flame easily lift-off in the regime II even if a slight forcing amplitude applied. The other is a transient regime and occurs between the regime I and regime II, which has the flame base like the bunsen flame of partial premixed flame. In the regime I and II, the characteristics of the mixing and velocity profile according to the forcing phase were investigated by the acetone PLIF, PIV system. Particular understanding is focused on the distinction of lift-off history in the regime I and II.

The flow characteristics of supersonic ejectors is often subject to compressibility, unsteadiness and shock wave systems. The numerical works carried out thus far have been of one-dimensional analyses or some Computational Fluid Dynamics(CFD) which has been applied to only a very simplified configuration. For the design of effective ejector-pump systems the effects of secondary mass flow on the supersonic ejector flow should be fully understood. In the present work the supersonic ejector-pump flows with a secondary mass flow were simulated using CFD. A fully implicit finite volume scheme was applied to axisymmetric compressible Navier-Stokes equations. The standard two-equation turbulence model was employed to predict turbulent stresses. The results obtained showed that the flow characteristics of constant area mixing tube types were nearly independent of the secondary flow rate, but the flow fields of ejector system with the second-throat were strongly dependent on the secondary flow rate due to the effect of the back pressure near the primary nozzle exit.
This experimental study was performed to investigate internal flow and unsteady flow characteristics using a model for actual shape of a plate heat exchanger and visualization of flow through the particle image velocimetry. Seven Reynolds numbers were selected by calculation with the height of grooved channel and sectional mean velocity of inlet flow in the experiment, and instantaneous velocity distributions and flow characteristics were experimently investigated. The triangular grooved channel had a compound flow consisting of the flow in lower channel and the groove flow receiving shear stress by the channel flow in the experiment. The sheared mixing layer, in the boundary between the triangular groove and the channel, affected main flow to raise turbulent in the channel.
Surface energy and $CO_2$ fluxes have been measured over an ocean at Ieodo Ocean Research Station of KORDI since May 2003. Eddy covariance technique, which is a direct flux measurement, is used to quantitatively understand the interaction between the ocean surface and the atmospheric boundary layer. Although fluxes were continuously measured during the period from May 2003 to February 2004, the quality control of these data yielded <20% of data retrieval. The atmospheric stability did not show any distinct dirunal patterns and remained near-neutral to stable from May to June but mostly unstable during fall and winter in 2003. Sensible heat flux showed a good correlation with the difference between the sea water temperature and the air temperature. The maximum fluxes of sensible heat and latent heat were $120Wm^{-2}$ and $350Wm^{-2}$ respectively, with an averaged Bowen ratio of 0.2. The ocean around the tower absorbed $CO_2$ from the atmosphere and the uptake rates showed seasonal variations. Based our preliminary results, the daytime $CO_2$ flux was steady with an average of $-0.1 mgCO_2m^{-2}s^{-1}$ in summer and increased in winter. The nighttime $CO_2$ uptake was greater and fluctuating, reaching up to $-0.1 mgCO_2m^{-2}s^{-1}$ but these data require further examination due to weak turbulent mixing at nighttime. The magnitude of $CO_2$ flux was positively correlated with the half hourly changes in horizontal mean wind speed. Due to the paucity of quality data, further data collection is needed for more detailed analyses and interpretation.

The basic flow configuration is composed of a plane, double shear layer where relatively thin mid gas layer is sandwiched between air and fuel stream. The present study describes numerical investigations concerning the combustion enhancement according to a variation of mid layer thickness. In this case, the effect of heat release in turbulent mixing layers is important. For the numerical solution, a fully conservative unsteady $2^{nd}$ order time accurate sub-iteration method and $2^{nd}$ order TVD scheme are used with the finite volume method including k-${\omega}$ SST model. The results consists of three categories; single shear layer consists of fuel and air, inert gas sandwiched between fuel and air, cold fuel gas sandwiched between fuel and air. The numerical calculations has been carried out in case of 1, 2, 4 mm of mid layer thickness. The height of total gas stream is 4 cm. The combustion region is broadened in case of inert gas layer of 2, 4 mm thickness and cold fuel layer of 4 mm thickness compared with single shear layer.

We focus on two Galactic molecular clouds that are located in wholly different environments and both are observed by FIMS instrument onboard STSAT-1. The Draco cloud is known as a translucent molecular cloud at high Galactic latitude. The FUV spectra show important ionic lines of C IV, Si IV+O IV], Si II* and Al II, indicating the existence of hot and warm interstellar gases in the region. The enhanced C IV emission inside the Draco cloud region is attributable to the turbulent mixing of the interacting cold and warm/hot media, which is supported by the detection of the O III] emission line and the $H{\alpha}$ feature in this region. The Si II* emission covers the remainder of the region outside the Draco cloud, in agreement with previous observations of Galactic halos. Additionally, the H2 fluorescent map is consistent with the morphology of the atomic neutral hydrogen and dust emission of the Draco cloud. In the Aquila Rift region near Galactic plane, FIMS observed that the FUV continuum emission from the core of the Aquila Rift suffers heavy dust extinction. The entire field is divided into three sub-regions that are known as the- "halo," "diffuse," and "star-forming" regions. The "diffuse" and "star-forming" regions show various prominent H2 fluorescent emission lines, while the "halo" region indicates the general ubiquitous characteristics of H2. The CLOUD model and the FUV line ratio are included here to investigate the physical conditions of each sub-region. Finally, the development of an infrared imaging system known as the MIRIS instrument onboard STSAT-3 is briefly introduced. It can be used in WIM studies through $Pa{\alpha}$ observations.
Without electirc power to cool down the hot reactor core, passive systems utilizing natural circulation are becoming a big specialty of recent neculear systems after the severe accident in Fukusima. When we consider the natural circulation in a pool, thermal mixing phenomena may start from single phase circulation and can continue to two phase condition. Since the CUPID code, which has been developed for two-phase flow analysis, can deal with the phase transition phenomena, the CUPID would be pertinent to natural convection problems in single- and two-phase conditions. Thus, the CUPID should be validated against single- and two-phase natural circulation phenomena. For the first step of the validation process, this study is focused on the validation of single-phase natural circulation. Moreover, the CUPID code solves the fluid properties by the relationship to pressure and temperature from the steam table considering non-condensable gas effects, so that the effects from variable properties are included. Simple square thermal cavity problems are tested for laminar and turbulent conditions against numerical and experimental data. Throughout the investigation, it is found that the variable properties can affect the flow field in laminar condition, but the effect becomes weak in turbulence condition, and the CUPID code implementing steam table is capable of analyzing single phase natural circualtion phenomena.

An experimental study is conducted to investigate the effect of two-frequency forcing on turbulent flow behind a backward-facing step at the Reynolds number of 27000 based on the step height. The forcing is provided from a thin slit located at the edge of the backward-facing step to increase mixing behind the backward-facing step and consequently to reduce the reattachment length. With single frequency forcing, the minimum reattachment length is obtained at the non-dimensional forcing frequency (F) of St$\_$h/ = 0.29. With two-frequency forcing, a subharmonic frequency (F/2) or biharmonic frequency (2F) is combined with the fundamental frequency (F), i.e. (F, F/2) or (F, 2F) forcing is applied. In the case of (F, F/2) forcing, the reattachment length is not much sensitive to the phase difference between F and F/2. However, the reattachment length significantly depends on the phase difference between F and 2F in the case of (F, 2F) forcing. At a certain range of the phase difference, the reattachment length becomes smaller than that of the single frequency forcing.

The tribrachial flame has attracted interest as a basic structure of the flame edge. This flame structure helps understand stabilization of laminar flames and re-ignition of turbulent flames. A number of analytical and experimental studies have been carried out on the tribrachial flame. However, the effect of the variation of the flammability limits on the structure of the tribrachial flame has not been studied in detail. In this study, the effect of non-symmetric flammability limits on the flame structure was investigated by adopting a simple numerical scheme based on several laminar flame theories. A fixed velocity field was considered and boundary matching algorithm was used on the premixed branch. The variation of the diffusion branches under the non-symmetric flammability limits and heat loss was investigated. The formation and extinction of the diffusion branch behind the premixed branch were successfully described. This basic study can help understand the fundamental structure of the flame and can form the basis of subsequent detailed studies.
