When the Eulerian-Lagrangian method is used to analyze the particle laden two-phase flow, a large number of particles should be used to obtain statistically meaningful solutions. Then it takes too much time to track the particles and to average the particle properties in the numerical analysis of two-phase flow. The purpose of this paper is to reduce the computation time by means of a set of particle gird separate to the flow grid. Particle motion equation here is the simplified B-B-O equation, which is integrated to get the particle trajectories. Particle turbulent dispersion, wall collision, and wall roughness effects are considered but the two-way coupling effects between gas and particles are neglected. Particle laden 2-D channel flow is solved and it is shown that the computational efficiency is indeed improved by using the current method
In the present study, flow characteristics of turbulent pulsating flow in a square-sectional $180^{\circ}$ curved duct were experimentally investigated. Experimental studies for air flows were conducted to measure axial velocity and wall shear stress distributions and entrance length in a square-sectional $180^{\circ}$ curved duct by using the LDV with the data acquisition and the processing system. The experiment was conducted in seven sections from the inlet (${\phi}=0^{\circ}$) to the outlet (${\phi}=180^{\circ}$) at $30^{\circ}$ intervals of the duct. The results obtained from the experimentation were summarized as follows ; (1) When the ratio of velocity amplitude ($A_1$) was less than one, there was hardly any velocity change in the section except near the wall and any change in axial velocity distributions along the phase. When the ratio of velocity amplitude ($A_1$) was 0.6, the change rate of velocity was slow. (2) Wall shear stress distributions of turbulent pulsating flow were similar to those of turbulent steady flow. The value of the wall shear stress became minimum in the inner wall aid gradually increased toward the outer wall where it became maximum. (3) The entrance length of turbulent pulsating flow reached near the region of bend angle of $90^{\circ}$, like that of turbulent steady flow. The entrance length was changed by the dimensionless angular frequency (${\omega}^+$).
The intermittent spray characteristics of the single-hole diesel nozzle (d$\sub$n/=0.32 mm) used in the fuel injection system of heavy-duty diesel engines were experimentally investigated. The mean velocity and turbulent characteristics of the diesel spray injected intermittently into the still ambient were measured by using a 2-D PDPA (phase Doppler particle analyzer) . The gradient of spray half-width linearly increased with time from the start of injection, and it approximated to 0.04 at the end of the injection. The axial mean velocity of the fuel spray measured along the radial direction was similar to that of the free air jet within R/b= 1.0-1.5 regardless of elapsing time, and its non-dimensional distribution corresponds to the theoretical velocity distributions suggested by Hinze in the downstream of the spray flow fields. The turbulent intensity of the axial velocity components measured along the radial direction represented the 20-30% of the U$\sub$cι/ and tended to decrease in the outer region. The turbulent intensity in the trailing edge was higher than that in the leading edge.

LES(Large eddy simulation) of breakup and droplet atomization of a liquid jet into cross turbulent flow was performed. Two phase flow of gas and liquid phases were modeled by the mixed numerical scheme of both Eulerian and Lagrangian methods for gas and liquid droplet respectively. The breakup process of a liquid column and droplets was observed by implementing the blob-KH wave breakup model. The penetration depth into cross flow was comparable with experimental data for several variants of the liquid-gas momentum flux ratio by varying liquid injection velocity. SMD(Sauter Mean Diameter) distribution downstream of jet was analyzed.

This study is focused on the comparison of a 3 dimensional numerical and hydraulic model experiment for the flow phenomenon when a lock gate is opened. The lock gate is designed to discharge the flood flow rate at $218m^3/s$ of Solicheon at the Kun Jang national industry complex. The three dimensional ${\kappa}-{\epsilon}$ turbulent model of ANSYS CFX-10 of the computational fluid dynamics(CFD) program was used. The characteristics of CFX-10 are able to be simulated effectively for turbulent flow, especially the flow separation of the boundary layer of the two phase interface of air and water. The velocity and the flow pattern of the numerical model was showed to be similar to the results of the hydraulic model experiment.

The present study has been performed for obtaining the melting heat transfer enhancement characteristics of water mixture slurries of plural microcapsules having different diameters encapsulated with solid-liquid phase change material(PCM) flowing in a pipe heated under a constant wall heat flux condition. In the turbulent flow region, the friction factor of the present PCM slurry was to be lower than that of only water flow due to the drag reducing effect of the PCM slurry. The heat transfer coefficient of the PCM slurry flow in the pipe was increased by both effects of latent heat involved in phase change process and microconvection around plural microcapsules with different diameters. The experimental results revealed that the average heat transfer coefficient of the PCM slurry flow was about 2~2.8 times greater than that of a single phase of water.

Characteristics of two-phase flow and heat transfer were numerically investigated in a submerged gas Injection system. Effects of both the gas flow rate and bubble size were investigated. In addition, heat transfer characteristic and effects of heat transfer were investigated when temperature of the injected gas was different from that of the liquid. The Eulerian approach was used for the formulation of both the continuous and the dispersed phases. The turbulence in the liquid phase was modeled by the use of the standard $k-{\varepsilon}$ turbulence model. The interphase friction and heat transfer coefficient were calculated by means of correlations available in the literature. The turbulent dispersion of the phases was modeled by introducing a "dispersion Prandtl number". The plume region and the axial velocities are increased with increases in the gas flow rate and with decreases in the bubble diameter. The turbulent flow field grows stronger with the increases in the gas flow rate and with the decreases in the bubble diameter. In case that the heat transfer between the liquid and the gas is considered, the axial and the radial velocities are decreased in comparison with the case that there is no temperature difference between the liquid and the gas when the temperature of the injected gas is higher than the mean liquid temperature. The results in the present research are of interest in the design and the operation of a wide variety of material and chemical processes.
This study presents a mode analysis of 3D turbulent velocity data around a square-section building model to identify the dynamic system for Kármán-type vortex shedding. Proper orthogonal decomposition (POD) was first performed to extract the significant 3D modes. Magnitude-squared coherence was then applied to detect the phase consistency between the modes, which were roughly divided into three groups. Group 1 (modes 1-4) depicted the main vortex shedding on the wake of the building, with mode 2 being controlled by the inflow fluctuation. Group 2 exhibited complex wake vortexes and single-sided vortex phenomena, while Group 3 exhibited more complicated phenomena, including flow separation. Subsequently, a third-order polynomial regression model was used to fit the dynamics system of modes 1, 3, and 4, which revealed average trend of the state trajectory. The two limit cycles of the regression model depicted the two rotation directions of Kármán-type vortex. Furthermore, two characteristic periods were identified from the trajectory generated by the regression model, which indicates fast and slow motions of the wake vortex. This study provides valuable insights into 3D mode morphology and dynamics of Kármán-type vortex shedding that helps to improve design and efficiency of structures in turbulent flow.

This study is an analysis of the turbulent diffusion flame with swirl flow and the calculated results are compared with experimental data in case of various swirl numbers and air-fuel rations. The mathematical model is restricted to single-phase, diffusion controlled combustion with swirl flow. Values of local flow properties were obtained by solving appropriate differential equation for continuity, momentum, stagnation enthalpy, concentration, turbulence energy, dissipation rate of turbulence energy, and the mean square of concentration fluctuation. The method is proposed for calculating the local probability of chemical reaction based on the use of the probability density function for the mixture fraction.
This paper presents turbulent characteristics of an impinging F-O-O-F type injector in which fuel ad oxidizer impinge on each other to atomize under the different momentum ratio. Water was used as an inert simulant liquid instead of fuel and oxidizer. The droplet size and velocity in the impinging spray flow field were measured using a PDPA. The gradient of the spray half-width(b$_2$) along the long-axis direction declined throughout the entire spray flow field with increasing the momentum ratio from 1.19 to 6.48. However, the gradient of the half-width(b$_1$) along the short-axis direction decreased with increasing the momentum ratio. The turbulence intensity and turbulent kinetic energy were converged into the center of the center of the initial region with increasing the momentum ratio. As the momentum ratio increased from MR=1.19 to MR=6.48, the turbulent shear stress decreased. The results of this study can be used for the design of an impinging type injector for liquid rackets.
