Repeated ribs are used on heat exchange surfaces to promote turbulence and enhance convective heat transfer. Applications include fuel rods of gas-cooled nuclear reactors, inside cavities of turbine blades, and internal surfaces pipes used in heat exchangers. Despite the great number of literature papers, only few experimental data concern detailed distributions of friction factors and heat transfer coefficients in square channels varying the number of rough walls. This issue is tackled by investigating effects of different number of ribbed walls on heat transfer and friction characteristics in square channel. The rough wall have a $45{\circ}C$ inclined square rib. Uniform heat flux is maintained on whole inner heat transfer channel area. The heat transfer coefficient and friction factor values increase with increasing the number of rough walls.
Recently, many companies are interested in adopting cloud computing as their IT strategy. However, no distinct results have appeared in the substantial implementation of this technology. The main reason for such result is from the absence of research models leading to high impact studies on cloud computing. Thus, this study attempts to find a possible answer for the following research question : what factors influence an organizational assimilation of cloud computing? This study investigates Technology-Push (TP)/Need-Pull (NP) theory as a main factor affecting cloud computing assimilation. Also, the study examines the moderating role of organizational readiness. TP includes of perceived benefits, vendor pressure, cost savings, and IT activity intensity while NP includes competitor orientation, information technology policy, technological turbulence, and performance gaps. In addition, organizational readiness suggests two variables, financial resources and technological knowledge. Result from 217 adopting organizations showed that all of these factors with exception of competitor orientation and vendor pressure, have statistically significant impact on assimilation of cloud computing. The implications of the findings propose a theoretical framework for the foundation of studies on cloud computing assimilation, which can server as important practical guidelines for technology development.

A numerical study for performance analysis of a counterflow type forced draft tower and natural draft cooling tower has been performed based on the method using the finite volume method with non-orthogonal body fitted and non-staggered grid system. For solving the coupling problem between water and air, air enthalpy balance, moisture fraction balance, water enthalpy balance, and water mass balance equations are solved with Navier-Stoke’s equations simultaneously. For the effect of turbulence, the standard k-$\varepsilon$ turbulent model is implied in this analysis. The predicted result of the present analysis is compared with the experimental data and the commercial software result to validate the present study, The predicted results show good agreement with the experimental data and the commercial software result. To investigate the influence of the cooling tower design parameters such as approach, range and wet bulb temperature, parametric studies are also peformed.

Wilson and Bappu found a tight correlation between the stellar absolute visual magnitude (MV) and the width of the Ca II K emission line for late-type stars in 1957. Here, we revisit the Wilson-Bappu relationship (hereafter, WBR) to claim that WBR can be an excellent indicator of stellar surface gravity of late-type stars as well as a distance indicator. We have measured the width (W) of the Ca II K emission line in high resolution spectra of 125 late-type stars, which were obtained with Bohyunsan Optical Echelle Spectrograph (BOES) and adopted from the UVES archive. Based on our measurement of the emission line width (W), we have obtained a WBR of $M_V=33.76-18.00{\log}W$. In order to extend the WBR to be a surface gravity indicator, the stellar atmospheric parameters such as effective temperature ($T_{eff}$), surface gravity (logg), metallicity ([Fe/H]), and micro-turbulence (${\xi}_{tur}$) have been derived from the self-consistent detailed analysis using the Kurucz stellar atmospheric model and the abundance analysis code, MOOG. Using these stellar parameters and logW, we found that ${\log}g=-5.85\;{\log}W+9.97\;{\log}T_{eff}-23.48$ for late-type stars.

This study investigates effects of three different parameterizations of vertical mixing scheme on upper ocean simulation of the East Sea, focusing on the seasonal variations of the sea surface temperature(SST) and the mixed layer depth(MLD) using an ocean general circulation model(GFDL MOM1.1). The considered vertical mixing schemes are the Laplacian scheme(L scheme) that use a constant eddy coefficient, the Mellor-Yamada scheme(MY scheme), and a new scheme(Noh scheme). The Noh scheme, a second-order turbulence closure, was developed considering recent observational evidences such as the enhancement of turbulent kinetic energy near the sea surface. During summer L scheme underestimates the SST, while MY scheme overestimates the SST, compared to climatological SST. Noh scheme produces the SST in better agreement with climatological one. During winter all schemes overestimate the SST up to $4^{\circ}C$ compared to climatological SST. Vertical profiles of the basin-mean temperature show that L scheme produces higher temperature below the thermocline than those of other schemes. The winter MLD simulated from L scheme is rather large compared to that from other schemes, but the differences in MLD during summer are not significant.
Simultaneous pressure measurements on 2D square prisms with various corner modifications were performed in uniform flow with low turbulence level, and the testing Reynolds numbers varied from $1.0{\times}10^5$ to $4.8{\times}10^5$. Experimental models were a square prism, three chamfered-corner square prisms (B/D=5%, 10%, and 15%, where B is the chamfered corner dimension and D is the cross-sectional dimension), and six rounded-corner square prisms (R/D =5%, 10%, 15%, 20%, 30%, and 40%, where R is the corner radius). Experimental results of drag coefficients, wind pressure distributions, power spectra of aerodynamic force coefficients, and Strouhal numbers are presented. Ten models are divided into various categories according to the variations of mean drag coefficients with Reynolds number. The mean drag coefficients of models with $B/D{\leq}15%$ and $R/D{\leq}15%$ are unaffected by the Reynolds number. On the contrary, the mean drag coefficients of models with R/D=20%, 30%, and 40% are obviously dependent on Reynolds number. Wind pressure distributions around each model are analyzed according to the categorized results. The influence mechanisms of corner modifications on the aerodynamic characteristics of the square prism are revealed from the perspective of flow around the model, which can be obtained by analyzing the local pressures acting on the model surface.

Most of the recent for the flow field hydrofoil in partially cavitating condition are the ones which are linearized, and the problem of cavity end region for hydrofoil is not verified. This paper deals with a study on characteristics of end region flow field for partially cavitating hydrofoil by using a characteristics of shear turbulence flow and nonlinear cavity flow theory. The results obtained as follows : 1) Shear layer thickness is decreased gradually going to the end section of hydrofoil. When attack angle is large, it is appeared largely at the region of partial cavitation after its collapsing. 2) The fluctuation velocity of a second-degree relative direction have minimum value at the front of hydrofoil or at the end of hydrofoil. The difference for the validity of attack angle is appeared largely at the surrounding of .chi.$_{e}$ point. 3) The fluctuation velocity of transverse direction decrease from the maximum thickness of cavitation to the end of hydrofoil, but it undergoes largely the effect of pressure recovery. The difference is larger at the region of partial cavitation after its collapsing than at the of hydrofoil. 4) The distribution of Reynolds stress have maximum values at the region of partial cavitation after its collapsing and the end of foil, and the larger attack angle, the larger the distribution of value.e.

Recently, the improvement of fuel economy and the reduction of exhaust smoke and NOx have been successfully achieved by supplying diesel engines with emulsified diesel oil with water particles. In the present paper, the difference between the combustion of injected emulsified fuel and that of diesel oil spray is clarified by means of taking high-speed and color photographs of the flames in the engine cylinder. As the results, the two kinds of fuels show different combustion behavior each other in the growth of initial flame and in the termination of combustion process in the cylinder. Then, suitable combustion chamber design for the use of emulsified fuel is discussed on the basis of experimental data for various distribution of spray in different kinds of piston cavities. Some methods of clearing troubles caused by emulsified fuel injection are also discussed on the basis of performance tests with a remodeling test engine.

Flow characteristics of the wake behind a finite circular cylinder(FC) mounted on a flat plate was experimentally investigated. Three finite cylinder models having aspect ratio (length to diameter ratio, L/D) of 6,10 and 13 were tested in this study. Wake velocity was measured by a hot-wire anemometry at Reynolds number of 20,000, and the results were compared with those of two-dimensional circular cylinder. As a result, the free-end effect on the wake structure becomes more dominant with decreasing the aspect ratio(L/D) of the finite cylinder. Invisid flow entrained into the wake region decreases the turbulence intensity and periodicity of the vortex shedding due to existence of the free end. From spectral analysis and cross correlation of the velocity signals, vortices having 24Hz frequency characteristics are found in the down wash flow just behind the free end. There exists very complicated flow near the free end due to interaction between the entrained flow and streamwise vortices. Vortex formation region is destroyed significantly in the near wake and shows quite different wake structures from those of 2-D cylinder.

Among the various types of diesel after-treatment device, the corona discharge reactor may be considered as a powerful process for trapping submicron particles. But after precipitation on the electrodes occurs, the reentrainment of particles is severe and often causes low or negative precipitation efficiency. Experiments were performed to investigate the effect of an applied voltage on the reentrainment of soot particles from the electrodes. A co-annular laminar diffusion flame burner was used as the soot generator. When a highly negative voltage was applied, exfoliation of the deposited soot particles and an increase in concentration of particles smaller than approximately 150 nm were observed. Turbulence induced from the negative tuft corona and sputtering caused particle reentrainment from the corona wire and from plates as well. Under soot laden combustion gas, a streamer corona often occurred in the wire-cylinder reactor. Because of its transient nature, streamer corona violently increased the concentration of reentrained particles and CO gas.
