Turbocharger is a device for increasing the power of a vehicle engine. The control plate is the main component for fixing the vane of the turbocharger. Now, the control plate is made of austenite steel cutting after the casting process. It has excellent corrosion, heat resistance and mechanical characteristics of material. However, present the process is made by cutting after casting. when cutting is processed after casting, so materials, processing time, and processing energy are lost. Therefore, this study proposes a process to powder compact use of stainless steel Deklak2 and to minimize amount of cutting through net shape process. The mechanical properties of Deklak2 were verified by tensile test, hardness test and relative density measurement, and the governed equation was defined. Also, the curvature radius 1, 2 and the density, affects the shape, were selected as the design parameters, and the best process conditions was proposed through the Taguchi method and the evaluation of SN ratio. And then prototype molds were fabricated and compared with the results of the finite element analysis for the verification, and it was found that the tendency of relative density and dimension was coincided. Therefore, it was found that the amount of cutting can be minimized by only the net shape process after the sintering process and it can be applied to mass production.
The use of turbocharger in internal combustion engines has increased as it is a key components for improving system efficiency without increasing engine size. Because of increasing demand, many studies have evaluated rotordynamic performance so as to increase rotation speed. This paper presents a linear and nonlinear analysis model for a turbocharger rotor supported by a floating ring bearing. We constructed rotor model by using the finite element method and approximated bearings as being infinitely short. In the linear model, we considered fluid film force as stiffness and damping element. In nonlinear analysis, calculation of the fluid film force involved solving the time dependent Reynolds equation. We verified the developed model by comparing the results to those of previous research. The analysis results show that there are four unstable modes, which are rigid body modes combining ring and rotor motion. As the rotating speed increases, the logarithmic decrement shows that certain unstable modes goes into the stable area or the stable mode goes into the unstable area. These unstable modes appear as sub-synchronous vibrations in nonlinear analysis. In nonlinear analysis frequency jump phenomenon demonstrated in several experimental studies appears. The analysis results also showed that frequency jump phenomenon occurs when the vibration mode changes and the sequence of unstable mode matches the linear analysis result. However, the natural frequency predicted using linear analysis differs from those obtained using nonlinear analysis.

An object of this study is to confirm application characteristics of the vortex tube apparatus for substitution of the intercooler in a common-rail diesel engine. The turbo pressure, the intake air mass flow rate and the charging air cooling ratio of the intercooler were measured in an experimental engine. The vortex tube apparatus was made after confirmation of the geometric phenomena in fundamental experiments. The vortex tube designed with fundamental data was applied to a conventional common-rail diesel engine instead of the intercooler. Its application characteristics, engine performances and emissions were investigated. From this experimental results, we suggested the vortex tube can be applied to a conventional common-rail diesel engine throughout extra complement. We can also expect the higher cooling effect, if we consider the application of the vortex tube in supercharging diesel engine without the intercooler.

An object of this study is to confirm performance characteristics of the vortex tube apparatus for substitution of the intercooler in a common-rail diesel engine. The turbo pressure, the intake air flow rate and the ${\Delta}T_c$ decrease ratio of the intercooler were measured in a experimental engine. The vortex tube apparatus was made after confirmation of the geometric phenomena in fundamental experiments. To investigate energy separation characteristics of the vortex tube, the measured turbo pressure was applied to the vortex tube inlet and the ${\Delta}T_c$ decrease ratio was compared with one of the intercooler in the cold air mass flow ratio similar to the intake air flow rate of the experimental engine. From the results, we found that the energy separation ratio is increased according to of the inlet pressure and the ${\Delta}T_c$ decrease ratio of the vortex tube apparatus is higher than one of the intercooler at low engine speed and engine load of medium and low.

This study aims to investigate the impact of the High Pressure Selective Catalytic Reduction system (SCR-HP) on a large marine two-stroke engine performance parameters by employing thermodynamic modelling. A coupled model of the zero-dimensional type is extended to incorporate the modelling of the SCR-HP components and the Control Bypass Valve (CBV) block. This model is employed to simulate several scenarios representing the engine operation at both healthy and degraded conditions considering the compressor fouling and the SCR reactor clogging. The derived results are analysed to quantify the impact of the SCR-HP on the investigated engine performance. The SCR system pressure drop and the cylinder bypass valve flow cause an increase of the engine Specific Fuel Oil Consumption (SFOC) in the range 0.3-2.77 g/kWh. The thermal inertia of the SCR-HP is mainly attributed to the SCR reactor, which causes a delayed turbocharger response. These effects are more pronounced at low engine loads. This study supports the better understanding of the operating characteristics of marine two-stroke diesel engines equipped with the SCR-HP and quantification of the impact of the components degradation on the engine performance.

The development of the effective computer simulation program which predicts the performances and emissions of the multi-cylinder turbocharged gasoline engine has been described in the first paper. In this paper, the comparison between the predictions and experiments of the transient pressure at each point in the intake and exhaust systems was made to examine the validity and availability of the simulation models adopted. This test was performed for the engines equipped with different turbochargers under various operating conditions. The results of calculation showed good agreements with the experimental data and proved that the simulation program developed can be used for the matching of the turbocharger to the engine.

A modular programming approach for simulation/control of turbocharged diesel engines is investigated. The MATLAB/SIMULINK, which provides easy construction of various control modules and handy retrieval of objects, is adopted as a programming environment. The mathematical models for diesel engines are utilized from the literature. The object-oriented modules, which represent mechanical parts or theoretical algorithms for engines, are easily transferable to other application programs in the same environment. The simulation model is applied to a 4 strokes diesel engine. Details of the block diagrams of example modules are demonstrated. Finally, a PI controller and a sliding mode controller are applied to the simulator constructed for a typical turbocharged diesel engine.

In this study, it is designed and used the test engine bed which is installed with turbocharger, and in addition to equipped using by oxygen adder. It has been controlled the oxygen volumetric fraction of intake air chrge, and supercharged flow rate into the cylinder of SI 4-stroke engine, and then, has been analyzed engine performance, combustion characteristics, and exhaust emission as analysis parameters. The tested parameters were the oxygen fraction and the variation of engine speed and air-fuel ratio.
This paper deals with the effects of pulsating flow on volumetric efficiency, which may be generated during the gas exchange procedure, due to piston motion, valve event on intake and exhaust stroke and unsteady flow of turbocharger of a three-cylinder four stroke turbo-charged diesel engine. Consequently, volumetric efficiency affects significantly the engine performance; torque characteristics, fuel economy and further to emission and noise level. As the expansion ratio became larger the engine speed varies and torque increases, the pressure pulsation in an exhaust gas pipe acts as an increasing factor of intake air charging capacity totally. The phase and amplitude of pressure pulsation in the intake system only affects volumetric efficiency favorably, if it is well matched and tuned effectively to the engine. Thus, to verify the exact phase and amplitude of the pressure variation is the ultimate solution for the air-flow ratio assessment in the intake stroke. Some experimental results of pressure diagrams in the intake pipe and gas-flow of turbine in-outlet are presented, under various kinds of operating condition.

Through this study, the performance evaluation on the addition of low-pressure loop EGR(Exhaust Gas Recirculation) in a 6.0 L commercial diesel engine was carried out using WAVE modeling and simulation. Since the key technology of advanced diesel engine combustion such as low-temperature combustion is to steadily supply high rates of EGR in a wide operating range, the current study could be effectively contribute to the design and development processes of up-to-date diesel engine systems as real-world reference data. The current simulation results show that the system in which low-pressure loop EGR is added shows almost 2.3 times increase in maximum EGR rate at 1000 rpm as well as almost 1.6 times increase at 2200 and 1600 rpm in comparison with an engine system employing high-pressure loop EGR only. Also, both turbocharger axis speed and charging pressure level did not deteriorate due to the addition of low-pressure loop EGR at 2200 and 1000 rpm, but they were fairly decreased at 1600 rpm.
