This study is to evaluate the effect of chemical attack on durability and deterioration of lining concrete in tunnel. Surface examination, nondestructive inspection, uniaxial compressive strength test, carbonation test, chloride diffusion test, micro-structural analysis were performed to analyze the deterioration of lining concrete in tunnel constructed 70 years ago. From surface examination results, the tunnel had been repaired and reinforced in several times. It has many cracks, water-leakage, efflorescence and exploitation. Compressive strengths obtained from nondestructive inspection and uniaxial compressive strength test have measured $17.5{\sim}34.7MPa$, and $12.8{\sim}40.3MPa$, respectively. Carbonation depth specimen cored from concrete lining has ranged from 3mm to 27mm. From chloride diffusion test, most specimens have low permeability. And the XRD analysis was able to detect ettringite and thaumasite, which were confirmed by SEM and EDS results to be the causes for the deterioration of lining concrete.
This paper presents the fundamental parameters for designing the NATM Composite Lining to be used in NATM tunnel construction. Firstly, the concept of NATM Composite Lining behaviour is introduced and reviewed in construction-performance. For the fundamental study, the optimal mix ratio tests and backfill material property tests to develop high-quality composite lining (PC panel lining) are fundamentally carried out. And the light-weight foamed mortar which is used for backfill material is developed. Full-scale loading tests to verify a performance of the NATM Composite Lining is also performed. From this research, it is clearly found that the NATM Composite Lining is very applicable method to considerably increase the stability and constructability of tunnel structure.

Steel fiber-reinforced concrete (SFRC) is widely used for tunnel lining structure such as shot-crete in NATM tunnel and segment in TBM tunnel. In tunnel fire accidents, structural performance of a lining is very important because the lining is the structure that directly exposed to fire. In this study, the effects of high temperatures, mix ratios and types on failure pattern, DPT tensile strength and coefficient of variation were investigated through Double Punch Tests (DPT) of SFRC subjected to high temperatures. In the results, it is confirmed that the residual DPT tensile strength increases as for SFRC and this is more in SFRC with higher mix ratio. But, the equation for evaluation of DPT tensile strength does not involve the number of failure surfaces SFRC specimens subjected to high temperatures, therefore, it is required to investigate more fracture energy in DPT tests.
The objective of this paper is to present abacuses obtained from a parametric study of deep-lined tunnels using a numerical finite element model. This numerical model was implemented in software GEOMEC91, which is a two-dimensional axisymmetric model that considers the progress of excavation and the placing of the lining through the activation and deactivation of elements. It is adopted a step of excavation constant (1/3 of radius), constant velocity and circular cross section along the tunnel axis. It is used for rock mass a viscoplastic constitutive law with von-Mises criterion of viscoplasticity without hardening whose deformation rate over time is given by the Bingham model. The lining uses a linear elastic constitutive law. In total are 1716 analysis presented in 60 abacuses that show the value of ultimate convergence ($U_{eq}$) due to tunneling speed. In addition, it is shown an example of the use of the abacuses to determine the ultimate convergence ($U_{eq}$) of the tunnel and pressure ($P_{eq}$) on the lining.

The objective of this paper is to investigate the validity of transmitting boundaries in dynamic analysis of soil-structure interaction problems. As a case study, the proposed Baghdad metro line is considered. The information about the dimensions and the material properties of the concrete tunnel and surrounding soil were obtained from a previous study. A parametric study is carried out to investigate the effect of several parameters including the peak value of the horizontal component of earthquake displacement records and the frequency of the dynamic load. The computer program (Mod-MIXDYN) is used for the analysis. The numerical results are analyzed for three conditions; finite boundaries (traditional boundaries), infinite boundaries modelled by infinite elements (5-node mapped infinite element) presented by Selvadurai and Karpurapu, 1988), and infinite boundaries modelled by dashpot elements (viscous boundaries). It was found that the transmitting boundary absorbs most of the incident energy. The distinct reflections observed for the "fixed boundaries" disappear by using "transmitted boundaries". This is true for both cases of using viscous boundaries or mapped infinite elements. The type and location of the dynamic load represent two controlling factors in deciding the importance of using infinite boundaries. It was found that the results present significant differences when earthquake is applied as a base motion or a pressure load is applied at the surface ground. The peak value of the vertical displacement at nodes A, B, E and F (located at the tunnel's crown and side walls, and at the surface above the tunnel and at the surface 6.5 m away from tunnel's centre respectively) increases with the frequency of the surface pressure load for both cases 1 and 2 (traditional boundaries and mapped infinite elements respectively) while it decreases for case 3 (viscous boundaries). The modular ratio Ec/Es (modulus of elasticity of the concrete lining to that of the surrounding soil) has a considerable effect on the peak value of the horizontal displacement at node B (on the side wall of the tunnel lining) increase about (17.5) times, for the three cases (1, 2, and 3).

FBG sensor system is applied to the concrete lining structure in Taegu subway. Near the structure, the power cable tunnel construction started. We wanted to measure the deformation of the structure due to the construction by the FBG sensor. The applied sensor has the gauge length of 1 meter to overcome the inhomogeneity of the concrete material with enough length. In order to fix tightly to the structure, the partially stripped parts of the sensor glued to the package and slip phenomenon between fiber and acrylate jacket was prevented. Prestrain of the sensor was imposed by controlling the two fixed points with bolts and nuts in order to measure compressive strain as well as tensile strain. The behavior of subway lining structure could be monitored very well.
As a result of the detailed site investigation performed for the design of a 4.3 km long tunnel, geological anomalies of four fault zones and a rock boundary were discovered on the tunnel route. Most of all, it was confirmed that pyrite, which may corrode steel material, is contained inside the geological anomalies, and pressured ground water flows out of the fault fractured zone. To overcome these geological conditions, antisulfur concrete for the concrete lining and anticorrosive swelling rock bolts are designed in the pyrite-containing sections. For the sections where a great amount of groundwater outflows, water blocking methods including grouting are applied according to the result of numerical analyses on the seepage. In addition, since the past earthquakes occurred around Korea have take place mainly near fault zones, seismic analyses were performed based on the Soil-Structure Interaction (SSI) concept and the strength of concrete tunnel lining is designed to be 27 MPa from 24 MPa in order to reinforce the tunnel structure.
Tunnel in subway should be designed as a water-proof type tunnel as much as possible but it is difficult to make it come true due to several facts, such as construction technique and cost. A drainage type tunnel as a substitute of a water-proof tunnel lead to the increase of water pressure on the concrete lining that make bad effect to tunnel structure when it has some problem to operate the drainage system. Throughout studying about cases on defects of tunnel drainage in subway We hope it contributes to tunnel maintenance.

Utilization of the fiber reinforced polymer (FRP) material has been increased as an alternative in a bid to supplement the problems with general construction materials such as long-term problems corrosion, etc. However, there are still many problems in using a linear-shaped FRP material for a tunnel lining structure which has arch-shape in general. In this study, the loading tests for the FRP-concrete composite member was carried out to evaluate their applicability as a tunnel reinforcement material, which are based on the results from preliminary numerical studies for identifying the behavioral characteristics of FRP-concrete composite member. Moreover, numerical analysis under the same condition as applied in the loading tests was again conducted for analysis of mechanical behavior of the composite member. As a result of the load test and numerical analysis, it appears that the FRP-concrete composite member is greatly subject to shear movement caused by bending tension acting on the interface between two constituent members.
Impact-echo is a method for non-destructive testing of concrete structure. This method is based on the use of impact-generated stress wave which is propagated and reflected from internal flaws within concrete structure and external surface. In this study, we performed non-destructive testing using impact-echo methods for safety diagnosis of civil engineering and building structures. There are testing cases for the three models having one-dimensional form ; The first case is the measurement of thickness change of the model, the second is the detection of cavity in the model, and the third is the predictions of the lining thickness and the position of the cavity under tunnel lining condition.
