Purpose : The essential triad for nerve regeneration is nerve conduit, supporting cell and neurotrophic factor. In order to improve the peripheral nerve regeneration, we used polyglycolic acid(PGA) tube and brain-derived neurotrophic factor(BDNF) gene transfected Schwann cells in sciatic nerve defects of SD rat. Materials and methods : Nerve conduits were made with PGA sheet and outer surface was coated with poly(lactic-co-glycolic acid) for mechanical strength and control the resorption rate. The diameter of conduit was 1.8mm and the length was 17mm Schwann cells were harvested from dorsal root ganglion(DRG) of SD rat aged 1 day. Schwann cells were cultured on the PGA sheet to test the biocompatibility adhesion of Schwann cell. Human BDNF gene was obtained from cDNA library and amplified using PCR. BDNF gene was inserted into E1 deleted region of adenovirus shuttle vector, pAACCMVpARS. BDNF-adenovirus was multiplied in 293 cells and purified. The BDNF-Adenovirus was then infected to the cultured Schwann cells. Left sciatic nerve of SD rat (250g weighing) was exposed and 14mm defects were made. After bridging the defect with PGA conduit, culture medium(MEM), Schwann cells or BDNF-Adenovirus infected Schwann cells were injected into the lumen of conduit, respectively. 12 weeks after operation, gait analysis for sciatic function index, electrophysiology and histomorphometry was performed. Results : Cultured Schwann cells were well adhered to PGA sheet. Sciatic index of BDNF transfected group was $-53.66{\pm}13.43$ which was the best among three groups. The threshold of compound action potential was between 800 to $1000{\mu}A$ in experimental groups which is about 10 times higher than normal sciatic nerve. Conduction velocity and peak voltage of action potential of BDNF group was the highest among experimental groups. The myelin thickness and axonal density of BDNF group was significantly greater than the other groups. Conclusion : BDNF gene transfected Schwann cells could regenerate the sciatic nerve gap(14mm) of rat successfully.
[ $MgB_2$ ]superconducting sheets have been fabricated using powder roll compaction method. Sheet-type $MgB_2$ bulk samples were successfully fabricated using the pre-reacted $MgB_2$ powders. In this work, $MgB_2$ powders were compacted by two rotating rolls and squeezed out as a form of $MgB_2$ sheets of ~1 mm thickness. The rolling speed of 0.3-0.7 rpm and the gap distance of 0.3-0.8 mm between the two rollers were carefully controlled to get a full compaction of the powders into bulk $MgB_2$ sheets. The densities of $MgB_2$ sheets were 1.98-2.05 g/$cm^3$, which is 75.44-77.99 % of the theoretical value of 2.63 g/$cm^3$. And the density comparison was made compared to those of typical $MgB_2$ bulks from uni-axial pressing and $MgB_2$ wires from Powder-In-Tube processing.
In this paper, a simple method of forming a solution-based carbon nanotube (CNT) for use as a conductive material for electronic devices was studied. The CNT thin film coating was performed on the glass by applying the spin coating method and the argon atmospheric pressure plasma process. In order to observe changes in electrical and physical properties according to the number of coatings, samples formed in the same manner from times 1 to 5 were prepared, and surface shape, reflectance, transmittance, absorbance, and sheet resistance were measured for each sample. As the number of coatings increased, the transmittance decreased, and the reflectance and absorptivity increased in the entire measurement wavelength range. Also, as the wavelength decreases, the transmittance decreases, and the reflectance and absorption increase. In the case of electrical properties, it was confirmed that the conductivity was significantly improved when the second coating was applied. In conclusion, in order to replace CNT with a transparent electrode, it is necessary to consider the number of coatings in consideration of reflectivity and electrical conductivity together, and it can be seen that 2 times is optimal.

Duplex stainless steels with nearly equal fraction of the ferrite(${\alpha}$) phase and austenite(${\gamma}$) phase have been increasingly used for various applications such as power plants, desalination facilities due to their high resistance to corrosion, good weldability, and excellent mechanical properties. Hyper duplex stainless steel (HDSS) is defined as the future duplex stainless steel with a pitting resistance equivalent (PRE=wt.%Cr+3.3(wt.%Mo+0.5wt.%W)+30wt.%N) of above 50. However, when HDSS is welded with gas tungsten arc (GTA), incorporation of nitrogen in the Ar shielding gas are very important because the volume fraction of ${\alpha}$-phase and ${\gamma}$-phase is changed and harmful secondary phases can be formed in the welded zone. In other words, the balance of corrosion resistance between two phases and reduction of $Cr_2N$ are the key points of this study. The primary results of this study are as follows. The addition of $N_2$ to the Ar shielding gas provides phase balance under weld-cooling conditions and increases the transformation temperature of the ${\alpha}$-phase to ${\gamma}$-phase, increasing the fraction of ${\gamma}$-phase as well as decreasing the precipitation of $Cr_2N$. In the anodic polarization test, the addition of nitrogen gas in the Ar shielding gas improved values of the electrochemical parameters, compared to the Pure Ar. Also, in the erosion-corrosion test, the HDSS welded with shielding gas containing $N_2$ decreased the weight loss, compared to HDSS welded with the Ar pure gas. This result showed the resistance of erosion-corrosion was increased due to increasing the fraction of ${\gamma}$-phase and the stability of passive film according to the addition $N_2$ gas to the Ar shielding gas. As a result, the addition of nitrogen gas to the shielding gas improved the resistance of erosion-corrosion.
Termites cause massive damage to wooden architectural heritage structures. Chemical treatments have been commonly used to control them. In foreign countries, physical barriers made of sheet and particles impenetrable to termite are being used as an alternative to the chemical method. To study the efficacy of physical barriers, we investigated the appropriate sand particle size that can prevent the penetration of R. speratus kyushuensis. Upon evaluating the barrier properties of sand with particle sizes ranging from 0.85 to 4.00 mm, the penetration of termites was found to be effectively blocked at a particle size range of 1.00 to 2.80 mm. At smaller particle sizes, termites managed to move the sand particles and build an almost linear mud tube to penetrate the sand layer. At larger particle sizes, the termites could penetrate the sand layer by passing through the sand gaps.
A kind of accordion-web RBS connection, "Tubular Web RBS (TW-RBS)" connection is proposed in this research. TW-RBS is made by replacing a part of web with a tube at the desirable location of the beam plastic hinge. This paper presents first a numerical study under cyclic load using ABAQUS finite element software. A test specimen is used for calibration and comparison of numerical results. Obtained results indicated that TW-RBS would reduce contribution of the beam web to the whole moment strength and creates a ductile fuse far from components of the beam-to-column connection. Besides, TW-RBS connection can increase story drift capacity up to 9% in the case of shallow beams which is much more than those stipulated by the current seismic codes. Furthermore, the tubular web like corrugated sheet can improve both the out-of-plane stiffness of the beam longitudinal axis and the flange stability condition due to the smaller width to thickness ratio of the beam flange in the plastic hinge region. Thus, the tubular web in the plastic hinge region improves lateral-torsional buckling stability of the beam as just local buckling of the beam flange at the center of the reduced section was observed during the tests. Also change of direction of strain in arc shape of the tubular web section is smaller than the accordion webs with sharp corners therefore the tubular web provides a better condition in terms of low-cycle fatigue than other accordion web with sharp corners.

Twin-fluid atomization has been widely used in combustors and process industries because of its high performance and simple structure. Flow visualization and pressure measurements were conducted to investigate the effects of gas flow in twin-fluid atomization. Schlieren photographs showed that changes in atomizing gas pressure, altered the wave patterns, and the lengths of both recitrculating toroid (impinging stangnation point) nad supersonic flow region in the jet. A longer supersonic wave pattern like net-shape wqas observed as atomizing gas pressure increased. The disintegration phenomenon of liquid delivery tube. The variation of spray angles with gas pressures were obtained by visualization using laser sheet beam. Suction pressuresat the nozzle orifice exit and recirculating region are shown to be used to estimate the stable atomization condition of a twin-fluid atomizer.
This paper presents the experimental results of behavior of square CFT columns with large the width-ro thickness ratio strengthened with carbon fiber reinforced polymers (CFRP) sheets subjected to concentrated axial loading. The main parameters were b/t ratio and the number of CFRP layers and 6 specimens were fabricated. The values of b/t were ranged from 60 to 100. From the tests, Maximum increase of 16% was also achieved in axial-load capacity with three transverse layered CFRP applied on four sides of steel tubes. The load capacity decreased up to 41% comparing with nominal load capacity of unstrengthened CFT column. However, for CFRP strengthened CFT, the load capacity decreased up to 32%. Finally, from the load-strain relationships, the local buckling occurred before yield point of steel tubes. Also, from the load-strain relationships, it was observed that local buckling were delayed on CFT columns by CFRP sheets retrofitting.
This study presented the strength of the materials and parts for smart distribution board fabrication, and developed a work operation process chart for smart distribution board fabrication. This work operation process chart for smart distribution board fabrication complied with SPS-KEMC regulations, and the applicable range and object are less than 1,000 V and 1,000 Hz for the AC distribution board and less than 1,500 V for the DC distribution board. The power supply is 3 phase 4 wires ($3{\Phi}$ 4W), divided into a single phase circuit and a 3 phase circuit. In addition, the circuit was configured so that the leakage current flowing through the distribution line of the load could be monitored in real time by using the sensor module installed at the rear end of the circuit breaker. Therefore, the administrator can easily find the risk factor of the load since engineer can check the leakage current of each distribution line. In addition, if a leakage current greater than standard value flows, it is possible to generate an alarm against a short circuit and cut off the leakage current. The work operation process chart for the smart distribution board fabrication consists of the following steps: raw and subsidiary materials, sheet metal work, tube making, welding, painting, busbar fabrication, assembly and wiring, product inspection, shipment, etc. Moreover, symbols, ${\Delta}$, ${\nabla}$, ${\bigcirc}$, ${\Rightarrow}$, etc. were used according to the type of work and work progress so that workers can easily understand the progress of the work.

Background Packing after closed reduction of a nasal bone fracture causes inconvenient nasal obstruction in patients. We packed the superior meatus with Vaseline gauze to support the nasal bone, and packed the middle nasal meatus with a Doyle Combo Splint consisting of an airway tube, a silastic sheet, and an expandable sponge to reduce the inconvenience. In addition, we aimed to objectively identify whether this method not only enables nasal respiration but also sufficiently supports the reduced nasal bone. Methods Nasal ventilation was measured via spirometry 1 day before surgery and compared to 1 day after surgery. To compare support of the reduced nasal bone by the 2 methods, 2 plastic surgeons assessed the displacementon X-rays taken after the surgery and after removing the packing. The extent of nasal obstruction, dry mouth, sleep disturbance, headache, and swallowing difficulty were compared with visual analog scales (VAS) on a pre-discharge survey. Results In the experimental group, the nasal respiration volume 1 day after surgery remained at $71.3%{\pm}6.84%$ on average compared to 1 day prior to surgery. Support of the reduced bone in the experimental group ($2.80{\pm}0.4$) was not significantly different from the control group ($2.88{\pm}0.33$). The VAS scores for all survey items were lower in the experimental group than in the control group, where a lower score indicated a lower level of inconvenience. Conclusions The nasal cavity packing described here maintained objective measures of nasal respiration and supported the reduced bone similar to conventional methods. Maintaining nasal respiration reduced the inconvenience to patients, which demonstrates that this packing method is useful.
