  • The static analysis of spinning functionally graded (FG) nanotube on the basis of the nonlocal strain gradient theory (NSGT) is presented. The high-order beam theory is employed for mathematical modeling of the tube structures according to the Sinusoidal shear deformation beam theory. The energy conservation principle is operated to generate the equations. The centrifugal force is assumed along the tube length due to the rotating of the tube, moreover, the nanotube is made of functionally graded material (FGM) composed of ceramic and metal phases along the tube radius direction. The generalized differential quadratic method (GDQM) is utilized to solve the formulations. Finally, the numerical results are discussed in detail to examine the impact of different relevant parameters on the bending the buckling behavior of the rotating nanotube.

  • Studies for tube spin forming have been implemented restrictively compared to spinning process, because of the complex of deformation mechanism. Especially there were not many studies by using FEM(Finite Element Method) for overcoming restriction of upper bound method. In this paper, the tube spinning process is analyzed to produce cylindrical body made by titanium alloy. In analysis, processing parameters was obtained by using upper bound method to consider material properties of titanium alloy and finite element analysis was implemented to investigate the flatness and the elongation of the titanium alloy workpiece by using ABAQUS code. The independent variables are ; material properties of workpiece, angles of roller, reduction of diameter. Three variables, two angles of roller and reduction of diameter are optimized by using the upper bound method. In this method, we can estimate the workable power, working force and reduction of diameter, and also the flatness and the elongation of workpiece by the finite elements analysis using ABAQUS/standard. The results indicates that these variables play a critical factors of spinning process for the titanium alloy and the optimum values of these variables.

  • The aerodynamic forces and wake structures of the non-rotating downstream cylinder which is located behind the spinning upstream cylinder in tandem and staggered arrangement have been investigated by experimental method at Re= $1.32{\times}10^4$. The measurements of wake flow and pressure distributions of downstream cylinder are carried out in various spin parameters by combination of both longitudinal spacing rations L/d=1.5, 3.0, 4.5 and transverse spacing ratios T/d =0.0, -0.5, 0.5. For the present experiment, it has been found that the spin parameter of spinning upstream cylinder affect more easily the downstream cylinder in tandem arrangement than that in staggered arrangement.

  • An accumulator placed on the refrigerant cycle pipe lines is a part to relax fluctuations of pressure within the pipe lines and stabilize refrigerants flowed into pipe. The accumulator has been mainly manufactured by the process of tube spinning using CNC(Computer Numerical Control) lathe. However, this process has the defects which are low productivity per hour and high cost. For that reason, tube end-forming using roll die is actively being developed, recently. The purpose of this study is to develope the tube end-forming process using roll die in order to manufacture the accumulator for the refrigeration pipe lines. First, the process design of tube end-forming was performed based on specification of product, and then was verified with FE analysis. Also, the effects of friction coefficient and revolution speed of roll die on forming load were investigated. The analytical results were applied in the final process design of tube end-forming. Finally, tube end-forming test was carried out to verify the validity of the FE analysis and the process design.

  • Three dimensional structures of detonation waves propagating in a square tube were investigated using a high resolution CFD code coupled with a conservation equation of reaction progress variable and an one-step irreversible reaction. The code were parallelized based on domain decomposition technique using MPI library. The computations were carried on an in-house Windows cluster with AMD processors. Three-dimensional unsteady analysis results in the smoked-foil records caused by the instabilities of the detonation waves, which showed the rectangular and diagonal modes of detonation instabilities depending on the initial condition of disturbances and the spinning detonation for case of small reaction constant.

  • Undesirable convective flow in an NMR tube inhibits the accurate measurement of diffusion coefficients by NMR spectroscopy. To minimize the convection effects, various methods have been suggested, and it has been known that the use of sample rotation can be useful. However, it has not been clearly examined that the convection suppressing effect of the sample rotation under the different spinning speeds. In this study, the relation between convective flow and the sample rotation was investigated using PGSE NMR diffusion experiments to reveal the feasibility for controlling the convective flow in an NMR tube by sample rotation itself. The viscosity effect was also examined using solvents with four different viscosities, acetone-$d_6$ chloroform-d, pyridine-$d_5$, and $D_2O$. The sample rotation showed apparent convection suppressing effects at all temperature range for the low viscosity solvents, acetone-$d_6$ and chloroform-d, even at the faster than 5 Hz spinning rate. The similar patterns were also observed for pyridine-$d_5$ and $D_2O$, which have higher viscosity. This effect was observed even at high temperatures where convective flow arises conspicuously.

  • In the dry-jet-wet-spinning process of a hollow fiber membrane, the polymer solution is pumped into a coaxial tube, jet spinneret. The threadline emerging from the spinneret is stabilized by an internal coagulating medium(liquid or gas) as it emerges from the jet orifice. The nascent hollow thread is further stabilized in a quench bath as shown in Fig. 1. In this scheme, three mechanism of formatiota(temperature gradient, solvent evaporation, and solvent-nonsotvent exchange) can be combined. The changes which promote stabilization often play a dominant role in determining the ultimate fiber wall structure as well. Hence, in pratice, hollow fiber stabilization and development of membrane structure are commonly inseparable. However, fiber dimension(the inside diameter and wall thickness of the hollow fiber) is mainly a rheological problem and is determined by dope pumping rate, spinneret diatance from the coagulation bath, inner coagulant flow rate, and fiber draw-rate. Besides rheological phenomena play a prominent part in the final properties of the hollow fiber.

  • The dome and neck part of a vessel is generally formed by a hot spinning process with a seamless tube. However, as studies on and design data from the hot spinning process are insufficient, this process has been performed based on trial and error and the experiences of field engineers. Changes in the inner diameter from the bottom to the top of the neck have occurred mainly because of the characteristics of the hot spinning process due to the high-speed rotation of the rollers. In this study, a theoretical and finite element analysis of the vessel is conducted with different material(Cr-13)-supplemented screw threads for tapping and to reduce shape errors. Based on the results, tne structural safety under the operating conditions is evaluated.

  • The ultrastructure and silk formational process of the flagelliform glands, one of the capture thread producing organs in the orb web spider (Nephila clavata L. Koch), have been studied with electron microscope. A pair of flagelliform glands consist of three distinct regions: excretory duct, storage sac and convoluted tail. This gland is connected to the large spinning tube (spigot) of the posterior spinnerets with two pairs of aggregate glands, and showed a characteristic spigot structure called "triad". The excretory duct consists of three long segments surrounded by the same sheath of connective tissue. The distal duct near the spinning tube bears the electron lucent subcuticles which have the functions of water removal and orientation of the silk fiber, whereas the proximal duct near the sac contains the cuticule precursor transported through the intercellular space. Cytoplasms of the sac and tail regions have well developed rough endoplasmic reticulum and contain the round secretory granules commonly, but the electron densities and internal textures of the granules do not coincided. Adjacent epithelial cells are connected with the specialized septate junctions, and secretory granules accumulated at the apical pole are released to the lumen by the apocrine secretion.secretion.
