  • The current text based XML document systems are editing text and don't perform syntax check. As a result, the validity of an edited XML document can't be decided it is well-formed or valid until it is parsed. This paper describes a design and implementation of the syntax-directed editing system for XML documents. Because this is tree-based system, it is easy to extend XML document. And this system is designed to validate XML documents in real-time, It is expected that this paper contributes XML related application developments.

  • XML is being accepted as a standard for the next generation web documents, as it enables to extend the document structures. However, general users have difficulties in writing valid and well-formed XML documents, since the documents should satisfy the grammatical constraints of XML. In this paper, we present a syntax-directed XML document editor which will ease users in writing valid XML documents. The editor will help users, and increase productivity in writing XML documents.

  • Existing XML editors, which are usually tree-based, require knowledge on the XML from users. But this requirement should be removed in order for any user to create XML documents easily. In this paper, we developed a new XML editor which provides both the usual tree-based interface and the form-based interface derided from the original document. Editing XML documents through forms will be especially effective in the places such as enterprise or municipal office where a large amount of documents of same format need to be generated. Forms, which are HTML documents, are generated automatically through the XSLT using both template XML document and XSL document, and displayed on the built-in HTML browser. When a form is filled out by user, it will he transformed into its corresponding XML document and stored into the XML repository.

  • This paper describes a design and implementation of the tree-based document editing system for XML application, available at the structure-oriented environment. This system converts DTD to ASTD( Syntax Tree Definition) to support syntax-directed editing for valid document, considers the extensibility to add new tools and supports multiple entry parser for real-time document validation. It is expected that this paper contributes related XML application document editing system development model.

  • Purpose: This study was performed to develop the electronic textbook (CD-rom title) about preclinical practice of oral and maxillofacial radiology, using multimedia technology with interactive environment. Materials and Methods: After comparing the three authoring methods of multimedia, i.e. programming language, multimedia authoring tool and web authoring tool, we determined the web authoring tool as an authoring method of our electronic textbook. Intel Pentium II 350 MHz IBM-compatible personal computer with 128 Megabyte RAM, Umax Powerlook flatbed scanner with transparency unit, Olympus Camedia l400L digital camera, ESS 1686 sound card, Sony 8 mm Handycam, PC Vision 97 pro capture board, Namo web editor 3.0, Photoshop 3.0, ThumbNailer, RealPlayer 7 basic and RealProducer G2 were used for creating the text document, diagram, figure, X-ray image, video and sound files. We made use of javascripts for tree menu structure, moving text bar, link button and spread list menu and image map etc. After creating all files and hyperlinking them, we burned out the CD-rom title with all of the above multimedia data, Netscape communicator and plug in program as a prototype. Results and Conclusions : We developed the dental radiology electronic textbook which has 9 chapters and consists of 155 text documents, 26 figures, 150 X-ray image files, 20 video files, 20 sound files and 50 questions with answers. We expect that this CD-rom title can be used at the intranet and internet environments and continuous updates will be performed easily.
