Modification of isotropic coal-tar pitch by acid treatments for carbon fiber melt-spinning

  • In this work, thermal treatment accompanied with different acid treatments was applied to a commercial coal tar pitch (CTP) to obtain a spinnable precursor pitch for carbon fiber. In the case of thermal treatment only, a relatively high reaction temperature of between $380^{\circ}C$ and $400^{\circ}C$ was required to obtain a softening point (SP) range of $220^{\circ}C-260^{\circ}C$ and many meso-phase particles were created during the application of high reaction temperature. When nitric acid or sulfuric acid treatment was conducted before the thermal treatment, the precursor pitch with a proper SP range could be obtained at reaction temperatures of $280^{\circ}C-300^{\circ}C$, which were about $100^{\circ}C$ lower than those for the case of thermal treatment only. With the acid treatments, the yield and SP of the precursor pitch increased dramatically and the formation of meso-phase was suppressed due to the lower reaction temperatures. Since the precursor pitches with acid and thermal treatment were not spinnable due to the inhomogeneity of properties such as molecular weight distribution and viscosity, the CTP was mixed with ethanol before the consecutive nitric acid and thermal treatments. The precursor pitches with ethanol, nitric acid, and thermal treatments were easily spinnable, and their spinning and carbon fiber properties were compared to those of air blowing and thermal treated CTP.

알칼리 용융 및 수열 합성에 의한 석탄회로부터 제올라이트 A의 합성 (Synthesis of zeolite A from coal fly ash by alkali fusion followed by hydrothermal treatment)

  • 석탄회를 NaOH로 용융시킨 후 수열 처리에 의하여 제올라이트 A를 합성하였다. NaOH/석탄회의 비, 용융 온도, $NaAlO_2$의 첨가량, 수열 처리 온도 및 시간이 생성된 제올라이트의 종류와 결정도에 미치는 영향에 대하여 연구하였다. 결정도가 높은 제올라이트의 생성에 필요한 최적의 NaOH/석탄회의 중량비는 1.2, 최적의 용융 온도는 $550^{\circ}C$이었다. 용융된 석탄회로부터 $Si^{4+}$$Al^{3+}$의 용출은 교반 시간의 영향을 받지 않았다. 생성된 제올라이트의 형태는 첨가한 $NaAlO_2$의 영향을 받는 것으로 나타났다. 적은 양의 $NaAlO_2$를 첨가하면 제올라이트 X가 생성되나 $NaAlO_2$의 양이 증가하면 단일상의 제올라이트 A가 생성되었다. 수열처리 시간과 온도가 증가하면 제올라이트 A는 hydroxysodalite로 변화 하였다. 승온 속도를 낮춰 반응 온도까지의 도달시간을 증가시키면 결정도가 좋은 제올라이트 A를 얻을 수 있었다.

성토재로서 석탄회의 안정제 혼합 효과에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Admixture Stabilization of Domestic Coal Ashes as the Fill Material)

  • 최근 우리 나라의 경우 산업 발달과 함께 급속히 증가하는 전력 수요에 따라 화력발전소에서 발생되는 산업 부산물인 석탄회 처리 문제가 심각하게 대두되고 있다. 따라서 산업 부산물을 재활용하는 차원에서 석탄회를 성토재로 활용하기 위한 공학적 성질 개선 방안으로 안정제 혼합 효과를 구명하기 위하여 삼천포, 서천 화력 발전소에서 부산되는 석탄회 시료에 대해 시멘트와 석회를 안정제로 사용하여 석탄회의 혼합률, 장기 재령, 양생 온도 변화에 따른 강도 특성을 살펴보았으며, 동결융해시험, 압밀시험 그리고 투수 시험에 따른 내구성 증대, 압축성 및 투수성 감소특성을 검토 하였다. 연구 결과 매립회(coal ash)는 각종 성토 재료로 사용이 가능한 것으로 나타났으며, 특히 비회 (fly ash)는 2~3% 정도의 시멘트를 첨가함으로써 양호한 성토재로 사용할 수 있는 것으로 나타났고 동결 융해가 우려되고 지역에 성토재로 석탄회를 활용할 경우는 안정제를 6-9% 정도 적절히 혼합하여 사용하는 것이 효율적임을 알 수 있었다.

WO3 피복 석탄회의 광촉매 특성에 미치는 TiO2의 첨가 효과 (Effect of Adding WO3 on Photocatalytic Property of TiO2 Coated Coal Fly Ash)

  • To improve the photocatalyticactivity of $TiO_2$-coated coal fly ash, tungsten hydroxide was doped by impregnation method and was oxidized by heat treatment in temperature ranges of $WO^{\circ}C$ for 2 hrs. The changes of crystal structure and crystal size of $TiO_2$and $WO_3$on coal fly ash were investigated by X-ray diffraction analysis. The crystal structure of titanium dioxide showed only anatase type and $TiO_2$-$WO_3$ compounds appeared in the heat treatment temperature ranges of $500∼600^{\circ}C$. By adding $V_3$in $TiO_2$coated on fly ash, the growth of crystal size of anatase was restrained and the anatase phase was stabilized in temperature ranges of TEX>$500∼<800^{\circ}C$. And $WO_3$acted as a trap site of electrons excited from anatase by irradiating UV. The maximum removal efficiency of NO gas for $TiO_2$/$WO_3$-coated coal fly ash was 84% and appeared when the ammonium tungstate of $1.3${\times}$10^{-3}$ M was doped and then heated at $600^{\circ}C$ for 2 hrs.

Effects of Coal Fly Ash as a Bulking Agent under Co-composting with Swine Manure and Saw Dust

  • The coal fly ash (CFA) may be utilized as an extender for organic waste composting at the same time fully expected to solve all industrial waste disposal and sawdust tribe. The main objective in this study was to evaluate the effect of CFA addition as a bulking agent for swine manure composting. To determine the suitable addition rate of CFA as a bulking agent, 0, 10, 20 and 30% of saw dust were mixed with 30, 20, 10 and 0% of coal fly ash, respectively. Compost quality for swine manure composting was to evaluate temperature, pH, C/N ratio, and phytotoxicity as germination index. Stability of compost increased with increasing levels of CFA as bulking agent during swine manure composting due to the high alkaline materials including CFA. C to N ratio in treatment added CFA was higher than that of the control without CFA. After finishing composting, germination index of lettuce and cabbage in swine manure compost added 10% of CFA was similar to the control, all the heavy metal contents were far below the stipulated standard for organic farming. These results indicated tahr coal fly ash as bulking agents might be alternative materials to save saw dust and apply industrial products for swine manure composting.

$TiO_2$ 피복 석탄회의 제조와 광촉매 특성에 관한 연구 (Preparation of $TiO_2$ Coated Coal Fly Ash and Photocatalytic Characterization)

  • 저가형 $TiO_2$ 광촉매의 개발과 광촉매의 활용범위를 확대하고자, 석탄회를 지지체로 이용하여 $TiO_2$ 광촉매를 제조하였다. 석탄회 표면에 $TiO_2$ 입자의 피복은 침전법에 의해서 수행되었다. $TiO_2$의 공급원으로는$ TiCl_4$수용액과 침전제로는 $NH_4$$HCO_3$가 사용되었다. 이들의 중화반응에 의해 석탄회 표면에 생성되는 Ti(OH)4$_4$$300~700^{\circ}C$의 열처리 과정에서 산화되었다. 여기서 생성된 $TiO_2$의 결정구조는 anatase형을 나타내었다. 피복 $TiO_2$의 결정립 크기는 열처리 온도의 상승에 따라 증가하였으나, NO가스의 제거능은 감소하는 경향을 보였다. $TiO_2$피복 석탄회를 $300~400^{\circ}C$의 온도 범위에서 2시간 동안 열처리할 경우, $TiO_2$의 결정립 크기는 약 9nm이었고, 질소산화물 제거율은 85~92%이었다. 또한, $TiO_2$피복 석탄회의 백색도는 $TiO_2$의 피복량이 증가할수록 열처리 온도가 증가할수록 상승하는 경향을 나타내었다.

KEPCO-China Huaneng Post-combustion CO2 Capture Pilot Test and Cost Evaluation

  • The proprietary post-combustion CO2 solvent (KoSol) developed by the Korea Electric Power Research Institute (KEPRI) was applied at the Shanghai Shidongkou CO2 Capture Pilot Plant (China Huaneng CERI, capacity: 120,000 ton CO2/yr) of the China Huaneng Group (CHNG) for performance evaluation. The key results of the pilot test and data on the South Korean/Chinese electric power market were used to calculate the predicted cost of CO2 avoided upon deployment of CO2 capture technology in commercial-scale coal-fired power plants. Sensitivity analysis was performed for the key factors. It is estimated that, in the case of South Korea, the calculated cost of CO2 avoided for an 960 MW ultra-supercritical (USC) coal-fired power plant is approximately 35~44 USD/tCO2 (excluding CO2 transportation and storage costs). Conversely, applying the same technology to a 1,000 MW USC coal-fired power plant in Shanghai, China, results in a slightly lower cost (32~42 USD/tCO2). This study confirms the importance of international cooperation that takes into consideration the geographical locations and the performance of CO2 capture technology for the involved countries in the process of advancing the economic efficiency of large-scale CCS technology aimed to reduce greenhouse gases

초초임계 석탄발전 보일러 튜브(SA213 TP347H) 용접부 안정화 열처리 효과 (Effect on the Stabilizing Heat Treatment to Weld Joint for the USC Coal Boiler Tubes(SA213 TP347H))

  • Austenite stainless steel(SA213-TP347H) has widely been used for the superheater & reheater tube in USC(ultra-supercritica) coal boiler because of its high creep rupture strength and anti-oxidation. But recently, the short-term failures have happened frequently in heat affected zone for only 4,000~15,000hours of service. Many investigations have been conducted to understand the failure mechanism. The root cause of failure was comfirmed to "strain induce participation hardening crack" or "reheat cracking". This mechanism often occurred due to weld residual stress and precipitation of the Cr, Nb carbides in the stabilized stainless steel such as TP347H. This paper presents an analysis of failure tube and effect of the sample tubes that conducting stabilizing heat treatment in site after 11,380hours & 16,961hours of service. Visual inspection was performed. In addition, microscopic characteristics was identified by O.M, SEM, and hardness test was carried out to find out the heat treatment effects. Failures seem to happen because of being not conducted stabilizing heat treatment in site. And another cause is inadequate weld parameter such as pass, ampere, voltage, inter-pass temperature. Thus, this paper has the purpose to describe that how to prevent similar failures in those weld-joints.

국내 폐 광산 환경오염 실태 및 처리 현황 (Environmental Pollution and Reclamation in the Abandoned Mines in Korea)

  • 국내 폐석탄 광산은 334 개, 폐금속 광산은 약 900 여개로 알려져 있다. 이러한 폐광산에서는 환경오염과 지반침하 등 안전문제가 발생하고 있다. 폐광산에서 환경오염은 주로 폐갱도, 채굴적 그리고 광산폐기물 적치장에서 유출되는 산성광산배수 문제와 중금속이 함유된 광산폐기물의 침식 및 유실로 인한 주변 토양오염 등을 들 수 있다. 폐석탄 광산 및 폐금속 광산의 갱내수를 조사 분석한 결과, 일부 폐광산 갱내수들은 산성수이며 금속성분이 고농도로 함유된 폐수로 나타나고 폐탄광 배수의 수질은 지역적으로 차이가 있다. 폐광산배수의 정화는 물리화학적 처리시 막대한 운영비가 소요되므로 폐갱도 석회석 충전과 소택지 등 자연정화처리법으로 처리되고 있다. 현재 폐금속 광산 폐기물은 환경오염 방지를 위해 주로 매립법으로 복구되고 있다.

Stability analysis of settled goaf with two-layer coal seams under building load-A case study in China

  • Through qualitative analysis and quantitative analysis, the contradictory conclusions about the stability of the settled goaf with two-layer coal seams subject to building load were obtained. Therefore, it is necessary to combine the additional stress method and numerical simulation to further analyze the foundation stability. Through borehole analysis and empirical formula analogy, the height of water-conducting fracture zone in No.4 coal and No.9 coal were obtained, providing the calculation range of water-conducting fracture zone for numerical simulation. To ensure the accuracy of the elastic modulus of broken gangue, the stress-strain curve were obtained by broken gangue compression test in dried state of No.4 coal seam and in soaking state of No.9 coal seam. To ensure the rationality of the numerical simulation results, the actual measured subsidence data were retrieved by numerical simulation. FISH language was used to analyze the maximum building load on the surface and determine the influence depth of building load on the foundation. The critical building load was 0.16 MPa of No.4 settled goaf and was 1.6 MPa of No.9 settled goaf. The additional stress affected the water-conducting fracture zone obviously, resulted in the subsidence of water-conducting fracture zone was greater than that of bending subsidence zone. In this paper, the additional stress method was analyzed by numerical simulation method, which can provide a new analysis method for the treatment and utilization of the settled goaf.
