This study investigated the effects of the cognitive acceleration program devised for accelerating the development of formal reasoning ability of students. ‘Thinking Science’ activities developed by the Cognitive Acceleration through Science Education(CASE) project were implemented to 420 students in 5th grade aged 10+ in four elementary schools over a period of two yea. Homogeneity between the experimental group and control group was tested with SRT II, and the improvement of formal reasoning ability of the students was tested with SRT III. The results were analyzed by treatment, gender, and cognitive levels of the students. Statistically significant gains were shown in the CASE group compared with those in the control group. Cognitive level of girls in the CASE group increased as compared with the control group, while there was moderate effect in boys for the primary school. These results implied that the thinking science activities were effective in cognitive acceleration of girls aged 10+. It was shown that much more CASE students in concrete operational level shifted to formal operational level as compared with the control group while there were no significant effects in the other levels for primary school.
TiO$_2$anchored on a porous clay ceramic support (PCS) for use in lightweight photocatalyst were synthesized by the dropping precipitant method. A PCS of macro and micro pore size of around several mm~${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ in diameter were prepared by the rapid heat treatment at, 1,15$0^{\circ}C$ for 10 min from low grade of clay. The change in pH of reaction solution due to the different addition rate of NH$_4$HCO$_3$as a precipitant, the reaction temperature and the concentration of TiCl$_4$had a pronounced effect on the nature of precipitated TiO$_2$particles on the surface of a PCS and the crystal structure of precipitated TiO$_2$particles. At an addition rate of 0.8 ml/min of NH$_4$HCO$_3$and pH=6 of reaction solution, homogeneous precipitation of TiO$_2$particles on a PCS was achieved. TiO$_2$particles with anatase phase was precipitated on the surface of a PCS at the low concentration of TiCl$_4$, the high addition rate of NH$_4$HCO$_3$and the high reaction temperature.
PURPOSE. The objective of this study was to conduct an in vitro comparative evaluation of polished and laser-dimpled titanium (Ti) surfaces to determine whether either surface has an advantage in promoting the attachment of epithelial-like cells and fibroblast to Ti. MATERIALS AND METHODS. Forty-eight coin-shaped samples of commercially pure, grade 4 Ti plates were used in this study. These discs were cleaned to a surface roughness (Ra: roughness centerline average) of 180 nm by polishing and were divided into three groups: SM (n=16) had no dimples and served as the control, SM15 (n=16) had $5-{\mu}m$ dimples at $10-{\mu}m$ intervals, and SM30 (n=16) had $5-{\mu}m$ dimples at $25-{\mu}m$ intervals in a $2{\times}4mm^2$ area at the center of the disc. Human gingival squamous cell carcinoma cells (YD-38) and human lung fibroblasts (MRC-5) were cultured and used in cell proliferation assays, adhesion assays, immunofluorescent staining of adhesion proteins, and morphological analysis by SEM. The data were analyzed statistically to determine the significance of differences. RESULTS. The adhesion strength of epithelial cells was higher on Ti surfaces with $5-{\mu}m$ laser dimples than on polished Ti surfaces, while the adhesion of fibroblasts was not significantly changed by laser treatment of implant surfaces. However, epithelial cells and fibroblasts around the laser dimples appeared larger and showed increased expression of adhesion proteins. CONCLUSION. These findings demonstrate that laser dimpling may contribute to improving the peri-implant soft tissue barrier. This study provided helpful information for developing the transmucosal surface of the abutment.

The clinical data and thermographic imaging were analyzed on the 100 cases of Bell's palsy who were treated in the Kwang-Ju Oriental Medical Hospita! of Wonkwang University from February to October 1997. All the cases were taken Digital Infrared Thermograph Imaging(DITI) before treatment and 30 cases of them were taken follow up imaging again after recovery. And the following results were obtained. 1. Of 100 cases, under teenager occupied $1\%,\;teenager\;8\%,\;2nd\;decade\;14\%,\;3rd\;decade\;11\%,\;4th\;decade\;16\%,\;5th\;decade\;26\%,\;6th\;decade\;16\%,\;7th\;decade\;7\%\;and\;over\;80\;occupied\;1\%$. 2. Male occupied $48\%$ and female occupied $52\%$. 3. $42\%\;of\;male\;and\;23\%$ of female had the affected side at left side. And right facial nerve palsy occured at $29\%\;of\;male\;and\;29\%$ of female. 4. The most common cause of Bell's palsy was cold wind $18\%$, and the next were excessive labor $15\%,\;stress\;12\%,drinking\;2\%\;and\;cold\;food\;1\%$. 5. Thermal pattern were present as hyperthermal pattern in $44\%$ and hypothermal pattern in $22\%$. 6. The DITI showed hyperthermal pattern as close as to the onset day and changes to hypothermal pattern as times passed. 7. The DITI pattern and post-auricular pain, the most common prodomal syndrome, showed no significant relationship. 8. The relationship between the grade of paralysis and thermal patttern of DITI showed no significance. 9. Mean temperature of loci in affected side indicrtted $30.27^{\circ}C\;at\;Yang\;baek,\;30.02^{\circ}C\;at\;Taeyang,\;29.25^{\circ}C\;at\;Geoyo,\;29.62^{\circ}C\;at\;Jichang,\;29.78^{\circ}C\;at\;Hakwan,\;29.61^{\circ}C\;at\;Hyupgeo,\;and\;30.59^{\circ}C$at Yeopoong. 10. Mean temperature of loci in unaffected side showed $30.16^{\circ}C\;at\;Yang\;baek,\;30.02^{\circ}C\;at\;Taeyang,\;29.61^{\circ}C\;at\;Geoyo,\;29.68^{\circ}C\;at\;Jichang,\;29.70^{\circ}C\;at\;Hakwan,\;29.57^{\circ}C\;at\;Hyupgeo,\;and\;29.89^{\circ}C$at Yeopoong. 11. Of 30 cases who were taken follow up imaging again after recovery, the relationship between delta T at loci and symptoms showed no significance. It should be needed further investigation in order to apply them for clinical evaluation.
The marble-type dolomite from the Jasung Mine, which was farmed by duplicated affects of contact metamorphism and subsequent hydrothermal alteration, corresponds to a high-purity dolomite ranging up to above 98wt.% in dolomite contents. The dolomite contain minor impurities such as quartz, muscovite, and pyrite. It is characteristic that the dolomite is fairy Fe-rich corresponding to 0.4 wt.% due to the presence of pyrite of possible hydrothermal origin. The dolomite is nearly white-colored and constituting with subhedral crystals ranging $0.35{\sim}0.46mm$M in size, forming equigranular texture. Compared to the typical high-Ca limestone from the Pungchon Formation, the powder characteristics of dolomite is rather superior in milling efficiency, yields of fine particles, and size distribution. In addition, except for iron contents, the dolomite powder is no less superior than the limestone in quality and characteristics as fillers with respects to not only whiteness, oil absorption, and specific surface area but also shape characters such as elongation ratio, aspect ratio, and sphericity. This good characteristics of dolomite powder seem to be originated basically from comparatively higher grade and crystallinity of dolomite. Higher iron contents and the presence of sulfides prevents the dolomite from application for uses by thermal treatment, except for metallic manufacture. However, if proper ore separation procedure is available, the dolomite can be sufficiently utilized as substitutes for high-Ca limestone in most fields of filler industries.
Objectives : In order to identify the awareness of influenza A (H1N1) having currently high frequency and risk as an infectious disease, to find problems and to reflect them on curriculum improvements from students before/after clinical practices. Methods : The data was collected from 279 dental hygiene students of 1st and 2nd years at G health college university from December 6th 2010 to December 10th 2010. The questionnaire were consisted of awareness of influenza A (H1N1), preventive attitude, sociodemographic characteristics. Results : 1. 1st year was 51.6%, the case having dental experience was 51.2%, in the infection control training experience 'had' was 46.6%. In the route acquiring the information, the mass media was 70.6%, in obtained information, personal hygiene was 82.1%. In the impact on human body, 'great impact' was 58.1%. In terms of the most need for response and preparedness, vaccination was the highest, 67.4%. People who experienced influenza A (H1N1) were 10.7%. 2. Awareness of influenza A (H1N1) was 0.71 points, and treatment and spreading mechanism was 0.78 points, prevention was 0.63 points, causes and definition was 0.53 points. 3. In the attitude for infection prevention of influenza A (H1N1), 'washing hands before practice' was the highest, 0.99 points and 'wear the mask only in case of contact with patient within 1~2 meters upon occurrence of no aerosol' was the lowest, 0.72 points. 4. Awareness of influenza A (H1N1) according to sociodemographic characteristics showed the significant differences upon the impacts on systemic health (p<0.05). Preventive attitude didn't show a significant difference in grade, clinical experience, experience in infection control training, acquiring rmation routes, the possibility for occurrence, impact on systemic health, the most need for prevention, experience in influenza A (H1N1) (p>0.05). 5. The significantly correlated between awareness of influenza A (H1N1) and preventive attitude(p<0.01). Conclusions : Information and preventive attitude for influenza A (H1N1) as well as systematic training programs to identify actual affecting factors and to improve the practice are needed. Also government's institutional support is needed.

The purpose of this study is to analyze the effectiveness of horticultural therapy on children from broken homes: this treatment program, implemented in the social welfare field, targets the children's depression, self-esteem, and social and emotional stress. Its object was composed of 13 lower grade students enrolled in special facilities according to the life-cycle method, and its data were collected as making use of the structured questionnaire. The horticultural Therapy Program was practiced 14 sessions in total from September 2nd to December 16th, 2010, and its results in summary are as follows; The sociality in horticultural therapy was higher by .53 point in 2.76 after practice than in 2.23 before practice, and its value of the ability to cope with stress was higher by 0.52 point in 2.82 after coping with stress than in 2.30 before that. That was meaningful (t=-1.4398, p<.05). The value of anxiety was lower by .15 in 1.45 post-anxiety than in 1.60 pre-anxiety, and that was meaningful (t=-2.3842, p<.05). The value of self-esteem is higher by .42 in 2.92 post-self-esteem than in 2.50 pre-self-esteem, and that was strategically meaningful (t=-1.1871, p<.05). The value of emotional assessment was higher by 2.05 in 5.25 post-emotional assessment than in 3.20 pre-emotional assessment, and that was strategically meaningful (t=-2.4599, p<.05). Based on these results, this study suggests that this horticultural therapy program should apply to the issues of children in social welfare field as one of various approaches.
Purpose: Aquacel Ag$^{(R)}$ is a hydrofiber wound dressing integrated with ionic silver. Sorbact$^{(R)}$ is a hydrophobiccoated dressing that uses the hydrophobic interaction with microbes. In this study, we compared the wound healing effects and the antibacterial effects of Medifoam$^{(R)}$, Betadine soaked, Aquacel Ag$^{(R)}$ and Sorbact$^{(R)}$ dressings against MRSA-infected wounds. Methods: Eighty rats were divided into four groups: Medifoam$^{(R)}$; Betadine soaked; Aquacel Ag$^{(R)}$; and Sorbact$^{(R)}$. A $1.5{\times}1.5cm$ square full-thickness wound was made on the dorsum of each rat and infected with MRSA. Twenty-four hours thereafter, each dressing was applied to the wound and changed every other day. One, 3, 7, 11 and 15 days after the wound infection, swab culture grade, wound bed appearance score, and wound defect size change were evaluated, and 7 and 15 days after, histologic evaluation was compared between the groups. Results: The bacteria load of wounds in the Sorbact$^{(R)}$ group decreased earlier than in the other groups. The wound bed appearance score of the Sorbact$^{(R)}$ group also increased quicker, compared with the other groups. However, the size of wounds of the Aquacel Ag$^{(R)}$ group decreased more rapidly, compared with other groups. From the histologic point of view, there was no significant difference between Betadine soaked, Aquacel Ag$^{(R)}$ and Sorbact groups. Conclusion: The hydrophobic dressing using Sorbact$^{(R)}$ showed a more rapid reduction in the MRSA load and an elevation in the wound bed appearance score, but a slower decrease in wound size change due to detachment of wound bed tissue when the dressing was eliminated in the low exudate wound. The silver-containing hydrofiber dressing using Aquacel Ag$^{(R)}$ was more effective in ultimate wound size reduction, but some debris was trapped in the wound tissue and induced foreign body reaction in the high exudate wound. Thus, ongoing selection process of treatment based on the evaluation of the infectious wound state will be very important.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to explore the dosimetric difference between simultaneous integrated boost intensity-modulated radiotherapy (SIB-IMRT) and three-dimensional conformal radiotherapy (3DCRT), and the clinical outcomes of anal squamous cell carcinoma (ASCC) chemoradiotherapy featuring SIB-IMRT. Materials and Methods: This study included ten patients with ASCC who underwent chemoradiotherapy using SIB-IMRT with 5-fluorouracil and mitomycin C. SIB-IMRT delivered 54 Gy to each primary tumor plus metastatic lymph nodes and 45 Gy to regional lymph nodes, in 30 fractions. Four patients received additional boosts to the primary tumors and metastatic lymph nodes; the median total dose was 54 Gy (range, 54 to 60 Gy). We additionally created 3DCRT plans following the Radiation Therapy Oncology Group 9811 protocol to allow dosimetric comparisons with SIB-IMRT. Locoregional control, overall survival, and toxicity were calculated for the clinical outcome evaluation. Results: Compared to 3DCRT, SIB-IMRT significantly reduced doses to the external genitalia, bladder, and intestine, delivering the doses to target and elective nodal region. At a median follow-up time of 46 months, 3-year locoregional control and overall survival rates were 88.9% and 100%, respectively. Acute toxicities were treated conservatively. All patients completed radiotherapy with brief interruptions (range, 0 to 2 days). No patient experienced ${\geq}grade$ 3 late toxicity during the follow-up period. Conclusion: The dosimetric advantages of SIB-IMRT appeared to reduce the toxicity of chemoradiotherapy for ASCC achieving high locoregional control in the extended period.

We proposed a pyrometallurgical process to achieve gold alloy with an Au content of more than 80wt% from low grade (<35wt%) gold alloys. We performed the heat treatment at a temperature of $1200^{\circ}C$ for 5 hrs using Au35wt%-Ag5wt%-Cu60wt% gold alloys mixed with 1/2 weighed PbO and CaO flux by varying the ratio of PbO/(PbO+CaO) from 0 to 1. We investigated the change in content of the samples with energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDS) and time of flight secondary ion mass spectrometry (ToF-SIMS). The EDS results showed that the Au content increased from 35.0wt% in the PbO-only sample to 86.7wt% (in the PbO/(PbO+CaO) 1:1 sample), while the other samples achieved more that 84wt%. In addition, the 2/3 flux ratio sample showed the lowest Ag loss into the flux. In the ToF-SIMS results, the PbO only and CaO only fluxes had Au+ peak intensities of 349 and 37, respectively. Although the CaO-only flux might be more favorable considering the loss of Au into the flux, we concluded that the amount of Au lost into the flux could be ignored. Our results imply that that the pyrometallurgical process using a mixed flux is an effective hydrometallurgical process.
