Design of high power traveling wave rotary type ultrasonic motor (고 출력 진행파 회전형 초음파 모터의 설계)

  • In this paper, we propose a novel type shaft-less ring type ultrasonic motor. A traveling wave rotary type ultrasonic motor is selected as a base model. The newly designed stator has two piezoelectric ceramic rings which are bonded in sandwich shape as traveling wave generator. So, we can expect to produce higher torque. The proposed model has the rotor structure that coupled with the stator provokes the pressure, this model do not install the separate plate any spring device. We used the finite element method to verify the operation principle and to compute the vibration mode of proposed model.

  • In this paper, we propose a novel type valveless micro-pump that uses extensional vibration mode of traveling wave as a volume transporting means for solving some problems about check valves, essential parts of usual pumps. The proposed pump consists of two piezoelectric ceramic rings and a metal body located in the middle of them respectively. Because the drift of bended surface that results from the traveling wave excitation controls the fluid flow, check valves are not needed in this pump model. In accordance with the variation of the pump body dimension, we analyzed the vibration displacement characteristics of pump model, determined the optimal design condition, fabricated the prototype pump from the analysis results and evaluated its efficiency.

  • In order for a mobile robot to move under unknown or uncertain environment. it is very important to collect environmental information. This paper suggests a traveling algorithm which leads to the map building algorithm and the $A^*$ algorithm under the assumption that environmental information should already be collected. In order to apply the proposed traveling algorithm to a real mobile robot. this paper additionally discusses a path amendment algorithm. For the purpose of verifying the proposed algorithms, several simulations are executed based on a UI host program-based simulation interface and an experiment is executed using a mobile robot under a real unknown environment.

  • In order for a mobile robot to move under unknown or uncertain environment, it must have an environmental information. In collecting environmental information, the mobile robot can use various sensors. In case of using ultrasonic sensors to collect an environmental information, it is able to comprise a low-cost environmental recognition system compared with using other sensors such as vision and laser range-finder. This paper proposes a map building algorithm which can collect environmental information using ultrasonic sensors. And also this paper suggests a traveling algorithm using environmental information which leads to the map building algorithm. In order to accomplish the proposed traveling algorithm, this paper additionally discusses a position revision algorithm.

  • In this paper, we analyze the microwave characteristics of traveling-wave electro-absorption modulator (TW-EAM) considering the microwave feedline and the impedance mismatch. The TW-EAM is analyzed by using the equivalent circuit model. The capacitance and the inductance of the equivalent circuit are evaluated by using 3-dimensional finite difference time domain (FDTD) method, while the microwave feedline is analyzed by momentum method. In a viewpoint of microwave characteristics, we present the effect of the structure and the length of microwave feedline.

  • Friction stir welding and friction stir processing is a new solid state processing technique for ioining and micro..structural modification in metallic materials. It has been applied not only joining for light metals but also modification of the microstructure to enhance mechanical properties. In thin study, we investigated the mechanical properties for applied friction stir welding and processing under various parameters such as probe diameter, probe type, traveling speed and rotating speed for 5456-H116 AI allov. As a result of experiments, optimum condition of friction stir welding is traveling speed of 15mm/min, rotating speed of 500RPM at 6mm diameter probe. Moreover, in the case of friction stir processing, the optimum condition is traveling speed of 15mm/min, rotating speed of 250RPM at full screw probe. As above mentioned, the mechanical characteristics enhanced with the decreasing of traveling speed and the increasing of friction areas because of plastic flow due to high friction heat. These result can be used as reference data for ship repairment.

  • The conventional ultrasonic linear motors developed so far utilize a standing wave and are of a pi-type or a hybrid transducer type structure. Traveling wave type bi-direction linear motors have not been developed yet. This paper describes design of a new bi-directional ultrasonic linear motor working by means of a traveling wave. With the finite element method we design and verify validity of the new structure. And we determine its optimal structure size of design variables material and boundary conditions for proper generation of the traveling wave.

  • In order to evaluate the relative significance of tolerance management of various elements in a VHS VTR tape transport system, the effect of geometric variations of the elements from standard design values on the tape traveling path is studied. The tape is modeled as a string and each element in the tape transport system is modeled as a cylinder whose radius, position vector and orientation vector are specified. An numerical algorithm is proposed to find the coordinates of tape entry points and tape exit points for the elements from which the tape traveling path can be completely described. By using the suggested algorithm, an error sensitivity analysis of tape traveling path due to the geometric variations of tape transport elements is performed for a particular model in the market and the elements demanding relatively strict tolerance management are identified.

Size-dependent thermal behaviors of axially traveling nanobeams based on a strain gradient theory

  • This work is concerned with transverse vibrations of axially traveling nanobeams including strain gradient and thermal effects. The strain gradient elasticity theory and the temperature field are taken into consideration. A new higher-order differential equation of motion is derived from the variational principle and the corresponding higher-order non-classical boundary conditions including simple, clamped, cantilevered supports and their higher-order "offspring" are established. Effects of strain gradient nanoscale parameter, temperature change, shape parameter and axial traction on the natural frequencies are presented and discussed through some numerical examples. It is concluded that the factors mentioned above significantly influence the dynamic behaviors of an axially traveling nanobeam. In particular, the strain gradient effect tends to induce higher vibration frequencies as compared to an axially traveling macro beams based on the classical vibration theory without strain gradient effect.

  • The traveling purchaser problem (TPP) is a generalization of the well-known traveling salesman problem (TSP), which has many real-world applications such as purchasing the required raw materials for the manufacturing factories and the scheduling of a set of jobs over some machines, and many others. In the last decade, TPP has received some attention of the researchers in the operational research area. However, all of the past researches for TPP are restricted on a single purchaser (vehicle). It could be the limitation to solve the real world problem. The purpose of this paper is to suggest the capacitated multiple TPP (CMTPP). It could be used in inbound logistics optimization in supply chain management area and many others. Since TPP is known as NP-hard, we also developed the heuristic algorithm to solve the CMTPP.
