Transverse Flux Linear Machine with High Thrust for Direct Drive Applications

  • This paper describes the development of a novel transverse flux linear motor (TFLM) excited by permanent magnets (PMs). It combines the advantage of two different TFLMs and produces high thrust with reduced normal force. The magnetic field is analyzed by combining the three-dimensional (3D) equivalent magnetic circuit network (EMCN) method with 2D finite element analysis. The experimental findings of the prototype motors are in good agreements with the analysis results, and demonstrate the potential of the proposed motor as a direct drive requiring relatively long displacement of a mover.

Presentation of a Novel E-Core Transverse-Flux Permanent Magnet Linear Motor and Its Magnetic Field Analysis Based on Schwarz-Christoffel Mapping Method

  • In order to overcome the manufacturing difficulty of the transverse-flux permanent magnet linear motor (TFPMLM) and enhance its performance much better, a novel TFPMLM with E-core and 3 dimension (3D) magnetic structures is proposed in this paper. Firstly, its basic structure and operating principle are presented. Then the equivalent 2D configuration of the TFPMLM is transformed, so that the Schwarz-Christoffel (SC) mapping method can be used to analyze the motor. Furthermore, the air gap flux density distribution is solved by SC mapping method, based on which, the EMF waveform, no-load cogging force waveform and load force waveform are obtained. Finally, the prototyped TLPMLM is manufactured and the results are obtained from the experiment and 3D FEM, respectively, which are used to compare with those from SC mapping method.

Influence of Concentric Saddle Shaped Coils on the Behavior of a Permanent Magnet Transverse Flux Machine with Segmented Construction

  • Flux concentrated permanent magnet transverse flux machines, FCPM-TFMs, with segmented stators require multi-turn concentric saddle coils to replace the ring coils, which are normally utilized in conventional layeredphase TFM constructions. In this paper, we investigate the influence of the shape of saddle phase windings and their parameter variations on the output torque productivity. Non-meshed coils evaluated via a finite element method (FEM) to examine the effect of the coil's location within one phase on machine performance. By using meshed coils, the analysis can be extended to inspect the distributions of magnetic field strength as well as current density in the coils. Throughout the study, the influence of design parameters on the output torque for two stator structures, i.e., a laminated and soft magnetic composite (SMC), are evaluated.

Non-propagating Surface Modes in Dual Singly Negative Material Layers

  • We investigate the characteristics of the surface mode formed at the single interface between dual singly negative medium layers. It is shown that the interface can support a mode which has polarization degeneracy and a vanishing propagation constant. That is, this surface mode is a polarization-independent one that does not propagate at all through the interface. The corresponding electric and magnetic field distributions become static along the longitudinal (guiding) direction (but not along the transverse direction) resulting in the formation of transverse-electric/longitudinalmagnetic or transverse-magnetic/longitudinal-electric modes.

  • This paper describes the magnetizer design of highly saturated magnetic circuit by high external field. The magnetizer is loaded by a capacitor bank with impulse currents to reach high magnetic flux-density(typically 5[T]). Magnetizing current come out from magnetizing system is simulated by analytic method and transient FEM, also field distributions of the magnetizer are analyzed.

  • The equations of a polar fluid of hydromagnetic fluctuating through a porous medium axe cast into matrix form using the state space and Laplace transform techniques the resulting formulation is applied to a variety of problems. The solution to a problem of an electrically conducting polar fluid in the presence of a transverse magnetic field and to a problem for the flow between two parallel fixed plates is obtained. The inversion of the Laplace transforms is carried out using a numerical approach. Numerical results for the velocity, angular velocity distribution and the induced magnetic field are given and illustrated graphically for each problems.

  • Recently an asymmetric giant magnetoimpedance (GMI) profile has been observed in Co-based amorphous ribbons annealed at the weak field [1-4]. This phenomenon has attracted a large interest due to its practical application to sensitive magnetic sensors. It is known [5.6] that in magnetic materials, the magnetoimpedance is caused by the effect of the magnetic field on the transverse magnetic permeability of a near-surface layer. In consequence of it, the value of the magnetoimpedance depends strongly on near-surface magnetic properties of the sample. (omitted)

  • 자기화 분말 함유량과 분말의 배향, 그리고 자기력 세기를 함수로 한 자기유동 탄성체의 압축 및 동적특성에 대해 연구하였다. 시험편은 순수 실리콘과 분말이 불규칙 배향된 실리콘, 축 방향으로 배향된 실리콘 그리고 축 직각 방향으로 배향된 실리콘으로 구분하였다. 탄성체 내에 포함된 분말의 배향을 위해 복합 탄성체의 성형을 자기장 내에서 실시하였다. 압축 및 동적시험은 자기력이 없는 경우와 자기력의 크기를 다르게 제어하는 경우로 구분하여 수행되었다. 복합 탄성체의 탄성율 및 손실계수는 동일한 자기력 세기에서 분말 함유량의 증가에 따라 증가하였다. 축 방향으로 배향된 복합탄성체의 탄성율과 손실계수는 축 직각 방향 배향 혹은 불규칙 배향에 비해 높게 나타났다.

Magnetic Properties and Magnetoimpedance Effect in Mumetal Thin Films

  • The dependence of the magnetoimpedance effect (MI) on magnetic properties has been investigated in mumetal thin films prepared by rf magnetron sputtering. Coercivity of thin films prepared at 400 W was about 0.4 Oe, and the magnetic anisotropy field of films deposited under a uniaxial magnetic field decreased with increasing film thickness. The saturation magnetization of mumetal films increased with rising input power and thickness and was smaller than that of permalloy films. Transverse incremental Permeability (TPR) of films of 1$\mu m$ thick increased with increasing effective permeability. The magneto impedance ratio (MIR) was proportional to TPR in films 1$\mu m$ thick but in spite of lower effective permeability at higher thicknesses, MIR increased due to skin effect. The height of the double peaks in the MIR curves decreased with decreasing anisotropy and thickness. The maximum MIR value for a 4$\mu m$ thick 75% at 36.5 MHz.
