A Study on the Design of Linear Motor with Transverse Flux Configuration for Railway Traction System (철도 차량용 고출력 횡축형 전동기 설계에 관한 연구)

  • According to the development of power electronic element(GTO, IGBT) and material for electrical machines(permanent magnet, super conductor), the technology for electrical machines is now a day rapidly developing. Here with, a novel electrical machine, based on the new conception of transverse flux configuration leads to a considerable increase in power density and enables simultaneously high efficiency. The designed and measured performance of transverse machine for railway traction system revealed a great potential of system improvements to reduce linear motor mass.

  • This paper proposes a coordinated control for an independent multi-phase transverse flux linear synchronous motor (IM-TFLSM) based on magnetic levitation. The stator structures of the IM-TFLSM are composed of a two set, which has independent three-phase windings and a double-sided air-gap as opposed to the conventional Y-connected three-phase linear motors. A suitable control algorithm is necessary to operate the applied linear machine. This study proposes a coordinated control algorithm for adjusting the mover air-gap and thrust force of the IM-TFLSM in order to maintain air-gap and phase shifted current control of the independent 3-phase modules. In addition, the principle of operation and its special structures are described in detail and the validity and effectiveness of the control algorithm is verified through multiple experimental results.

  • TFLIM(Transverse Flux Linear Induction Motor), making its closed magnetic path with the direction of the traveling field orthogonal, had been developed to decrease an edge effect of the general induction motor. To control the levitation force and the thrust force on the secondary part of TFLIM independently, the various methodologies have been presented. When we try to achieve the independent control using only the multi-phase inputs assigned in the stator coils as an approach, in which condition we can minimize the coupling effect between two forces\ulcorner In this paper, we show the qualitative influence of a slip frequency, an ac magnitude, a dc offset superposed in the ac power, and a major parameter of TFLIM on the couple through the computer simulation. And to realize the independent motions between levitation and thrust motion without any auxiliary means fur isolation of the secondary part of TFLIM, the decouple compensator is suggested, including the experimental results.

  • This paper presents an analysis method for a permanent magnet excited Transverse Flux Linear Motor (TFLM) with spiral core in a mover. The spiral core is used as mover core in order to make 3-dimensional magnetic flux path at the TFLM which has 3-dimensional magnetic flux flow. Magnetic field is analyzed by three-dimensional Equivalent Magnetic Circuit Network (EMCN) method. And an imaginary part, 'flux barrier,' is introduced to consider the spiral core characteristic. The computed thrust forces is compared to the measured results to show the effect of presented analysis method.

  • Since the linear step motor(LSM) has the merits which can be controlled the position and velocity by using the micro-computer and has no mechanical transducer such as belt and gear, it's usefullness has been fitted for the printer, x-y plotter, OA machinery and so on. In designing the LSM, we are faced up to the calculation of forces. in this paper, the permeance modeling method suited for the design of transverse flux type linear step motor(TFM) is presented and simulated.

  • This paper deals with a qualitative analysis of iron loss in Transverse Flux Linear Motor (TFLM). 3D equivalent magnetic circuit network method (EMCNM) is used as an analytical method to get flux density of each element. The total core loss is calculated with the magnetic flux density and core loss curves of an optional material. The results of iron loss analysis can be used as a criterion to decide the manufactural shape such as lamination or solid type core, skew position, etc.

  • A typical conventional systems of a linear motion use rack and pinions or ball screws to convert rotary motions from DC servo motors. A linear motor has been used a several field for a MEMS technology and a aircraft carrier. We have studied a transient response of a linear actuator with a damping ratio, spring constant and a pressed power for a constant stroke control.
