State of the art and current issues related with the RC and PSC structure system for the German magnetic levitation train "Transrapid" were investigated. The German magnetic levitation train adopted a new kind of a structure to enable high-speed transportation, which allows the use of the space over a ground. The loading from Transrapid is light-weight compared with a regular train due to load distribution to a supporting structure. Therefore, Transrapid is considered an economical and efficient transportation system, and is also an environmentally-sustainable structure. In this paper, the structural design and construction technology specific to a magnetic levitation train were discussed, and structural considerations related with an actual operation of the train were pointed out. In addition, the future research area of a magnetic levitation train was proposed.

Magnetic fields (MF) generated both on board the vehicle and along the guideway provide levitation and propulsion forces. High speed maglev trains adopt electromagnet or superconducting magnet to realize levitation and propulsion functions. However, stray fields existing in passenger compartment and regions surrounding the vehicle and guideway have effect on passengers and environment. To investigate stray magnetic field effect, model of Transrapid and MLX are studied.
The magnetically levitated system technology is highly expected to contribute the new transportation system of the 21st century with its high velocity operation, better riding comforts, friendliness to environment and saving of maintenance labour. Its development has been completed in low speed and in high speed application. In 2005, the Transrapid with 430 km/h speed will go into operation between Berlin and Hamburg[1]. In the year 2000, the realization of JR-Maglev will be basically evaluated for commercial operation[2]. In korea, maglev test vehicle with magnet for levitation and single sided linear induction motor for propulsion is under test at 1 [km] test track in KIMM.[3,4] Here, a transverse flux linear motor in combination with the levitation and the guidance leads to a considerable high power density and high efficiency simultaneously. The designed and measured performance of transverse flux linear motor for maglev system revealed a great potential of system mass reduction.
The Maglev system is environmentally friendless system, has excellent running capabilities and lower life cycle cost. The Maglev has been developed by Germany and Japan since 1970's. Then, Transrapid of Germany, super high speed type, had started for commercial operating at Sanghai of China in the early of 2004. In March of this year, HSST of Japan, urban type, had been serviced at Tobukyuro Line which links between Nagoya and Aichi. Recently, in Korea, Maglev system has been reviewed for commercial application.
In the train position defection for the rail car, which is not able to obtain the short circuit between the track circuit and the wheel, the methods by the inductive radio of non-contact type are applicated. It is represented the principles and the methods of the inductive radio train detection on MLU, Transrapid, HSST, M-Bahn, and People Mover for MAGLEV, on Kobe system for the rubber-tired vehicle, and on ICE for wheel-on-rail.
This paper presents the status of advanced technologies and domestic researches for development of Korean next generation maglev. Generally, two specific configurations such as the EMS (Electromagnetic Suspension) with LSM (Linear Synchronous Motor) and EDS (Electrodynamic Suspension) with LSM can be employed as a propulsion and levitation device of high-speed maglev. Worldwide high-speed maglev developments refer to projects such as the German Transrapid with EMS, the Japanese MLX with EDS, and the U.S. Inductrack with PM (Permanent Magnet) EDS maglev system. In this paper, the propulsion and levitation systems of these world wide high-speed maglev have been reviewed and analysed.
