A Study on the Reduction of Cogging Force of Stationary Discontinuous Armature Linear Synchronous Motor Using Auxiliary Teeth

  • The stationary discontinuous armatures that are used in permanent magnet linear synchronous motors (PM-LSMs) have been proposed as a driving source for transportation systems. However, the stationary discontinuous armature PM-LSM contains the outlet edges which always exist as a result of the discontinuous arrangement of the armature. For this reason, the high alteration of the outlet edge cogging force produced between the armature's core and the mover's permanent magnet when a mover passes the boundary between the armature's installation part and non-installation part has been indicated as a problem. Therefore, we have examined the outlet edge cogging force by installing the auxiliary teeth at the armature's outlet edge in order to minimize the outlet edge cogging force generated when the armature is arranged discontinuously. Moreover, we obtained the calculation by analyzing the shape of the auxiliary teeth in which the outlet edge cogging force is minimized the most.

  • The composite PC rahmen structure, called Green Frame, allows the main structural members such as PC column and beam to be produced on the site, resulting in a reduction of PC member transportation cost and the margin of PC plant (operation cost and profit), making it more economic than the bearing wall structure. To apply the Green Frame to practice, not only installation but also insitu-production process should be considered. Therefore, this study analyse the influence factors on insitu-production and installation schedule of composite precast concrete members. The results shall be used as basic criteria on the planning of insitu-production and installation of Green Frame.

  • Installation of pedestrian scramble is recently increasing due to pedestrian-oriented transportation policies issued in local governments. Pedestrian scramble is able to emphasize safety issues by reducing conflicts between pedestrians and vehicles when an exclusive pedestrian phase is employed. In spite of its positive property, pedestrian scramble has several negative points: an increase of a cycle length, a decrease of green time ratio, and an increase of total delay. This study delivers the impacts of pedestrian scrambles in terms of pedestrian convenience and traffic mobility. Authors analyzed the changes of traffic delays by comparing the installation and no installation of pedestrian scramble at an intersection by varying several variables: signal timings, traffic volumes, the number of lanes, and the number of pedestrian conflicts. The paper presents an analysis procedure as a guideline that assists practitioners in selection of appropriate intersections at where pedestrian scrambles are implemented.

  • Since chevron alignment sign provides a user with information of road's alignment, it plays an important role in improving the safety aspects of the highway. Currently, it is installed without reasonable design specifications and maintained under insufficient labor and working time. This study, therefore, reviewed the current specifications involving design, installation, shape, and color and several alternatives were generated. The readibility and visibility were chosen as measure of effectiveness to compass these alternatives. Furthermore, spacing of sign was evaluated. The field study resulted that yellow background with black sign was more realible and visible than the other alternatives.

  • This paper illustrates an analytical investigation of the vibration parameters of buildings on sliding seismic isolation bearings with elastic limiters of the relative displacement. The installation scheme of sliding bearings and elastic limiters for the separate unit of a 4 storey hospital building with brick walls is designed. The analysis of the vibrations of the hospital building is conducted for harmonic base excitation.

  • Metro is taking an important part as a public transportation of densely populated area. but according to request of increasing transportation demand and improving service for passengers, minimizing headway, functional improvement of safety facility, improving riding comfort are needed. Also, it is the time for Seoul metro's signalling system to be improved into a new one as it has been opened to traffic for over 20 years and its signalling system is becoming superannuated. this paper reviewed the considerations at improving a signalling system and its solution.

  • PC (Precast Concrete) method was preferred for reasons such as shortening of construction period, cost reduction, and quality. However, in the case of factory production, precast concrete has a problem in that transportation conditions in the transportation process, damage during transportation, overhead and profit of the factory are required. If work and PC members are produced on site, transportation and installation costs can be reduced. However, research on field production has not been conducted. Therefore, based on the on-site production plan without PC, the cost and quality of factory production and on-site production are compared and analyzed.

  • Recently existing the road traffic low is requlated by hump standard, which is established throuth the actual england TRRL(Transpodt and Road Research Laboratory) experiment. The determined standard has been utilized, however, wihtout the test on of our street and its drivers driving characteristics. Even with the utilization, the appropriate before and after management, is not constituted. In Spite of minimum speed limit, in many case, the utilization itself is questionalble rather than the purpose of restraining speed limit or reducing vehicle confacts. Along with hump consideration, social attention is focused due to series of personal law suit(traffic accident) field against the negligence of local organization management. Therefore counter measure of safe transportation facility is urgently required. With consideration of above background, the purpose of this research is to develop the hump that is appropriate with our transportation environment. This can be achieved thr ugh analysis of hump effectiveness, examination of drivers awamess, facilitation/management problems, and various problems in verticle acceleration.

Models for Determining the Vehicle and Pedestrian Volumes for the installation of Pedestrian Pushbuttons (보행자 작동신호기 설치기준 정립을 위한 적정 차량 및 보행자 교통량 추정모형)

  • The main reason to install pedestrian pushbuttons is improving traffic operations. The current guideline for the installation of signal systems with pedestrian pushbuttons is car-oriented. It is difficult to clearly understand the guideline because there isn't an in-depth study to compare the pros and cons of the pedestrian- and vehicle-oriented methods in terms of waiting time. Thus, this study aims to estimate the waiting times of pedestrians and vehicles. The two delay times are compared considering the hypothetical circumstances such as geometry, pedestrian crossing time, pedestrian/vehicle counts and arrival distribution. The results show that when the pedestrian traffic volume exceeds 97 ped/h in the case of a two-lane road (one lane in each direction) the pushbutton system is effective and beneficial to pedestrians. It means that the total waiting time of pedestrians is less than the one of vehicles. Additional four scenarios are designed and tested by varying the number of lanes and design speeds. In conclusion, the pushbutton signal is more beneficial for pedestrians when the number of pedestrians is less than or equal to 85, 70, and 70 ped/h for the three-lane scenario, the four-lane with the design speed of 80km/h scenario, and the four-lane with the design speed of 100km/h, respectively.
