The Effects of Electronic Commerce on the Freight Transport Industry

  • This paper investigates changing business transaction under the e-commerce environment and their implications on freight transport industry with some case studies. It shows that an efficient and reliable delivery system is essential for e-commerce as business industries are faced with the stricter and more diversified demands of customer. In addition, many aspects of business practices such as small batch, customized production and just-in-time distribution in the e-commerce environment, in turn, bring about a number of changes in the volume and service patterns of freight transport. E-commerce requires longer transport distances and often higher delivery frequencies. It also entails to a certain extent a modal shift towards truck and air freight transport modes. On the one hand, the logistical requirements of e-commerce goods may stimulate greater complexity in existing supply chain management, causing higher costs. However it is true that the increased visibility of goods through more efficient information flow allows more efficient and effective transport management in the logistics system.

심경, 신경의 오수혈 침자가 Mitochondrial Respiratory Chain Complexes에 미치는 영향 (The Effects of Acupuncture at Heart and Kidney Meridian on Mitochondrial Respiratory Chain Complexes Activities in Rats)

  • Objectives : Mitochondria are typically known as intracellular double membrane-bound structures that supply energy for intracellular metabolism including Krebs cycle and beta-oxidation. Also, acupuncture has been known to stimulate the flow of energy. To explore the effect of acupuncture on the mitochondrial respiratory chain activities in rat's heart and kidneys, the activities of mitochondrial respiratory chain complexes I to IV were observed. Methods : The rats were divided into 11 groups; Normal (no acupuncture treatment and under anesthesia for 10 min), heart meridian five-transport-points (acupuncture treatment at HT9, HT8, HT7, HT4 and HT3 under anesthesia for 10 min), and kidney meridian five-transport-points (acupuncture treatment at KI1, KI2, KI3, KI7 and KI10 under anesthesia for 10 min). All rats were sacrificed and the heart and kidneys were examined for the changes of respiratory chain activities. Results : Acupuncture at HT7 increased the activity of succinate dehydrogenase; acupuncture at KI2 increased the activity of ubiquinol cytochrome C oxidoreductase; and acupuncture at HT9, HT8, HT3 and KI1 increased activities of cytochrome C oxidase. Conclusions : Acupuncture assists mitochondrial repiratory chain activity via the Cytochrome C oxidase signaling pathway in heart and kidney of rats.

화물차량의 방문시설 공간설정 방법론 연구 (A Study on the Visiting Areas Classification of Cargo Vehicles Using Dynamic Clustering Method)

  • 화물의 흐름은 물류시설 투자 및 물류관련 정책 수립에 필요한 핵심적인 기초자료이다. 국가승인통계인 화물자동차의 기종점 통행량은 분석의 공간적 해상도가 시군구 단위로 집계되고 있다. 이는 물류시설 방문 및 이용에 관한 상세한 정보로 활용하는데 한계가 있다. 본 연구에서는 화물차의 이동 정보를 분석함에 있어 공간적 해상도를 시설단위로 식별 추출할 수 있는 방법론을 트립체인 정보를 활용하여 개발하고자 하였다. 먼저, DTG를 활용하여 개별 화물차량의 방문지 위치정보를 식별하고, 화물차의 통행 순서정보를 이용하여 화물차량의 방문한 공간적 범위를 H3 기반의 폴리곤으로 생성하였다. 생성된 트립체인 폴리곤 간의 연계성을 전국 단위로 분석함으로 폴리곤의 H3 해상도를 결정하였으며, 최적의 해상도를 동적으로 도출하기 위한 파라미터의 결정 알고리즘을 개발하였다. 전국을 대상으로 실증하여 폴리곤을 생성하고 최적 해상도 결정 결과 공간 적합도는 81.26% 수준으로 확보되고 오차율은 14.8% 수준으로 검증되었다. 본 연구에서 개발한 방법론으로 화물차량의 통행체인 특성과 방문 시설의 특성에 따라 군집화함으로 물류 거점을 기준으로 화물의 특성을 파악할 수 있는 기반을 마련하였다.

Effect of Chain Matching between Hydrocarbon and Fatty Acid on High Pressure Rheology

  • For estimation of chain-matching phenomena between normal paraffin as a solvent and straight-chain fatty acid as an additive, the density measurement of n-dodecane, n-tetradecane and n-hexadecane were carried out at oil temperature 313K and pressure up to 1.3 GPa. Their solidification pressure were easily determined by the appearance of molecular crystal, abrupt volumetric contraction and generation of heat of solidification and showed minima under the matching condition. The bulk modulus K of molecular crystal was evaluated using phase diagram. The bulk modulus showed maxima under the each matching condition. The chain matching effect on the bulk modulus beyond the scope of the interfacial phenomena are confirmed.

Transient carnitine transport defect with cholestatic jaundice: report of one case in a premature baby

  • Carnitine (${\beta}$-hydroxy-${\gamma}$-trimethylaminobutyric acid) is involved in the transport of long-chain fatty acids into the mitochondrial matrix and the removal of potentially toxic acylcarnitine esters. Transient carnitine transport defect is a rare condition in newborns reported in 1/90,000 live births. In this paper, we describe a case of transient carnitine transport defect found in a premature baby who had prolonged cholestatic jaundice and poor weight gain, and who responded dramatically to oral carnitine supplementation.

Embodied Energy and $CO_2$ Emissions Evaluation for Freight Transport

  • This study aim at demonstrating the environmental performance of freight transport of the rail and road mode through an indicator of embodied energy and $CO_2$ emissions. Using the concept of LCA, the scope of evaluation includes energy production, supply chain activity and operation. The results of embodied energy and $CO_2$ emissions are normalized by means of traffic volume. The results shown that embodied $CO_2$ emissions road mode is 607.07 $gCO_2-eq./tkm$ and 284.67 $gCO_2-eq./tkm$ for road and rail mode, respectively. This number reveals that road mode is 2.1 times larger than rail mode. The results also indicate that the main contribution of $CO_2$ emission from road mode is in the operation stage, which accounts for 70%; however, it is the construction and supply chain stage that accounts for over 50% of the emission of rail mode.
