Recently, fiber optic sensors, which have many advantages are being applied in various fields by replacing conventional electric sensors. To transmit the light signals between an interrogator and a sensor head, optical components such as an optical adaptor and optical jumper cords are generally used. When signals are transmitted using an adaptor, the end surface of each jumper cord is faced together. If alien substances exist on the core surface of an optical fiber, those can cause light transmission loss and signal disappearance. For this reason, non-contact fiber jumper cords are developed to overcome the problems that require continual attention. The light transmission performance of non-contact fiber jumper cords are also evaluated. From the test results, conventional fiber jumper cords are unable to transmit the signals over 2 mm cavity between the ends of both cords. Otherwise, non-contact fiber jumper cords can transmit the signals with stability up to the cavity of 7 mm though they have more transmission loss than the conventional ones. Consequently, non-contact fiber jumper cords that have better signal stability than conventional ones in environments are highly recommended in field applications, especially if they play a role as a cable for signal transmission between fiber optic sensors.
In this paper, we perform a research on a message delivery link based on visible light communication using illumination light-emitting diodes (LEDs) for car-to-car communications and the link transmission success probability is analyzed for the link. The message delivery system is modeled and the signal-to-noise ratio is calculated from the received optical power. Then, the link transmission probability is estimated from the calculated bit error rates (BERs). The message delivery system has optical links from an LED transmitter near the rear lamp of a car ahead to a receiver near the headlamp of a car behind, whose positions are assumed to follow the normal Gaussian distribution. The link transmission success probability is calculated considering the physical characteristics of the optical link. The car positions are generated according to the normal distribution and the bit error rates are calculated for all links. The link transmission success probability is defined. For the unoptimized optical car-to-car message delivery links, it is shown that the link transmission success probability is larger than 0.9 with the transmitted optical power of 400 mW and the semi-angle at half power of 30 degree.
In this paper, research was conducted to solve the problem of reducing the dimming level and flicker that occurs in the visible light communication system. Visible light communication is a convergence technology that provides both communication and lighting, and must satisfy not only communication performance but also lighting performance. However, since the existing data transmission method transmits without considering the transmission data sequence, it reduces the dimming level and causes a flicker phenomenon. To solve this problem, in this paper, the Dimming Improvement and Flicker Reduction Mapping technique was studied. Existing systems simply transmitted data of '0' and '1', but in this system, original data transmission channels and DIFR (Dimming Improvement and Flicker Reduction) transmission channels are assigned to RGB channels. Original data is allocated to the R channel and original data or inverse original data is allocated to the DIFR-G channel, and the DIFR-B channel maintains the maximum dimming level by transmitting through the logical operation of the R channel and the G channel. At the same time, the flicker phenomenon is prevented by preventing continuous occurrence of 'OFF' patterns. Through this, we proposed an adaptive data allocation algorithm that can faithfully play a role as a light as well as a communication function.

This study was carried out to investigate the effect of light quality on root yield and ginsenoside contents of 4-year-old ginseng by using the fourfold polyethylene shading net with different colors, blue and red color, compared to blue-black (3:1) mixed shading net as control. Control and blue shading net occurred higher root yield, especially, in tap root growth than red one, whereas transmitted quantum in red shading net was higher than those in blue one or control. However, red shading net caused the highest content of total ginsenoside, especially, Rg1 content, as compared to blue and control. We assumed that the increased content of ginsenoside is not caused by light quality such as red, but is due to the increase of relative ratio of ginsenoside in whole root tissue arising from the reduced root growth.

An infrared remote control-type transcutaneous control device using a $\mu$-processor is design for the totally implantable middle ear system. An infrared light transmission model for the tissue of skin was introduced and then a radiant intensity and the required current of the infrared light emitting diode(IR LED) driving circuit at transmission part were calculated for the external control device. And the transmission part generates IR signal by the system's own data protocol which prevents interferences from other infrared remote controls of the household appliances. The control part of the implanted device was designed to analyze functions of the received infrared(IR) signal that indicate the power ON/OFF and volume UP/DOWN. After the system is implemented, a data transmission experiments using 4 mm thickness of porcine skin were carried out. From the experiment, it was verified that the infrared control signal was transmitted to receiving module of the implemented system without any error.

In paper the evenness of planar distribution of mass in a small scale is called formation (orbetter:mass formation). Traditionally formation has been assessed visually, by looking the sheet of paper against transmitted light. Different kinds of optieal testers are being usd to obtain quantitative rankings htat would be independent of the observer but would well correspond to the visual assessment. However, various raw-material and process factors do influence light trans-mittance in paper and do impair the correspondence between basis weight and the optical formation measurement (or visual assessment). As the optical formation test methods do not incorporate an efficient calib ration routine, the formation of the sophisticated paper grades of today the is rather difficult to measure optically and may lead to erroneous results. It may be concluded that the optical measurement is not suitable for paper grades with high filler content. coating, heavy calendering or that are made of heavily beaten pulp, nordoes it apply for dyed or printed papers. For this reason, visual assessment and optical evaluation shoild be replaced with a measurement that gives reliable results independent on paper grode and manufacturing process. Formation measuremend based on beta radiation is suitable for all paper grades regardless to the material contents or process treatment. It is possible to measure even dyed or printed samples. Thonks to a sim ple and relioble calibration, the results are converted to real basis weight balues that remain reliable even with time. The only beta tester commercially available is the AMBERTEC Beta Formation Tester. Formation of paper does vary locally in the web. Typically there exists a formation profile, too similarly to other properties of paper. Therefore, formation should ? ays be expressed as a mean of a sufficient amount of parallel determinations. All formation measurements should be calibrated against basis weight.

The tandem solar cell composed of a dye-sensitized solar cell (DSC) and a thermoelectric generator (TEG) was designed. In such new cell, the characteristics of DSC and TEG were investigated. DSC uses the wavelength range of 380∼750 nm and has the maximum efficiency of below 10 %. If the solar light transmitted through DSC can be converted to heat energy, TEG can generate electric energy using this heat energy. By this means, it is possible to utilize most of solar energy in the wavelength range of 350∼3000 nm for electric generation and it can be expected to obtain higher solar energy conversion efficiency exceeding the known limit of maximum efficiency. For this purpose we suggest the tandem solar cell constructed with DSC and TEG. In this structure, DSC has a carbon nanotube film as a counter electrode of DSC in order to collect the solar light and convert it to heat energy. We measured the I-V characteristics of DSC and TEG, assembled to the tandem cell. As a result, it was shown that DSC with carbon nanotube and TEG had the efficiency of 9.1 % and 6.2 %, respectively. From this results, it is expected that the tandem solar cell of the new design has the possibility of enhanced conversion efficiency to exceed above 15 %.

This paper introduces the improvement of QoS to compensate the decreasing LED performance by temperature characteristic in the LED-ID communication system. LED does not only use as a lighting device, but also uses as a communication device. The conventional system is transmitted by RGB of LED following the mixture color ratio, which determined the color of lighting, and the BER performance of each RGB signals. However, when the LED used consistently, it has occurred the heat temperature. As a result, LED is degraded the performance by increased temperature each device. To solve this problem, we proposed the adaptive modulation and coding scheme by temperature of device to improve the performance of system and satisfied the QoS in the LED-ID system.

We have designed X-ray detection system and multi-channel data acquisition system for Spiral CT application. X-ray detection system consists of scintillator and photodiode. Scintillator converts X-ray into visible light. Photodiode converts visible light into electrical signal. The multi-channel data acquisition system consists of analog, digital, master and backplane board. Analog board detects electrical signal and amplifies signal by 140dB. Digital board consists of MUX(Multiplex) which routes multi-channel analog signal to preamplifier, and ADC(Analog to Digital Converter) which converts analog signal into digital signal. Master board supplies the synchronized clock and transmits the digital data to image reconstructor. Backplane provides electrical power, analog output and clock signal. The system converts the projected X-ray signal over the detector array with large gain, samples the data in each channel sequentially, and the sampled data are transmitted to host computer in a given time frame. To meet the timing limitation, this system is very flexible since it is implemented by FPGA(Field Programmable Gate Array). This system must have a high-speed operation with low noise and high SNR(signal to noise ratio), wide dynamic range to get a high resolution image.
Angular leaf spot of strawberry caused by Xanthomonas fragariae occurred sporadically in the farmers open field at Sugok-myon, Jinju city, and greenhouse at Okjong-myon, Hadong-gun, Gyeongnam province, Korea. Typical symptoms of angular leaf spot initially appeared as a minute, water-soaked, rotted lesion on the lower leaf surface and the minute spots expanded to form angular leaf spots, usually delimited by small veins. The lesion was translucent under the transmitted light and dark green under reflected light. The slow growing pathogen was a gram-negative, motile bacterium with single polar flagellum, and producing yellowish orange pigment on YDC medium. It showed very strong pathogenicity on the leaves of strawberry. On the basis of biological characteristics and pathogenicity test on host plants, the bacteria was identified as a Xanthomonas fragariae. This is the first report on angular leaf spot of strawberry caused by X. fragariae in Korea.
