Photoreactive polymers as a color filter resist containing both photoreactive acrylate and cinnamate double bonds were synthesized usin two step reactions. The chemical structures of the synthesized polymers were confirmed by $^1H$-NMR and FT-IR spectroscopy. The photoreactive polymers were quite soluble in most common organic solvents and produced excellent quality thin films by spin-coating. The photocuring kinetics of the acrylate and cinnamate double bonds were examined by FT-IR and UV- Vis spectroscopy, which confirmed the excellent photoreactivity of both the acrylate and cinnamate double bonds in the polymers. Upon UV irradiation, photocuring was almost completed within approximately 5 min, irrespective of the type of the prepolymers. The polymers also exhibited superior thermal stability, showing little change in transmittance in the visible region even after heating to $250^{\circ}C$ for one hour. Photolithographic micropatterns could be obtained with a resolution of a few microns.

Optical and mechanical properties of diamond-like carbon (DLC) films synthesized by RF plasma enhanced chemical vapor deposition were investigated as a function the C/H ratio in gas mixture. The C/H ratio was varied from 6 to 10 %, adjusting the amount of $CH_4$ and $H_2$ as the source gas. The optical and mechanical properties of DLC films were characterized by UV spectrometer, Ellipsometer and Nano-indenter. The change of the C/H ratio during synthesis of DLC films had many effects on the growth rate, transmittance, refractive index and hardness. The growth rate of the films increased exponentially with the increase in C/H ratio. The hardness of the films showed the tendency to improve with increasing C/H ratio, whereas the transmittance decreased. The refractive index was varied from 2.03 to 2.17, and these refractive indexes close to 2.0 indicates that it can be applied to Si-based solar cell.

In order to form an aluminum-doped zinc oxide (AZO) transparent electrode film on a polyethylene terephthalate (PET) substrate used for a flexible display substrate, the AZO transparent electrode was produced at low temperature without substrate heating. Even though the produced electrode showed characteristic optical transmittance of 90 % (at 550 nm) and sheet resistance within $100{\Omega}/sq$, cracks occurred 10 minutes after loading applied 2 mm radius of curvature, and the sheet resistance increased linearly. An insertion layer of ZrCu was formed between the AZO film and the PET substrate to suppress the generation of cracks on the AZO film. It was verified that the crack was not generated 30 minutes after the loading of 2 mm radius of curvature, and no increase in sheet resistance was recorded. There was also not cracks in the dynamic bending test of 4 mm radius, but surface resistance was slightly increased. As a result, the ZrCu insertion film improved the interfacial adhesion between the substrate and AZO film layer without increasing sheet resistance and decreasing transmittance.

The damage in germanium (Ge) optical window irradiated by a near-infrared continuous wave (CW) laser was studied. Laser-induced heating and melting process were surveyed, and the specific laser power and the irradiance time to melt were estimated by numerical simulation. The experiments were also carried out to investigate the macro and micro structure change on Ge window. Results showed that the surface deformation was formed by melting and resolidification process, the damaged surface had a polycrystalline phase, and the transmittance as an optical performance factor in mid-infrared region was decreased. We confirmed that an abnormal polycrystalline phase and surface deformation effect such as hillock formation and roughness increase reduced the transmittance of Ge window and were the damage mechanism of CW laser induced damage on Ge window.

A self-powered electrochromic device was fabricated on an indium tin oxide-polyethylene naphthalate flexible substrate using a dye-sensitized solar cell (DSSC) as a self-harvesting source; the electrochromic device was naturally bleached and operated under outdoor light conditions. The color of the organic electrochromic polymer, poly(3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene) polystyrene sulfonate, was shifted from pale blue to deep blue with an antimony tin oxide film as a charge-balanced material. Electrochromic performance was enhanced by secondary doping using dimethyl sulfoxide. As a result, the device showed stable switching behavior with a high transmittance change difference of 40% at its specific wavelength of 630 nm for 6 hrs. To improve the efficiency of the solar cell, 1.0 wt.% of Ag NWs in the photoanode was applied to the $TiO_2$ photoanode. It resulted in an efficiency of 3.3%, leading to an operating voltage of 0.7 V under xenon lamp conditions. As a result, we built a standalone self-harvesting electrochromic system with the performance of transmittance switching of 29% at 630 nm, by connecting with two solar cells in a device. Thus, a self-harvesting and flexible device was fabricated to operate automatically under the irradiated/dark conditions.

Purposes: The purposes of this study were to investigate the optical, structural and electrical properties of the antimony doped tin oxide(ATO) thin films according to certain variable deposition conditions, such as RF input power and T-S (target-substrate) distance change, using transparent conducting oxide (TCO). Methods: ATO thin films of Sb concentration ratio with $SnO_2:Sb_2O_5$ = 95:5 wt% were deposited at room temperature by RF magnetron sputtering method. Results: ATO thin films were most sensitive to the RF input power: light transmittance was 78% at RF input power of 30W, and 0.56 nm for the surface roughness and 1007 $\Omega{\cdot}cm^{-2}$ for the sheet resistance as well. Conclusions: It was found that ATO thin films were showed the large change in its characteristics of structural, optical and electrical properties which were affected by T-S distance and RF input power.
This study examines the surface characteristics, electrical conductivity, electromagnetic wave blocking characteristics, infrared (IR) transmittance, stealth function, thermal characteristics, and moisture characteristics of IR thermal imaging cameras. Nylon film (NFi), nylon fabric (NFa), and 5 types of nylon mesh were selected as the base materials for aluminum sputtering, and aluminum sputtering was performed to study IR thermal imaging, color difference, temperature change, and so on, and the relationship with infrared transmittance was assessed. The electrical conductivity was measured and the aluminum-sputtered nylon film demonstrated 25.6kΩ of surface resistance and high electrical conductivity. In addition, the electromagnetic wave shielding characteristics of the sputtering-treated nylon film samples were noticeably increased as a result of aluminum sputtering treatment as measured by the electromagnetic wave blocking characteristics. When NFi and NFa samples with single-sided sputtering were placed on the human body (sputtering layer faced the outside air) and imaged using IR thermographic cameras, the sputtering layer displayed a color similar to the surroundings, showing a stealth effect. Moreover, the tighter the sample density, the better the stealth function. According to the L, a, b measurements, when the sputtering layer of NFi and NFa samples faced the outside air, the value of a was generally high, thereby demonstrating a concealing effect, and the △E value was also high at 124.2 and 93.9, revealing a significant difference between the treated and untreated samples. This research may be applicable to various fields, such as the military wear, conductive sensors, electromagnetic wave shielding film, and others.

Transmittance and resistivity is investigated according to bending of ITO (indium tin oxide)film with four other multi-barrier film. Transmission data of ITO film with four ITO films showed there was about large 90% transmission above 550 nm wavelength at three multi-barrier structures. But, both -side hard coated structure showed relatively low 75% transmission above 550 nm wavelength. Also, resistivity change of four other multi-barrier film showed there was the lowest change at oneside hard coated structure. Subsequently, with result of resistivity change according to position, it was known the resistivity change of the center increased rapidly than that of the edge.

The dielectric thin films applied to multi-colored semitransparent thin film solar cells have been extensively studied. In this work, we prepared GeSbTe and GeTe chalcogenide thin films using magnetron sputtering, and investigated their optical and phase-change properties to replace the dielectric films. The changes of surface morphology, sheet resistance, and X-ray diffraction of the Te-based chalcogenide films support the fact that the amorphous stability of GeTe films is superior to that of GeSbTe films. While both amorphous GeSbTe and GeTe films thinner than 30 nm have optical transparency between 5% and 60%, GeTe films transmit more visible light than GeSbTe films. It is confirmed by computer simulation that the color of semitransparent silicon thin film solar cells can be adjusted with the addition of GeSbTe or GeTe films. Since it is possible to adjust the contrast of the solar cells by exploiting the phase-change property, the two kinds of chalcogenide films are anticipated to be used as an optical layer in semitransparent solar cells.
