  • General location aware systems are only applied to indoor and outdoor environments using more than three transmitters to estimate a fixed object location. Those kinds of systems have environmental restrictions that require an already established infrastructure. To solve this problem, an Object Location Estimation (OLE) algorithm based on PTP (Point To Point) communication has been proposed. However, the problem with this method is that deduction of performance parameters is not enough and location estimation is very difficult because of unknown restriction conditions. From experimental tests in this research, we determined that the performance parameters for restriction conditions are a maximum transmission distance of CSS communication and an optimum moving distance interval between personal locations. In this paper, a system applied OLE algorithm based on PTP communication is implemented using a CSS (Chirp Spread Spectrum) communication module. A maximum transmission distance for CSS communication and an optimum moving distance interval between personal locations are then deducted and studied to estimate a fixed object location for generalization.

  • The polyphase filter-based orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (PF-OFDM) is proposed in [1]. It provides more efficient data transmission mechanism than the classical OFDM method. However, the channel estimation mechanism in the classical OFDM system such as the cyclic prefix can not be applied straightforwardly, since the received signal contains unpredictable terms. Therefore, the PF-OFDM system requires a complicated channel estimation scheme when it works on the multipath fading communication channel. In this paper, we proposed a pilot-symbol aided channel estimation algorithm suitable for the PF-OFDM system which efficiently deals with the unpredictable terms and verified its performance through a series of computer simulations.

  • In this paper, we propose an integer frequency offset estimation and compensation method based on PLC preamble correlation in DOCSIS 3.1 Downstream system. The proposed method determines the PLC preamble subcarrier location recovered from PLC data and the one obtained from PLC preamble correlation. We showed the performance of PLC preamble detection in the received signal through the maximum value detection of PLC preamble correlation. Thus we can estimate and compensate for the integer frequency offset by computing the difference of PLC subcarrier locations.

  • Congestion Management (CM) is an attractive research area in the electrical power transmission with the power compensation abilities. Reconfiguration and the Flexible Alternating Current Transmission Systems (FACTS) devices utilization relieve the congestion in transmission lines. The lack of optimal power (real and reactive) usage with the better transfer capability and minimum cost is still challenging issue in the CM. The prediction of suitable place for the energy resources to control the power flow is the major requirement for power handling scenario. This paper proposes the novel optimization principle to select the best location for the energy resources to achieve the real-reactive power compensation. The parameters estimation and the selection of values with the best fitness through the Symmetrical Distance Travelling Optimization (SDTO) algorithm establishes the proper controlling of optimal power flow in the transmission lines. The modified fitness function formulation based on the bus parameters, index estimation correspond to the optimal reactive power usage enhances the power transfer capability with the minimum cost. The comparative analysis between the proposed method with the existing power management techniques regarding the parameters of power loss, cost value, load power and energy loss confirms the effectiveness of proposed work in the distributed renewable energy systems.

  • In this paper, a new high resolution reflectometry scheme, time-frequency domain reflectometry(TFDR), isproposed to detect and estimate a fault in a transmission line. Traditional reflectometry methodologies have been achieved either in the time domain or in the frequency domain only. However, the TFDR can jump over the performance limits of the traditional reflectometry methodologies because the acquired signal is analyzed in time and frequency domain simultaneously. In the TFDR, the new reference signal and the novel TFDR algorithm are proposed for analyzing the acquired signal in the time-frequency domain. Because the reference signal of Gaussian envelop chirp signal is localized in the time and frequency domain simultaneously, it is suitable to the analysis in the time-frequency domain. In the proposed TFDR algorithm, the time-frequency distribution function and the normalized time-frequency cross correlation function are used to detect and estimate a fault in a transmission line. That algorithm is verified for real-world coaxial cables which are typical transmission line with different types of faults by the TFDR system composed of real instruments. The performance of the TFDR methodology is compared with that o( the commercial time domain reflectomeoy(TDR) experiments, so that concludes the TFDR methodology can detect and estimate the fault with smaller error than TDR methodology.

  • This paper presents low-complexity single-image dehazing to enhance the visibility of outdoor images that are susceptible to degradation due to weather and environmental conditions, and applies it to various devices. The conventional methods involve refinement of coarse transmission with high computational complexity and extensive memory requirements. But the proposed transmission estimation method includes excellent edge-preserving performance from comparison of the pixel-based dark channel and the patch-based dark channel in the vicinity of edges, and transmission can be estimated with low complexity since no refinement is required. Moreover, it is possible to accurately estimate transmissions and adaptively remove haze according to the characteristics of the images via prediction of the atmospheric light for each pixel using joint bright and dark channel (JBDC). Comprehensive experiments on various hazy images show that the proposed method exhibits reduced computational complexity and excellent dehazing performance, compared to the existing methods; thus, it can be applied to various fields including real-time devices.

  • Galloping is one of the most serious vibration problems in transmission lines. Power lines can be extensively damaged owing to aerodynamic instabilities caused by ice accretion. In this study, the accident probability induced by galloping phenomenon was analyzed using logistic regression analysis. As former studies have generally concluded, main factors considered were local weather factors and physical factors of power delivery systems. Since the number of transmission towers outnumbers the number of weather observatories, interpolation of weather factors, Kriging to be more specific, has been conducted in prior to forming galloping accident estimation model. Physical factors have been provided by Korea Electric Power Corporation, however because of the large number of explanatory variables, variable selection has been conducted, leaving total 11 variables. Before forming estimation model, with 84 provided galloping cases, 840 non-galloped cases were chosen out of 13 billion cases. Prediction model for accidents by galloping has been formed with logistic regression model and validated with 4-fold validation method, corresponding AUC value of ROC curve has been used to assess the discrimination level of estimation models. As the result, logistic regression analysis effectively discriminated the power lines that experienced galloping accidents from those that did not.

  • In this paper, we derive the outage probability for M-ary phase shifting keying (MPSK) and M-ary quadrature amplitude modulation (MQAM) burst transmission (BT) of adaptive decode-and-forward (ADF) cooperative relay systems over quasi-static Rayleigh fading channels. Within a burst, there are pilot symbols and data symbols. Pilot symbols are used for channel estimation schemes and each relay node's transmission mode selection schemes. At first, we focus on ADF relay systems in which the probability density function (PDF) is derived on the basis of error events at relay nodes corresponding to channel estimation errors. Next, the average outage probability is derived as an approximate expression for an arbitrary link signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) for different modulation orders. Its accuracy is demonstrated by comparison with simulation results. Further, it is confirmed that BT-ADF relay systems with pilot symbol based channel estimation schemes enables to select correctly decoded relay nodes without additional signaling between relay nodes and the destination node, and it is verified that the ideal performance is achieved with small SNR loss.

  • Data compression at the transport layer could both reduce transmitted bytes over network links and increase the transmitted application data (TCP PDU) in one RTT at the same network conditions. Therefore, it is able to improve transmission efficiency on Internet, especially on the networks with limited bandwidth or long delay links. In this paper, we propose an on-the-fly TCP data compression scheme, i.e., the TCPComp, to enhance TCP performance. This scheme is primarily composed of the compression decision mechanism and the compression ratio estimation algorithm. When the application data arrives at the transport layer, the compression decision mechanism is applied to determine which data block could be compressed. The compression ratio estimation algorithm is employed to predict compression ratios of upcoming application data for determining the proper size of the next data block so as to maximize compression efficiency. Furthermore, the assessment criteria for TCP data compression scheme are systematically developed. Experimental results show that the scheme can effectively reduce transmitted TCP segments and bytes, leading to greater transmission efficiency compared with the standard TCP and other TCP compression schemes.

  • We developed the durability estimation and design systems to minimize the volume, considering the durability, efficiency, and design requirements of worm gears. That is, we consider each kind of factors affecting on durability on the basis of AGMA Standard for the cylindrical and double-enveloping worm gears. We also estimate input power on the basis of wear and durability, bending strength and deflection of worm shaft, and we developed the durability estimation and design systems of power transmission worm gears introducing the optimal design method on the personal computer to be easily used in field. Also, we developed a method which converts the design variables obtained from the optimal design method to integer values(number of worm threads, number of worm threads, number of worm wheel teeth, etc.,) to be used in real design and production. The developed durability estimation and design method can be easily applied to the design of worm gears used as power transmission devices in machineries and is expected to be used for weight minimization of worm gear unit.
