  • Recently construction of new transmission line is getting harder because of social hostility to transmission tower. Howevere, load is converged in metropolitan area and power plants near this area are old and life of generator will end soon. Therefore, power to supply load in this area should be transmitted from east coast area and southern area. For these reasons, securement of transmission capacity without new transmission line construction is important. In this paper, effect of one circuit AC line change to DC transmission at the same transmission tower on the system available transfer capacity is analyzed.

  • Electricity Market in Korea can't provide locational price signal through energy price because energy market is CBP(Cost Based Pool) using uniform price. Generators don't want to locate in a densely populated load area(like the metropolitan area). Because they are paid more fixed cost in metropolitan area. This situation has loss and congestion occurred in power system. However energy market without price signal can't lead generator to the metropolitan. So, market participants should be provided price signal through the transmission price instead of energy price. This paper proposes transmission pricing method considering reliability cost in order to offer price signal. Also, it proposes the method to allocate the transmission cost to each transmission line user through a fair and a reasonable manner. The transmission price is decided by the reliability value of each line. If a transmission line of high reliability value is broke, users using that line will get a loss and a discomfort. So, it is fair that users using a transmission line of high reliability value pay more than the other users. Also, it is reasonable that a transmission line owner get paid more form users using that line.

  • The 8-VSB modulation technology developed by ATSC was adapted for national terrestrial DTV broadcasting. It uses same bandwidth of 6㎒ as the one of NTSC TV broadcasting. The simulcast on the both of analog and digital is mandated for some period, some shortage within the limited frequency resource . ATSC transmission technology is excellent in long distance broadcasting, but it is even poorer than other transmission technology In mobile receiving. The design of transmission system in the ATSC broadcasting is food enough with the provision of wide area service without Interference from adjacent channel. To provide adequate DTV service within the broadcasting area, transmission technology is an important factor

  • In order to facilitate the electricity market operation and trade in the restructured environment, ample transmission capability should be provided to satisfy the demand of increasing power transactions. The conflict of this requirement and the restrictions on the transmission expansion in the restructured electricity market has motivated the development of methodologies to enhance the available transfer capability (ATC) of existing transmission grids. The insertion of flexible AC transmission System (FACTS) devices in electrical systems seems to be a promising strategy to enhance single area ATC and multi-area ATC. In this paper, the viability and technical merits of boosting single area ATC and multi-area ATC using Thyristor controlled series compensator (TCSC), static VAR compensator (SVC) and unified power flow controller (UPFC) in single device and multi-type three similar and different device combinations are analyzed. Particle swarm optimization (PSO) algorithm is employed to obtain the optimal settings of FACTS devices. The installation cost is also calculated. The study has been carried out on IEEE 30 bus and IEEE 118 bus systems for the selected bilateral, multilateral and area wise transactions.

  • The first step of performance-based design for transmission lines is the determination of wind fields as well as wind loads, which are largely depending on local wind climate and the surrounding terrain. Wind fields in a mountainous area are very different with that in a flat terrain. This paper firstly investigated both mean and fluctuating wind characteristics of a typical mountainous wind field by wind tunnel tests and computational fluid dynamics (CFD). The speedup effects of mean wind and specific turbulence properties, i.e., turbulence intensity, power spectral density (PSD) and coherence function, are highlighted. Then a hybrid simulation framework for generating three dimensional (3D) wind velocity field in the mountainous area was proposed by combining the CFD and proper orthogonal decomposition (POD) method given the properties of the target turbulence field. Finally, a practical 220 kV transmission line was employed to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed wind field generation framework and its role in the performance-based design. It was found that the terrain-induce turbulence effects dominate the performance-based structural design of transmission lines running through the mountainous area.

  • In this paper an expert system is developed to decide the resetting area of protective devices in power transmission systems. A configuration change in power transmission networks from a substation extension such as new line or bus addition need resetting of protective devices around the point of configuration changes. To find the resetting area in complex power system is very difficult, especially when the distance protective relays are considered to be reset. The proposed expert system, in this paper to find the resetting area has many rules based on the changes of fault currents and apparent factors from the power system alteration. It solves the problem to find relay resetting area using the network information in the database and the rule-base. The case study shows a result of the problem to find relay resetting area in KEPCO system when there is any configuration change.

  • This paper presents the real channel measurements and investigates their statistical characterization in wireless body area network(WBAN). In on-/off body channel, the measurements are performed with some representative human movements for considering human movements. Moreover, three signal transmission schemes with outage constraint are studied for getting total power consumption in each transmission scheme. Using the real channel measurements, between theoretical and realistic simulation are compared. This paper shows that power efficiency is improved through cooperative communication, and how much position of sensor node and human movement affect signal transmission power.

  • In this paper, an optimal approach for the wide-area regulation of control devices in a transmission network is proposed. In order to realize an improved voltage profile and reduced power loss, existing devices such as tap-changing transformers, synchronous machines, and capacitor banks should be controlled in a coordinated and on-line manner. It is well-understood that phasor measurement units in transmission substations allow the system operators to access the on-line loading and operation status of the network. Accordingly, this study proposes efficient software applications that can be employed in area operation centers. Thus, the implanted control devices can be regulated in an on-line and wide-area coordinated approach. In this process, efficient objective functions are devised for both voltage profile improvement and power loss reduction. Subsequently, sensitivity analysis is carried out to determine the best weighting factors for these objectives. Extensive numerical studies are conducted on an IEEE 14-bus test system and a real-world system named the Azarbayjan Regional Transmission Network. The obtained results are discussed in detail to highlight the promising improvements.

  • Brackets for an automatic transmission are usually used to connect the transmission with adjacent components in a vehicle. Fillet areas of brackets are one of the most important areas to design the brackets because the areas are easily fractured when the brackets are subjected to external loads. In this study, a new design around the fillet area of the bracket is suggested and improved effects of the proposed design are proved through the comparison of safety factors with the current design. The safety factors are calculated through the fatigue analysis via a commercial code, FEMFAT.

  • We present a robust power transmission lines detection method based on vanishing point estimation. Vanishing point estimation can be helpful to detect power transmission lines because parallel lines converge on the vanishing point in a projected 2D image. However, it is not easy to estimate the vanishing point correctly in an image with complex background. Thus, we first propose a vanishing point estimation method on power transmission lines by using a probabilistic voting procedure based on intersection points of line segments. In images obtained by our system, power transmission lines are located in a fan-shaped area centered on this estimated vanishing point, and therefore we select the line segments that converge to the estimated vanishing point as candidate line segments for power transmission lines only in this fan-shaped area. Finally, we detect the power transmission lines from these candidate line segments. Experimental results show that the proposed method is robust to noise and efficient to detect power transmission lines.
