System Identification of Internet transmission rate control factors

  • As the real-time multimedia applications through Internet increase, the bandwidth available to TCP connections is oppressed by the UDP traffic, result in the performance of overall system is extremely deteriorated. Therefore, developing a new transmission protocol is necessary. The TCP-friendly algorithm is an example meeting this necessity. The TCP-friendly (TFRC) is an UDP-based protocol that controls the transmission rate based on the available round transmission time (RTT) and the packet loss rate (PLR). In the data transmission processing, transmission rate is determined based on the conditions of the previous transmission period. If the one-step ahead predicted values of the control factors are available, the performance will be improved significantly. This paper proposes a prediction model of transmission rate control factors that will be used for the transmission rate control, which improves the performance of the networks. The model developed through this research is predicting one-step ahead variables of RTT and PLR. A multiplayer perceptron neural network is used as the prediction model and Levenberg-Marquardt algorithm is used for the training. The values of RTT and PLR were collected using TFRC protocol in the real system. The obtained prediction model is validated using new data set and the results show that the obtained model predicts the factors accurately.

Analysis of Different 500kV HVAC Transmission Lines Lightning Shielding

  • The lightning shielding of different 500 kV HVAC-TL high voltage AC transmission lines was analyzed. The studied transmission lines were horizontal flat single circuit and double circuit transmission lines. The lightning attractive areas were drawn around power conductors and shielding wires. To draw the attractive areas of the high voltage transmission lines, transmission line power conductors, shielding wires and lightning leader were modeled. Different parameters were considered such as lightningslope, ground slope and wind on lightning attractive areas. From the calculated results, the power conductors voltages affected on attractive areas around power conductors and shielding wires. For negative lightning leader, the attractive area around the transmission line power conductor increased around power conductors stressed by positives voltage and decreased around power conductors stressed by negative voltage. In spite of this, the attractivearea of the transmission line shielding wire increasedaround the shielding wire above the power conductor stressed by the positive voltage and decreased around the shielding wire above the power conductor stressed by negative voltage. The attractive areas around power conductors and shielding wires were affected by the surrounding conditions, such as lightning leader slope, ground slope. The AC voltage of the transmission lines made the shielding areas changing with time.

A Distributed LT Codes-based Data Transmission Technique for Multicast Services in Vehicular Ad-hoc Networks

  • In this paper, we consider an infrastructure-vehicle-vehicle (I2V2V) based Vehicle Ad-hoc Networks (VANETs), where one base station multicasts data to d vehicular users with the assistance of r vehicular users. A Distributed Luby Transform (DLT) codes based transmission scheme is proposed over lossy VANETs to reduce transmission latency. Furthermore, focusing on the degree distribution of DLT codes, a Modified Deconvolved Soliton Distribution (MDSD) is designed to further reduce the transmission latency and improve the transmission reliability. We investigate the network behavior of the transmission scheme with MDSD, called MDLT based scheme. Closed-form expressions of the transmission latency of the proposed schemes are derived. Performance simulation results show that DLT based scheme can reduce transmission latency significantly compared with traditional Automatic Repeat Request (ARQ) and Luby Transform (LT) codes based schemes. In contrast to DLT based scheme, the MDLT based scheme can further reduce transmission latency and improve FER performance substantially, when both the source-to-relay and relay-to-sink channels are erasure channels.

Direct Evidence of Endophyte (Neotyphodium coenophialum) Genotype Effect on Growth and Vertical Transmission of Endophyte in Tall Fescue (Schedonorus phoenix Scop.) Under Water Stress

  • Tall fescue (Schedonorus phoenix Scop.) is resistant to abiotic and biotic stresses through a symbiotic relationship with Neotyphodium coenophialum. However, this endophyte has been considered detrimental since it produces toxic alkaloids to animals. It is vital to understand mutuality between these two to maximize positive impact of the endophyte on agri-ecosystem. Little research has been conducted on endophyte transmission mechanism in planta. To provide basic information related to endophyte transmission, an experiment was conducted to examine the effect of endophyte genotype and water stress on endophyte transmission by imposing soil moisture deficits at different stages of panicle development. There was water stress effect on endophyte frequency but not on concentration, whereas endophyte genotype significantly influenced endophyte concentration in pseudostem of tall fescue at boot stage. Reproductive tillers showed greater endophyte frequency and concentration. Endophyte frequency in florets or seeds depended on position within panicle. There was no drought effect on endophyte concentration, but showed the effect of endophyte genotype on endophyte concentration in florets and seeds. Overall endophyte concentration in seeds was higher. From this study, we may conclude that although water stress reduced endophyte frequency in vegetative tiller, water stress does not have effect on endophyte transmission, suggesting that drought is not an important factor controlling the endophyte transmission from plant to seed. Endophyte genotype and seed position in a panicle affected endophyte transmission, indicating that these two factors are involved in endophyte transmission and may determine seed transmission of endophyte in tall fescue.

  • This paper presents the information transmission between on-board and ground-site in MAGLEV. considering safety and high speed operation and density operation, information transmission between them is necessary. Therefore it is necessary for transmission system to ensure high speed transmission, low error rate, massive information, and reliability of information. To provide above conditions, 1.1km signal line assembly was constructed and Frequency Shift Keying(FSK) modulation and Open System Interconnection(OSI) based high-level data link control(HDLC) protocol are applied. To modulate digital signal for transmission from ground-site to on-board, carrier frequency of 70kHz is used and 90khz is used for transmission from on-board to ground-site. Transmission speed is 2400bps for consideration of train speed, quantity of information, and data error rate. And this paper introduces information monitoring considering user interface and presents the method for an effective data transmission in MAGLEV which is now being tested and intends to provide for an intelligent train operation system in future.

Efficiency Analysis of Magnetic Resonance Wireless Power Transmission using Superconductor Coil According to the Changing Position of Transmission and Receiving Coils (초전도 코일을 적용한 자기공명방식 무선전력전송의 송·수신 코일 배열에 따른 효율 분석)

  • In this paper, we analyzed the efficiency of magnetic resonance wireless power transmission (WPT) using superconductor coil according to the changing position of transmission and receiving coils. We implemented a WPT system using a magnetic resonance at a frequency of 63.1 kHz. Transmission and receiving coils using superconductor coil were wound on a spiral manner of diameter 100mm. For comparison, transmission and receiving coils using normal conductor coil were designed under the same condition. At a distance of 50mm, we measured efficiency when transmission-receiving coils were matched 25%, 50%, 75% and 100%. When a superconductor coil was applied to the transmission and receiving units, efficiency of WPT was very high. In addition, in the case of the superconducting transmission-receiving coils, when coils matched 100% the efficiency was 30% and matched 25% the efficiency was 8%.

  • This article proposes a novel shift automation mechanism for an automated manual transmission (AMT). The development of an automated manual transmission is currently being paid considerable attention by vehicle manufacturers, with the prospects of combining the comfort of an automatic transmission and the high efficiency of a manual transmission. In order to automate the shift mechanism of a manual transmission, the proposed shift automation mechanism consists of two electric motors, cross shaped pinion gears, rack type shift rails, and a ball splined hollow shaft. First we describe the shift mechanism and operating principles of a manual transmission to investigate important design criteria for the shift automation device. And a new shift automation mechanism is described with its structure, elements, and operating principles in detail. Using a conventional manual transmission, we develop a full three-dimensional CAD model of an AMT which includes main components of the manual transmission and the designed shift automation mechanism. Finally we investigate the operating performances and feasibility of the designed AMT by a dynamic analysis.

  • Previous studies have selected wireless power transmission system using 2.45 GHz of ISM band, but the researches for 5.8 GHz microwave wireless power transmission have been relatively rare. The 5.8 GHz has some advantages compared with 2.45 GHz. Those are smaller antenna and smaller integrated system for RFIC. In this paper, the 5.8 GHz wireless power transmission system was developed and transmission efficiency was measured according to the distance. A transmitter sent the amplified microwaves through an antenna amplified by a power amplifier of 1W for 5.8 GHz, and a receiver was converted to DC from RF through a RF-DC Converter. In the 1W 5.8GHz wireless power transmission system, the converted currents and voltages were measured to evaluate transmission efficiency at each distance where LED lights up to 1m. The RF-DC Converter is designed and fabricated by impedance matching using full-wave rectifier circuit. The transmission-efficiency of the system shows from 1.05% at 0cm to 0.095% at 100cm by distance.

  • Ambient Adjusted line Rating(AAR) method for overhead transmission lines considering Risk Tolerance(RT) was proposed in this paper. AAR is suitable for system operators to plan their operation strategy and maintenance schedule because this can be designed as a seasonal line rating. Several candidate transmission lines are chosen to apply the proposed method in the paper. As a result, it is shown that system reliability was significantly enhanced through maximizing transfer capability, solving the system constraints.

Stability behavior of the transmission line system under incremental dynamic wind load

  • Wind load is the principal cause for a large number of the collapse of transmission lines around the world. The transmission line is traditionally designed for wind load according to a linear equivalent method, in which dynamic effects of wind are not appropriately included. Therefore, in the present study, incremental dynamic analysis is utilized to investigate the stability behavior of a 400 kV transmission line under wind load. In that case, the effects of vibration of cables and aerodynamic damping of cables were considered on the stability behavior of the transmission line. Superposition of the harmonic waves method was used to calculate the wind load. The corresponding wind speed to the beginning of the transmission line collapse was determined by incremental dynamic analysis. Also, the effect of the yawed wind was studied to determine the critical attack angle by the incremental dynamic method. The results show the collapse mechanisms of the transmission line and the maximum supportable wind speed, which is predicted 6m/s less than the design wind speed of the studied transmission line. Based on the numerical modeling results, a retrofitting method has been proposed to prevent failure of the tower members under design wind speed.
