With the advent of age that people spend more time and money on leisure activities, there is increasing interest in professional sport games. The location of large scale sport facilities has substantial impacts on existing transportation pattern because the facility attracts and generates massive traffic volume within a short period of time. This study aims to develop a mode choice model of leisure trips of which the destinations are a sport facility. A structured SP (stated preference) survey questionnaires were developed through an experimental design, and professional sport spectators were asked to state their preference in the choice of transport mode to the sport facility. The survey results show that public transportation is preferred to passenger cars for their trip to big sports event, implying that the convenience of back home trip after the event is an important factor of their mode choice. This study is a rare research on the trip pattern to sports complex in Korea, which provides policy implications on the provision of mass transit including subway system to large scale sport complexes. And it is also expected that this study contributes to future researches on leisure trip pattern.
Recently rapid-transit railway systems have been constructed in many developing countries due to its advantages in congestions and environmental problems. Railway bridges show many different aspects compared to road bridges and passenger comfort and traffic safety are one of them. In particular, deflection and acceleration due to repeated vibration characteristics have a structural weakness that can cause undesirable response. Especially steel railway bridges have been known to have weaknesses due to its relatively light weights compared to concrete bridges. The purpose of this study is to analyze the dynamic response of steel box girder bridges due to passing trains then propose the appropriate method to mitigate the level of vibration in terms of accelerations. Three steel railway bridges are tested and the numerical model to analyze the dynamic response of the bridge by passing train are developed. For the verification of the model, the natural frequency extracted using the acceleration data measured in the bridge is compared with the natural frequency of the numerical model. To mitigate the acceleration level of the bridge, parametric studies are performed to find the effectiveness of the method. Based on the analysis, the appropriate method is proposed for decreasing the acceleration of the bridge for passenger comfort and traffic safety.

This study analyzed passenger travel patterns especially for the transfer from metro to bus by using transit smart card data. We classified three types of land use such as residential, business, and shopping area where metro stations are located. The results show that more number of transfers was observed at residential area compared to that of shopping and business area. Also, more number of transfers from metro to arterial bus was observed than that of transfers to local bus. Further, the high number of transfers to arterial bus was observed at business and shopping area. This means that the transfer to bus at metro stations varies by land use. The egress walk distance from metro station was found to be approximately 400 meters and the average walk distance of young people was found to be shorter than that of the old.
When we introduce the BRT systems, it is very important to decide the operating factors, such as bus-stop locations or headway. If the factors are inappropriate, unessential expenses for the operator and users of the bus line may be caused, and it leads increase of social total cost. So, it is necessary that we consider users' origin and destination of each bus line when we set location of bus-stops and the optimal headway. Meanwhile, Smart Card System was introduced of fare collection for the Public Transportation Reform in Seoul last year. This new card system makes it possible to store up the information about bus operating and passenger's trip link. With these substantial information. we can estimate bus-stop-based O-D table. So, in this thesis, it was studied a systematic methodology to find the optimal location and headway for skip-stop bus system (as a type of first step for BRT). The proposed methodology in this thesis is expected to be useful to effect analysis or setting operating factors for skip-stop bus system in each bus line.
As sustainable growth has been emphasized in the field of transportation, the railway system has been promoted as an environmentally-friendly transport mode. However, mode shifts from other transport modes to railway have been sluggish. In this context, to enhance the understanding of railway's competitive advantages and disadvantages, this research evaluates travelers'preferences for public transport modes for inter-regional trips: such understanding should make it possible to formulate effective policy for promoting railways. To this end, passenger recognition of competitive transport modes has been measured by applying multidimensional scaling analysis for six major inter-regional public transport services - KTX, ITX-Samaeul, Mugunghwa-ho, premium express bus, general express bus, and airline. As a result, we can conceptualize the recognition similarity in two-dimensional space, and understand how travelers perceive the six major transport modes.
The articulated structures seen in train or tram applications are being applied in road transportation systems, for use in mass passenger transit. When articulated vehicles are driven on public roads, they no longer follow a guided track. Therefore, there are a lot of control elements that need to be considered, such as turning radius, swept path width, off-tracking, and swing-out. Some of the currently available articulated vehicles on roads are equipped with an independent drive system; a system that has one motor at each wheel. Through this drive system, each wheel can be independently controlled, making precise and quick dynamic stability control possible. In this paper, we propose a torque distribution algorithm that can reduce the overall turning radius of the articulated vehicle, which has been verified through dynamic simulation.

The smart card data stores the transit usage records of individual passengers. By using this, it is possible to analyze the traffic demand by station and time. However, since the purpose of the trip is not recorded in the smart card data, the demand for each purpose such as commuting, school, and leisure is estimated based on the survey data. Since survey data includes only some samples, it is difficult to predict public transport demand for each purpose close to the complete enumeration survey. In this study, we estimates the purposes of trip for individual passengers using the smart card data corresponding to the complete enumeration survey of public transportation. We estimated trip purposes such as commute, school(university) considering frequency of O-D, duration, and departure time of a passenger. Based on this, the passengers are classified as workers and university students. In order to verify our methodology, we compared the estimation results of our study with the patterns of the survey data.
In recent years, the "social distance" has drastically reduced overseas travelers. On the other hand, for personal safety and security, it is expected that interest and demand for CCTV, electric alarm and signaling devices, electric diagnostics and medical devices will increase significantly. The purpose of this paper is to find out the effect of airport transfer passengers and exports of CCTV, electrical diagnostics and medical devices, electrical alarms and signaling devices on exports to Korea, and the synchronism of each variable. To this end, this study used a total of 231 monthly data from January 2000 to April 2020 in the National Statistics Service. As a result of empirical analysis, CCTV and electrical diagnostics and medical devices showed relatively high synchronization with respect to exports to Korea. Electric alarms & signaling devices and transit passengers also showed a certain level of synchronization with exports, but were relatively weak.

Seoul Metropolitan Urban Railroad has an undecided route that does not estimate the passenger transportation route. For this reason, the fare of the urban railroad is calculated by the assumption that passengers pass through the minimum distance. Therefore, if a transfer station on the urban railroad is added, the trip shortest distance could be decreased and the fare also reduced. In this study, this phenomenon defines the fare paradox(Shin, 2022) and estimates the impact of the fare paradox by opening the GTX-A. For this purpose, a scenario before and after the opening of the GTX-A has been established, and an additional fare has been estimated by proportional planning of the Seoul Metropolitan Integrated Distance Based Fare Policy. Fare Paradox was analyzed to about 0.024 % of daily income. It is expected to be used as a plan to determine a rate policy, such as the establishment of a GTX-A, B, C, D, and a light rail line.

Many studies on bus scheduling optimization have been done from the 1960s to recent years for establishing rational bus schedule plan that can improve convenience of bus passengers and minimize unnecessary runs. After 2000, as part of the Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS), the importance of the schedule management and providing schedule information through bus schedule optimization has become a big issue, and much research is being done to develop optimization models that will increase bus passenger convenience and, on the side of bus management, minimize unnecessary bus operation. The purpose of this study is to calculate the optimal bus frequency and create a timetable for each bus stop by applying DTR or DTRC model that use data for each bus stop and route segment. Model verification process was implemented using data collected from bus management system (BMS) and integrated transit-fare card system for bus route of Seoul's No. 472 line. In order to evaluate the reliability and uncertainty of optimal solution, sensitivity analysis was implemented for the various parameters and assumptions used in the bus scheduling model.
