  • In this study, a battery charge and discharge regulator of modular type is designed as paralleled bi-directional converter that is possible to provide the power without failure not only in the steady state but also in the transient period by the step load variation or the unexpected faults among the converter modules. Each converter module is designed to get stability, performance, reliability, and maintainability and the average current mode method used for controller has the advantages such as noise immunity, fast response, and the real average current signal acquisition. The equivalent model and small signal model for the paralleled battery chargerIdischarger are presented, and also the transfer functions are analyzed for the CCM(Continuous Charge Mode), CDM(Continuous Discharge Mode) and DDM(Discontinuous Discharge Mode). The experiments of the paralleled bi-directional converter are carried out in the step load variation, and in faults of one converter module respectively. And the performance of paralleled bi-directional converter is verified via the experimental results.

  • A general goal of the AT%(Asynchronous Transfer Mode) network is to support connect across various network. On ATM networks, ABR services are provided using the remained ban after allocation CBR and VBR traffic. Realtime services such as transmitting audio or video data may be provided using CBR ado VBR which have a constrained transmission delay, but in these cases, the communications bandwidth may be wasted. In this paper a simulation has been performed to compare and evaluate the performance between the ERICA(Explicit Rate Indicate Avoidance) and EPRCA(Enhanced Proportional Rate Control Algorithm) switches which use Explicit Rate switch algorithm for ABR switch. The variation of the ACR at the source end system, the queue length, the utilization rate of the link bandwidth and the share fairness at the transient and steady states are used as the evaluation criteria for the simulation. As a result of simulation, ERICA algorithm switch was ten times long compared to ERPCA switch to achieve assigned fair share. so EPRCA switch is superior to ERICA about load response. For Fair share and stability, ERICA switch is excellent to EPRCA switch.

  • Besides using for hair removal, depilatory agents have been considered to be used as a penetration enhancer for transepidermal drug delivery. To examine the effect in hair follicles (HFs), two commercially available depilatory creams were tested on the dorsal skin of mice to monitor the effect deep into the skin structure. Fifteen male BALB/c mice were used in this study. Depilatory creams were applied to the dorsal skin of the same animal using shaved and untouched treatments as controls to minimize individual differences. Skin samples were collected at three days, one week and two weeks (n = 5 for each) after the treatment, and subjected for hematoxylin-eosin staining, and immunohistochemical analysis for proinflammatory cytokines. The morphological examination showed an increase in the thickness of epidermal layer of the depilatory cream-treated skin at early time points and in the subcutis at two weeks. Depilatory cream promoted entry of anagen phase and increased the number of hair follicles in the subcutis at one and two weeks. Immunohistochemistry showed elevated percentages of dermal fibroblasts expressing interleukin-6, tumor necrosis factor-α, and tumor necrosis factor-β. Shaving process increased the thickness of epidermis and dermis as depilatory creams did, but did neither induce the expression of proinflammatory cytokines in the dermal fibroblasts nor the number of HFs. The results suggested that the commercially available depilatory creams caused a transient minor inflammatory response of the skin and increased the levels of cytokines that might subsequently affect hair growth.

  • To obtain the dynamic characteristics of reactor secondary circuit under transient conditions, the system analysis program was developed in this study, where dynamic models of secondary circuit were established. The heat transfer process and the mechanical energy transfer process are modularized. Models of main equipment were built, including main turbine, condenser, steam pipe and feedwater system. The established models were verified by design value. The simulation of the secondary circuit system was conducted based on the verified models. The system response and characteristics were investigated based on the parameter transients under emergency shutdown and overload. Various operating conditions like turbine emergency shutdown and overspeed, condenser high water level, ejector failures were studied. The secondary circuit system ensures sufficient design margin to withstand the pressure and flow fluctuations. The adjustment of exhaust valve group could maintain the system pressure within a safe range, at the expense of steam quality. The condenser could rapidly take out most heat to avoid overpressure.

  • The main target of this study is to investigate nonlinear transient responses of moving polymer nano-size plates fortified by means of Graphene Platelets (GPLs) and resting on a Winkler-Pasternak foundation under a transverse pressure force and a temperature variation. Two graphene spreading forms dispersed through the plate thickness are studied, and the Halpin-Tsai micro-mechanics model is used to obtain the effective Young's modulus. Furthermore, the rule of mixture is employed to calculate the effective mass density and Poisson's ratio. In accordance with the first order shear deformation and von Karman theory for nonlinear systems, the kinematic equations are derived, and then nonlocal strain gradient scheme is used to reflect the effects of nonlocal and strain gradient parameters on small-size objects. Afterwards, a combined approach, kinetic dynamic relaxation method accompanied by Newmark technique, is hired for solving the time-varying equation sets, and Fortran program is developed to generate the numerical results. The accuracy of the current model is verified by comparative studies with available results in the literature. Finally, a parametric study is carried out to explore the effects of GPL's weight fractions and dispersion patterns, edge conditions, softening and hardening factors, the temperature change, the velocity of moving nanoplate and elastic foundation stiffness on the dynamic response of the structure. The result illustrates that the effects of nonlocality and strain gradient parameters are more remarkable in the higher magnitudes of the nanoplate speed.

  • Objective : We have currently changed treatment strategies to methotrexate(MTX)-based preirradiation chemotherapy with subsequent planned radiation for the initial therapy of primary central nervous system lymphoma (PCNSL). The aim of this study was to evaluate the results of treating PCNSL with chemotherapy plus radiotherapy (CRT) or radiotherapy(RT) alone. Method and Material : This study involved 10 females and 3 males patients with a mean age of 54.2 years. All patients underwent surgery, open(8 cases) or stereotactic biopsy(5 cases) for histological diagnosis. Eleven tumors were diffuse large B-cell lymphomas. Tumor volume change in the follow-up images and survival time were evaluated in patients treated with CRT and RT alone. In the beginning, two patients received ProMACE-Cytabom chemotherapeutic regimen, but did not complete the course and died of progressive tumor 8 and 9 months after diagnosis, respectively. One patient died at 6 months before chemotherapy. These three were excluded from the survival analysis. Five patients(RT group) completed full courses of cranial irradiation with or without boost. For the current combined modality treatment, high-dose MTXbased chemotherapy(systemic and intrathecal MTX, IV vincristine, and oral procarbazine) followed by whole brain irrdiation to 45Gy to tumor was introduced in 5 patients of CRT group. Result : A complete response was achieved in three of five who received RT only and in all of five who received CRT. All patients in CRT groups are in disease free status at a mean 23 months following therapy. The RT group patients refused any additional salvage therapy at tumor relapse and survived at mean 20 months from diagnosis. The Karnofsky performance status improved in eight of ten patients with treatment. The treatment toxicity included leukoencephalopathy in RT group and severe leukopenia, transient hepatitis, avascular necrosis of femoral head, hearing loss, and amenorrhea in CRT group, respectively. Conclusion : The combined modality therapy of MTX-based chemotherapy plus radiotherapy for PCNSL may enhance tumor response and improve patient survival. The patients who received CRT should be carefully followed up because of the higher risk of treatment-induced late neurotoxicity.

  • Thermal response induced from nonlinear temperature distribution in composite box gilder bridges depends on several variables(environmental conditions, physical and material properties, location and orientation of bridge, and cross-section geometry). In this paper, parametric study are conducted in order to find the effects of variations of seasons, location and orientation of bridge, sectional geometry and some material properties on the axial deformation, curvature and stresses in composite box girder bridge. A two-dimensional transient finite element model to conduct this parametric studies is briefly presented. Firstly, the effects of the parameters on the diurnal variation of curvature are considered, and for the time of maximum curvature, on the distribution of temperature and stresses of composite box girder sectional are considered. Finally, some considerations about the influence of the parameters on the daily maximum values of axial deformation, curvature and stresses are carried out. The influence of thermal effect on structures is important as much as the influence of live or dead load in some cases. In the design of steel composite bridges, the thermal stresses calculated on the supposition that the temperature difference between the concrete slab and steel girder is $10^{\circ}C$ and the temperature distributions are uniform in concrete slab and steel girder can be underestimated.

  • The purpose of this paper is to evaluate the shear stiffness, hysteretic behavior, and ultimate behavior of HDRB(High Damping Rubber Bearing), which will be included in the seismic isolation design guideline as requirements. To do this, two 1/8 scaled HDRB are designed, fabricated, and tested to show the mechanical characteristics. The shear stiffness obtained from the proposed equation of the shear stiffness shows a good agreement with those of the experiments. For analysis of the hysteretic behavior of HDRB using the modified rate model, the parameter equations are obtained from the experiments. Using the obtained parameter equations for the modified rate model, the seismic response analyses are carried out for 1-D system. The results of analysis well follow the hysteretic behavior of HDRB obtained from the experiments. To evaluate the ultimate behavior of HDRB used in this paper, the analyses are carried out using the modified macro model, which can consider the large shear deflection. The critical shear strain(CSS) is defined to express the maximum allowable shear strain and vertical load. From the analyses, the CSS, showing the instability, decreases significantly as increased the vertical loads. The CSS is not appeared for the design vertical load in the used HDRB. In analysis using about 5 times of design vertical load, the HDRB start to show the instability transient and for about 7 times, the CSS is about 350%.

  • The proton exchange membrane (PEM) fuel cell system is critically dependent on the humidity, which should be properly maintained over the entire operating range. A membrane humidifier is used for the water management in the PEMFC because of the membrane humidifier's reliable performance and zero parasitic power loss. In the PEMFC system, the membrane humidifier is required to provide appropriate humidity for the design point of the fuel cell. Although the performance of the fuel cell depends on the performance of the humidifier, few studies have provided a systematic analysis of the humidifier. We carry out an experimental analysis of the membrane humidifier using a vapor condensation bottle. The dry air pressure, water flow temperature, and air flow rate were chosen as the operating parameters. The results show that the time constant for the dynamic response of the membrane humidifier is relatively short, but additional analysis should be carried out.

  • Bird-strike is one of the most important design factors for safety in the aviation industry. Bird-strikes have been the cause of significant damage to aircraft and rotorcraft structures and the loss of life. This study used DYTRAN software to simulate the transient response of an Euler-Lagrangian composite helicopter blade that has been impacted by a bird. The Arbitrary Lagrangian Eulerian (ALE) method and a suitable equation of state were applied to model the bird. ALE was applied to the bird-strike analysis due to the large difference between the properties of the blade and bird. The debris of the bird was assumed to be a fluid and applied as Euler elements after the collision. Through the analysis of bird impacts, the leading-edge of the rotor blade (50.8 mm) was used to identify a positive margin of 1.18 based on the TSAI-FILL criteria. The results are assessed to be sufficiently reliable and may be evaluated to replace tests with various analysis conditions. The structural stability of the rotor blade could be assessed by applying various load conditions and different modeling methods in the future.
