  • In this study, we propose an automatic contrast enhancement method based on transfer function modification (TFM) by histogram equalization. Previous histogram-based global contrast enhancement techniques employ histogram modification, whereas we propose a direct TFM technique that considers the mean brightness of an image during contrast enhancement. The mean point shifting method using a transfer function is proposed to preserve the mean brightness of an image. In addition, the linearization of transfer function technique, which has a histogram flattening effect, is designed to reduce visual artifacts. An attenuation factor is automatically determined using the maximum value of the probability density function in an image to control its rate of contrast. A new quantitative measurement method called sparsity of a histogram is proposed to obtain a better objective comparison relative to previous global contrast enhancement methods. According to our experimental results, we demonstrated the performance of our proposed method based on generalized measures and the newly proposed measurement.

  • We investigate the spin transfer torque in metallic multilayer system by employing Keldysh non-equilibrium Green function method. We study the dependences of the spin transfer torque on the detailed energy configuration of ferromagnetic, spacer, and lead layers. With Keldysh non-equilibrium Green function method applied to a single band model, we explore spin transfer torque effect in various layer structures and for various material parameters.

  • As a method of obtaining pulse transfer function. transfer function of discrete-time from input-output data, there are method of obtaining unknown parameter of pulse transfer function from estimated impulse response before(1-3). There is no need to approximate to several meanings because of not being established algebraical relations between impulse response for estimation error and parameter of transfer function exactly. In this paper, I inquire the method[4] of obtaining the optimal pulse transfer function as a meaning of Hankel norm approximation from impulse response data and examine estimated property as computer simulation from this method.

  • A new method using a transfer function is introduced in the present paper for analyzing the motion errors of hydrostatic bearing tables. The relationship between film reaction force in a single-side hydrostatic pad and the form error of guide rail is derived at various spatial frequencies by finite element analysis, and it is expressed as a transfer function. This transfer function clarifies so called 'the averaging effect of an oil film' quantitively. It is found that the amplitude of film force is reduced as the spatial frequency increases or the relative width of the pocket is reduced. The motion errors of a multi pad type table are estimated using a transfer function, the form errors of a guide rail and the geometric relationship between the pads. The method is named as the Transfer Function Method (TFM). The motion errors calculated by the TFM show good agreement with the motion errors calculated by the Multi Pad Method considering the entire table as an analysis object. From the results, it is confirmed that the proposed TFM is very effective to analyze the motion errors of hydrostatic tables.

  • This paper is concerned with the simplification of complex linear time-invariant systems. A simple technique is suggested using the well-known least squares method in the frequency domain. Given a high-order transfer function in the s- or z-domain, the squared-gain function corresponding to a low-order model is computed by the least squares method. Then, the low-order transfer function is obtained through the factorization. Three examples are given to illustrate the efficiency of the proposed method.

  • In many case of optimal design and sensitivity analysis, obtaining of transfer function between input and output variables is a difficult and time-consuming problem. The bond graph modeling is a method that is used for making it easy to analyze complex systems composed of mechanical and electrical parts. It gives us a simple and systematic tool to get state-space equations easily. And we can obtain the transfer function graphically using bond graph and Mason's rule. This paper shows how bond graphs are converted to block diagram and how Mason's rule is applied. And the simple direct method to obtain transfer function from bond graph is introduced. As a example, induction of transfer function of electric power steering composed of mechanical and electrical parts will be done.

  • The transfer function method is a widely used in the analysis of underwater radiated noise of ships because it is simple to implement and gives a simple way in the design stage requiring trade-off studies on various kinds of noise sources. In this study, a framework is implemented based on the transfer function method. The framework is interfaced to a software providing transfer functions of hull force to underwater radiated noise. The transfer function-based underwater radiated noise analysis approach is reviewed and the implemented framework structure is described. As an example, a numerical calculation of a virtual ship is carried out and its results are investigated in terms of applicability to real ship design project.

  • A new model utilizing a transfer function is introduced in the present paper for analizing motion errors of hydrostatic tables. Relationship between film reaction force in a single hydrostatic pad and form error of a guide rail is derived at various spacial frequencies by finite element analysis, and it is expressed as a transfer function. This transfer function clarifies so called averaging effect of the oil film quantitively. For example, it is found that the amplitide of the film reaction farce is reduced as the spacial frequency increases or relative width of the pocket is reduced. Motion errors of a multiple pad table is estimated from transfer function, geomatric relationship between each pads and form errors of a guide rail, which is named as Transfer Function Method(TFM). Calculated motion errors by TFM show good agreement with motion errors calculated by Multi Pad Method, which is considered entire table as an analysis object. From the results, it is confirmed that the proposed TFM is very effective to analyze the motion errors of hydrostatic tables.

  • A new analytic method for the identification of process control system is presented. A second and a third order transfer function are considered as the estimated model function. For the second order transfer function, the new method is compared with the exisiting ones, simulation results show that the new method is superior to the existing ones. And also, In case of the third order transfer function which is difficult to analyze mathematically, system identification is tried.

  • The performance of a staring infrared imaging system can be characterized based on estimating the modulation transfer function (MTF). The slant edge method is a widely used MTF estimation method, which can effectively solve the aliasing problem caused by the discrete undersampling of the infrared focal plane array. However, the traditional slant edge method has some limitations such as the low precision of the edge angle extraction and using the approximate function to fit the edge spread function (ESF), which affects the accuracy of the MTF estimation. In this paper, we propose a modified slant edge method, including an edge angle extraction method that can improve the precision of the edge angle extraction and an ESF fitting algorithm which is based on the transfer function model of the imaging system, to enhance the accuracy of the MTF estimation. This modified slant edge method presents higher estimation accuracy and better immunity to noise and edge angle than other traditional methods, which is demonstrated by the simulation and application experiments operated in our study.
