This paper describes an efficient optimal design method for an arrayed waveguide grating (AWG) having MMI coupler with flattened transfer function. The objective function is the norm of the difference between calculated and target spectra. To analyze the AWG transfer function, the Fresnel-Kirchhof diffraction formula was employed and the design variable was optical path difference of each array waveguide. The (1+1) Evolution Strategy was applied to an eight-channel coarse wavelength division multiplexing (CWDM) AWG as the optimization tool. For obtaining a broadened spectrum, we use a MMI coupler and the variation in optical path difference at each array waveguide changes the shape of the transfer function to obtain the optimal spectrum shape.

This study proposes an enhanced switching pattern that can improve energy transfer efficiency in an active cell-balancing circuit using a multiwinding transformer. This balancing circuit performs cell balancing by transferring energy stored in a specific cell with high energy to another cell containing low energy through a multiwinding transformer. The circuit operates in flyback and buck-boost modes in accordance with the energy transfer path. In the conventional flyback mode, the leakage inductance of the transformer and the stray inductance component of winding can transfer energy to an undesired path during the balancing operation. This case results in cell imbalance during the cell-balancing process, which reduces the energy transfer efficiency. An enhanced switching pattern that can effectively perform cell balancing by minimizing the amount of energy transferred to the nontarget cells due to the leakage inductance components in the flyback mode is proposed. Energy transfer efficiency and balancing speed can be significantly improved using the proposed switching pattern compared with that using the conventional switching pattern. The performance improvements are verified by experiments using a 1 W prototype cell-balancing circuit.

In this study, the heat transfer process around the finned channel tubes is numerically examined. Serially arranged tubes of an evaporator were used for heat exchange. The numerical analysis results confirmed that the vortex generated at the rear of the channel pipe was caused by the fin. Furthermore, it was also confirmed that the temperature difference was large between the inlet and outlet ends of the fin. The temperature of the location where the fin was attached to the channel pipe was found to be close to the surface temperature of the channel wall. However, the temperature rose rapidly closer to the ambient air temperature of 350 K towards the fin end, located at a distance of 0.035 m; it was found to have a significant influence on the heat transfer around the fin-attached channel tube. The wider the vertical flow path, the lower the total heat transfer coefficient. However, the overall heat transfer coefficient increased as the horizontal flow path narrowed. The increment is attributed to an increase in the heat transfer amount due to increased heat transfer surface.

In smart card data, movement of railway passengers appears in order of smart card terminal ID. The initial terminal ID holds information on the entering station's tag-in railway line, the final terminal ID the exit station tag-out railway line, and the middle terminal ID the transfer station tag subway line. During the past, when the metropolitan city rail consisted of three public corporations (Seoul Metro, Incheon Transit Corporation, and Korail), OD data was expressed in two metrics of initial and final smart card terminal ID. Recently, with the entrance of private corporations like Shinbundang Railroad Corporation, and UI Corporation, inclusion of entering transfer line terminal ID and exiting transfer line terminal ID as part of Chain OD has become standard. Exact route construction using Chain OD has thus become integral as basic data for revenue allocation amongst metropolitan railway transport corporations. Accordingly, path detection in railway networks has evolved to an optimal path detection problem using Chain OD, hence calling for a renewed solution method. This research proposes an optimal path detection method between the initial terminal ID and final terminal ID of Chain OD terminal IDs within the railway network. Here, private line transfer TagIn/Out must be reflected in optimal path detection using Chain OD. To achieve this, three types of link-based optimum path detection methods are applied in order of 1. node-link, 2. link-link, 3. link-node. The method proposed based on additional path costs is shown to satisfy the optimal conditions.
This study investigates the flow efficiency and temperature based on flow path shape. Five models are designed to the no flow path, one flow path, two flow path, three flow path, add inlet flow path and add interior space gradient. Results show that two flow model(add inlet flow path and add interior space gradient), It was confirmed that model(add inlet flow path) is the optimal shape for coolant heat transfer, and model(add interior space gradient) is the optimal shape for coolant flow, demonstrates optimal design among the five models. The results of this study can be utilized to efficiently control the coolant flow through various types of flow paths.

Schedule-based public transit routing algorithm computes a single route that calculated minimum travel time using the departure and arrival times for each stop according to vehicle operation plan. However, additional factors such as transfer resistance and alternative route choice are not reflected in the path finding process. Therefore, this paper proposes a improved RAPTOR that reflected transfer resistance and multi-path searching. Transfer resistance is applied at the time of transfer and different values can be set according to type of transit mode. In this study, we analyzed the algorithm's before and after results compared with actual route of passengers. It is confirmed that the proposed algorithm reflects the various route selection criteria of passengers.
In this paper, an ATC(Automated Transfer Crane) control system is required rapid transportation to get highest productivity with low cost. Therefore, the container paths should be built in terms of the least time and least sway when container is transferred from the initial coordinate to the finial coordinate. So we applied the best-first search method for forming the container path, and calculated the anti-collision path for avoiding collision in its movement to the finial coordinate. And we constructed the neural network two degree of freedom PID (TDOFPID) controller to control the precise navigation. For simulation, we constructed the container profiles so that we analyzed the state of formed path and the performance of TDOFPID controller to the formatted path. Then we compared the performance of ES-tuned PID controller with our proposed controller in terms of trolley position, anti-sway, path change, disturbance, and the load of containers. The computer simulation results show that the proposed controller has better the other on the various conditions.

Nodes on a data communication path in a wireless network emit electro-magnetic waves whenever they transmit packets; thus, the path can be exposed and identified with capturing and analyzing a sequence of the signals emitted there. One of countermeasures against a malicious eavesdropper is to let certain nodes mimic the nodes on the data path in sending dummy packets. In this paper we propose a packet transfer protocol which establishes the shortest path between source-destination pair a time and restricts heavy generation of dummy packets. We verify the location-privacy of a node on the communication paths through simulation.

Vehicle washer heater system is more widely adopted to defrost a window or to clear the windshield glass in winter season. The washer heater system should be designed to heat up washer fluid rapidly to the target temperature for only a short time. A numerical analysis has been carried out to analyze the heat transfer characteristics with materials of inside parts in vehicle washer heater system with filler and flow path. ANSYS - FLUENT software is employed for the analysis. The axial symmetry model is three-dimensional and unsteady. It applies to the coupled method which is one of pressure based. Through this result, it was obtained to find the optimal material condition for the filler and flow path in washer system. For material of filler, the air with lower density was heated more rapidly rather than silicon carbide(SiC). For material of flow path, copper with the heat transfer coefficient of approximately four times greater than the nickel gives us higher efficiency. That is the reason why the heating time of methanol was reduced to make uniform temperature in washer heater system.
This study was performed to evaluate the prediction capability of a commercial CFD code and to investigate the effects of different geometries such as a 4.4 mm tube and an 8/10 mm annular channel on the detailed flow structures. A numerical simulation was performed for the conditions, at which the experimental data was produced by the test facility SPHINX. A 2-dimensional axisymmetric steady flow was assumed for computational simplicity. The RNG $\kappa-\varepsilon$ turbulence model (RNG) with an enhanced wall treatment option, SST $\kappa-\omega$ (SST) and low Reynolds Abid turbulence model (ABD) were employed and the numerical predictions were compared with the experimental data generated from the experiment. The effects of the geometry on heat transfer were investigated. The flow and temperature fields were also examined in order to investigate the mechanism of heat transfer near the wall. The local heat transfer coefficient predicted by the RNG model is very close to the measurement result for the tube. In contrast, the local heat transfer coefficient predicted by the SST and ABD models is closer to the measurement for the annular channel.
