  • The acoustical performance of porous materials is determined by their seven or more macroscopic physical properties. However, it is not easy to measure all these properties in many cases. Furthermore, the measurement is compels engineers to spend much times. The effect of each property on the normal incidence absorption coefficient and normalized surface impedance was studied to estimate the properties of porous materials by numerical method. According to the investigation, Properties of porous materials are divided into several groups and estimated by each group. This paper is focused on the estimation procedure of porous materials by the numerical method.

  • A state space differential reproducing kernel (DRK) method is developed for the three-dimensional (3D) analysis of functionally graded material (FGM) axisymmetric circular plates with simply-supported and clamped edges. The strong formulation of this 3D elasticity axisymmetric problem is derived on the basis of the Reissner mixed variational theorem (RMVT), which consists of the Euler-Lagrange equations of this problem and its associated boundary conditions. The primary field variables are naturally independent of the circumferential coordinate, then interpolated in the radial coordinate using the early proposed DRK interpolation functions, and finally the state space equations of this problem are obtained, which represent a system of ordinary differential equations in the thickness coordinate. The state space DRK solutions can then be obtained by means of the transfer matrix method. The accuracy and convergence of this method are examined by comparing their solutions with the accurate ones available in the literature.

  • To study numerically the mechanical behaviors of advanced composite materials considering the microscopic phenomena as well as the macroscopic properties and behaviors, a multi-scale modeling and analysis by the mathematical homogenization method with the help of the finite element method(FEM) are reviewed. The hierarchical modeling strategy and the formulation are briefly described first to give some idea of the multi-scale framework. The latter half of this article focuses on the verification of the multi-scale analysis by the homogenization method in its applications to real advanced materials. The first example is the verification of the predicted macroscopic(homogenized) properties based on the microstructure of porous ceramics. In spite of the complexity of the random microstructure, the error between the predicted and the measured values was only 1%. Next, two applications to the process simulation of fiber reinforced polymer matrix composites are presented. The permeability characteristics are evaluated for sheared weave fabrics for resin transfer molding(RTM) simulation, and the thermoforming of FRTP sheet is analyzed considering the large deformation of the knit structure during the deep-draw forming was verified by comparison with the experimental results.

  • A new large-scale network geometric analysis is introduced. For a large-scale circuit, it must be analyzed with a geometric diagram and figure. So many equations are induced from a geometric loop-node diagram. The results are arranged into a simple matrix, of course. In case of constructing a network diagram, it is not easy to handle voltage and current sources together. Geometric loop analysis is related to voltage sources, and node analysis is to current sources. The reciprocal transfer is possible only to have series or parallel impedance. If not having this impedance, in order to obtain equivalent circuit, many equations must be derived. In this paper a loop-reduction method is proposed. With this method current source branch is included into the other branch, and disappears in circuit diagram. So the number of independent circuit equations are reduced as much as that of current sources. The number is not (b-n+1), but (b-n+1-p). Where p is the number of current sources. The reduction procedure is verified with a geometric principle and circuit theory. A resultant matrix can be constructed directly from this diagram structure, not deriving circuit equations. We will obtain the last results with the help of a computer.

  • In Resin transfer molding (RTM), composite parts are produced by impregnation of a dry reinforcement with liquid matrix resin. Permeability is a key issue in this process. For thin parts, the resin flow in the thickness direction can be neglected. Therefore thin parts are considered as two-dimensional composites. However the resin flow through the thickness is important to thicker parts and we have to consider out-of-plane permeability. This work discusses a method to measure out-of-plane permeability. The flow rate and pressure drop across the porous media were measured. Also one dimensional form of Darcy's law is applied to calculate the out-of-plane permeability of various preforms. The flow is injected uniformly into layers of the preform. And a circular fiber mat with 6cm diameter was cut and flattened from cylindrical mandrel.

  • Multi-walled carbon nanotube (MWCNT)/epoxy composites are prepared by a vacuum assisted resin transfer molding (VARTM) method. The mechanical properties, fracture surface morphologies, and thermal stabilities of these nanocomposites are evaluated for epoxy resins with various amounts of MWCNTs. Composites consisting of different amounts of MWCNTs displayed an increase of the work of adhesion between the MWCNTs and the matrix, which improved both the tensile and impact strengths of the composites. The tensile and impact strengths of the MWCNT/epoxy composite improved by 59 and 562% with 0.3 phr of MWCNTs, respectively, compared to the epoxy composite without MWCNTs. Thermal stability of the 0.3 phr MWCNT/epoxy composite increased compared to other epoxy composites with MWCNTs. The enhancement of the mechanical and thermal properties of the MWCNT/epoxy nanocomposites is attributed to improved dispersibility and strong interfacial interaction between the MWCNTs and the epoxy in the composites prepared by VARTM.

  • The high-pressure resin transfer molding (HP-RTM) process has a very effective for the mass production of carbon fiber reinforced plastic (CFRP) for light weight in the automotive industry. In developing robust equipment, new process and fast cure matrix systems reduces significantly the cycle time less than 5 minutes in recent years. This paper describes the cavity pressure, temperature and molding characteristics of the HP-RTM process. The HP-RTM mold was equipped with two cavity pressure sensors and three temperature sensors. The cavity pressure characteristics of the HP-RTM injection, pressurization, and curing processes were studied. This experiment was conducted with selected process parameters such as mold cap size, maximum press force, and injection volume. Consequently, this monitoring method provides correlations between the selected process parameters and final forming characteristics in this work.

  • A finite element model is developed for the process of squeeze casting of metal matrix composites (MMCs) in cylindrical molds. The fluid flow and the heat transit. are fundamental phenomena in squeeze casting. To describe heat transfer in the solidification of molten aluminum, the energy equation is written in terms of temperature and enthalpy are applied in an axisymmetric model which is similar to the experimental system. A one dimensional flow model simulates the transient metal flow. A direct iteration technique was used to solve the resulting nonlinear algebraic equations, using a computer program to calculate the enthalpy, temperature and fluid velocity. The cooling curves and temperature distribution during infiltration and solidification were calculated fer pure aluminum. Experimentally, the temperature was measured and recorded using thermocouple wire. The measured time-temperature data were compared with the calculated cooling curves. The resulting agreement shows that the finite element model can accurately estimate the solidification time and predict the cooling process.

  • The maintenance of semiconductor equipment is crucial for the continuous growth of the semiconductor market. System management is imperative given the anticipated increase in the capacity and complexity of industrial equipment. Ensuring optimal operation of manufacturing processes is essential to maintaining a steady supply of numerous parts. Particularly, monitoring the status of substrate transfer robots, which play a central role in these processes, is crucial. Diagnosing failures of their major components is vital for preventive maintenance. Fault diagnosis methods can be broadly categorized into physics-based and data-driven approaches. This study focuses on data-driven fault diagnosis methods due to the limitations of physics-based approaches. We propose a methodology for data acquisition and preprocessing for robot fault diagnosis. Data is gathered from vibration sensors, and the data preprocessing method is applied to the vibration signals. Subsequently, the dataset is trained using Gradient Tree-based XGBoost machine learning classification algorithms. The effectiveness of the proposed model is validated through performance evaluation metrics, including accuracy, F1 score, and confusion matrix. The XGBoost classifiers achieve an accuracy of approximately 92.76% and an equivalent F1 score. ROC curves indicate exceptional performance in class discrimination, with 100% discrimination for the normal class and 98% discrimination for abnormal classes.
