This paper proposes a method for measurement three-dimensional trajectories of bubbles generated around a swimmer's arms from stereo high-speed camera videos. This method is based on two techniques: two-dimensional trajectory estimation in single-camera images and trajectory pair matching in stereo-camera images. The two-dimensional trajectory is estimated by block matching using similarity of bubble shape and probability of bubble displacement. The trajectory matching is achieved by a consistensy test using epipolar constraint in multiple frames. The experimental results in two-dimensional trajectory estimation showed the estimation accuracy of 47% solely by the general optical flow estimation, whereas 71% taking the bubble displacement into consideration. This concludes bubble displacement is an efficient aspect in this estimation. In three-dimensional trajectory estimation, bubbles were visually captured moving along the flow generated by an arm; which means an efficient material for swimmers to swim faster.
The intelligent trajectory control method that controls moving direction and average velocity for a prosthetic arm is proposed by pattern recognition and force estimations using EMG signals. Also, we propose the real time trajectory planning method which generates continuous accelleration paths using 3 stage linear filters to minimize the impact to human body induced by arm motions and to reduce the muscle fatigue. We use combination of MLP and fuzzy filter for pattern recognition to estimate the direction of a muscle and Hogan's method for the force estimation. EMG signals are acquired by using a amputation simulator and 2 dimensional joystick motion. The simulation results of proposed prosthetic arm control system using the EMG signals show that the arm is effectively followed the desired trajectory depended on estimated force and direction of muscle movements.
This paper uses a recursive least squares method to estimate the projectile motion trajectory of an object in real time. The equations of motion of the object are obtained considering the air resistance which occurs in the actual experiment environment. Because these equations consider air resistance, parameter estimation of nonlinear terms is required. However, nonlinear recursive least squares estimation is not suitable for estimating trajectory of projectile in that it requires a lot of computation time. Therefore, parameter estimation for real-time trajectory prediction is performed by recursive least square estimation after using Taylor series expansion to approximate nonlinear terms to polynomials. The proposed method is verified through experiments by using VICON Bonita motion capture system which can get three dimensional coordinates of projectile. The results indicate that proposed method is more accurate than linear Kalman filter method based on the equations of motion of projectile that does not consider air resistance.
This paper proposes a center of plantar foot pressure (CoP) trajectory estimation method based on Gaussian process regression, with the aim to show robust results regardless of the regions and numbers of FSRs of the insole sensor. This method can bring an interpolation between the measurement points inside the wearable insole sensor, and two experiments are conducted for performance evaluation. For this purpose, the input data used in the experiment are generated in three types (13 FSRs, 8 FSRs, 5 FSRs) according to the regions and numbers of FSRs. First, the estimation results of the CoP trajectory are compared using Gaussian process regression and weighted mean. As a result of each method, the estimation results of the two methods were similar in the case of 13 FSRs data. On the other hand, in the case of the 8 and 5 FSRs data, the weighted mean varies depending on the regions and numbers of FSRs, but the estimation results of Gaussian process regression showed similar results in spite of reducing the regions and numbers. Second, the estimation results of the CoP trajectory based on Gaussian process regression during several gait cycles are analyzed. In five gait cycles, the previous cycle and the current estimation results are compared, and it was confirmed that similar trajectories appeared in all. In this way, the method of estimating the CoP trajectory based on Gaussian process regression showed robust results, and stability was confirmed by yielding similar results in several gait cycles.
This paper is concerned with the application of the vision control scheme for robot's point placement task in discontinuous trajectory caused by obstacle. The proposed vision control scheme consists of four models, which are the robot's kinematic model, vision system model, 6-parameters estimation model, and robot's joint angles estimation model. For this study, the discontinuous trajectory by obstacle is divided into two obstacle regions. Each obstacle region consists of 3 cases, according to the variation of number of cameras that can not acquire the vision data. Then, the effects of number of cameras on the proposed robot's vision control scheme are investigated in each obstacle region. Finally, the practicality of the proposed robot's vision control scheme is demonstrated experimentally by performing the robot's point placement task in discontinuous trajectory by obstacle.
An accurate and robust estimation of center of rotation (CoR) using optical marker trajectory is crucial in human biomechanics. In this regard, the performances of the two prevailing least-squares methods, the Gamage and Lasenby (GL) method, and the Chang and Pollard (CP) method, are verified in this paper. While both methods are sphere-fitting approaches in closed form and require no tuning parameters, they have not been thoroughly verified by comparison of their estimation accuracies. Furthermore, while for both methods, results for stationary CoR locations are presented, cases for perturbed CoR locations have not been investigated for any of them. In this paper, the estimation performances of the GL method and CP method are investigated by varying the range of motion (RoM) and noise amount, for both stationary and perturbed CoR locations. The difference in the estimation performance according to the variation in the amount of noise and RoM was clearly shown for both methods. However, the CP method outperformed the GL method, as seen in results from both the simulated and the experimental data. Particularly, when the RoM is small, the GL method failed to estimate the appropriate CoR while the CP method reasonably maintained the accuracy. In addition, the CP method showed a considerably better predictability in CoR estimation for the perturbed CoR location data than the GL method. Accordingly, it may be concluded that the CP method is more suitable than the GL method for CoR estimation when RoM is limited and CoR location is perturbed.
In order for a vehicle to follow a predetermined trajectory accurately, its position must be estimated accurately and reliably. In this thesis, we propose trajectory tracking control methods for unmanned vehicle and a positioning system using ultrasonic wave. The positioning problem is an important part of control problem for unmanned navigation of a vehicle. Dead Reckoning is widely used for positioning of vehicle. However this method has problems because it accumulates estimation errors. We propose a new method to increase the accuracy of position estimation using the Ultrasonic Satellite System (USAT). It is shown that we will be able to estimate the position of vehicle precisely, in which errors are not accumulated. And proposed trajectory tracking control methods include both a new path planning method and a lateral control method for vehicle. The experimental results show that the proposed methods enables exact vehicle trajectory tracking even under various environmental factors.
In this study, a carrier smoothed global positioning system / dead reckoning (CSGPS/DR) integrated system for high-precision trajectory estimation for the purpose of vehicle navigation was proposed. Existing code-based GPS has a low position accuracy, and carrier-phase differential global positioning system (CPDGPS) has a long waiting time for high-precision positioning and has a problem of high cost due to the establishment of infrastructure. To resolve this, the continuity of a trajectory was guaranteed by integrating CSGPS and DR. The results of the experiment indicated that the trajectory precision of the code-based GPS showed an error performance of more than 30cm, while that of the CSGPS/DR integrated system showed an error performance of less than 10cm. Based on this, it was found that the trajectory precision of the proposed CSGPS/DR integrated system is superior to that of the code-based GPS.
