  • In this paper it is purpose that reduces joint torques and their rate of change through optimizing trajectory planning of biped walking machine. The motion of biped walking machine is divided into leg motion for walking and body motion for keeping balance. The leg motion is planned by three phases, that are deploy, swing, and place phases, in terms of the state of foot against floor. The distribution of time assigned to each phase is optimized and that causes leg joint torques and their rate of change to minimize. The body notion is produced by using optimal control theory which minimizes body joint torques and satisfies Z.M.P. constraints defined as region of each phase.

  • Dynamic Programming is regarded as a very powerful tool for solving nonlinear optimization problem subject to a number of constraints of state and control variables, but has definite disadvantages that it requires much more computing time and consumes much more memory spaces than other technigues. In order to eliminate the above-mentioned demerits, this paper suggests a news technique called Multiple Dynamic Programming. The underlying principles are based on the concept of multiple passes that, instead of forming fin lattices in time-state plane as adopted in the conventional Dynamic Programming, the Multiple Dynamic Programming constitutes, at the first pass, coarse lattices in the feasible domain of time-state plane and determines the optimal state trajectory by the usual method of Dynamic Programming, and at the second pass again constitutes finer lattices in the narrower domain surrounded by both the upperand lower edges next to the lattice edges through which the first pass optimal trajectory passes and determines the more accurate optimal trajectory of state, and then at the third pass repeats the same processes, and so on. The suggested technique insures remarkable curtailment in amounts of computer memory spaces and conputing time, and its applicability has been demonstrated by a case study on the hydro-thermal power coordination in Korean power system.

  • Robotized filament winding technology involves a robot that winds a roving impregnated by resin on a die along the directions of stresses to which the work-piece is submitted in applications. The robot moves a deposition head along a winding trajectory in order to deposit roving. The trajectory planning is a very critical aspect of robotized filament winding technology, since it is responsible for both the tension constancy and the winding time. The present work shows two original rules to plan the winding trajectory of structural parts, whose shape is obtained by sweeping a full section around a 3D curve that must be closed and not crossing in order to assure a continuous winding. The first rule plans the winding trajectory by approximating the part 3D shape with straight lines; it is called the discretized rule. The second rule defines the winding trajectory simply by offsetting a 3D curve that reproduces the part 3D shape, of a defined distance; it is called the offset rule. The two rules have been compared in terms of roving tension and winding time. The present work shows how the offset rule enables achievement of both the required aims: to manufacture parts of high structural performances by keeping the tension on the roving near to the nominal value and to markedly decrease the winding time. This is the first step towards the optimization of the robotized filament winding technology.

  • Unlike the vertical drilling in the directional drilling should be minimized torque and drag in the well trajectory that avoided problems such as drillstring transformation, casing wear and key-seating. These torque and drag magnitude is determined by variations such as the well trajectory geometry, drilling mud, drillstring type and kick-off point. Therefore, it is essential to consider these variations for designing directional well trajectory. In this study, it was selected well trajectory by the most common build-hold type well and calculated torque and drag on each section by Analytical friction model. Analysis indicates that torque and drag could be minimized by using high lubricity drilling mud, kick-off point appropriate according to the well geometry and possible minimize dogleg severity. The results of this study is useful to minimize torque and drag from directional well trajectory design.

  • The problem of finding an allowable object trajectory for a cooperating two-robot system is investigated. The method proposed in this paper is based on reformulating the problem as a nonlinear optimization problem with equality constants in terms of the joint variables. The optimization problem is then solved numerically on a computer. The solution automatically gives the corresponding joint variable trajectories as well, thus eliminating the need for solving the inverse kinematic problem. The method has been succesfully applied to an experimental system.

  • This paper present experimental results on temperature trajectory tracking. The benefits of precalculated feedforward input together with PID feedback control are demonstrated by experimental results. To find the feedforward input, the plant (autoregresiive) model is first identified and convex optimization procedure is applied. PID controller is then implemented based on Ziegler-Nickels tuning rule to reduce effects of disturbances and modeling errors. Experimental results show an improvement in slope tracking performance over the fully PID controller.

  • There have been many studies regarding development of autonomous excavation system which is helpful in construction sites where repetitive jobs are necessary. Unfortunately, bucket trajectory planning was excluded from the previous studies. Since, the best use of excavator is to dig efficiently; purpose of this research was set to determine an optimized bucket trajectory in order to get best digging performance. Among infinite ways of digging any given path, criterion for either optimal or efficient bucket moves is required to be established. One method is to adopt work know-how from experienced excavator operator; However the work pattern varies from every worker to worker and it is hard to be analyzed. Thus, other than the work pattern taken from experienced operator, we developed an efficiency model to solve this problem. This paper presents a method to derive a bucket trajectory from optimization theory with empirical CLUB soil model. Path is greatly influenced by physical constraints such as geometry, excavator dimension and excavator workspace. By minimizing a energy function under these constraints, an optimal bucket trajectory could be obtained.

  • Transplanting accuracy of a rice transplanter mainly depends on the trajectory of the hoe for picking, conveying and transplanting of seedlings as well as the return motion. The trajectory can be decided and prescribed to be suitable in treating seedlings fur a prevailing soil condition. For the purpose of the transplanting accuracy, the design of a transplanting mechanism would be carried out using a planetary-gear-train system instead of the four bar linkage system. In this study, a design method of transplanting mechanism is theoretically proposed by synthesizing a noncircular planetary-gear-train system fur the tool (hoe) to trace a prescribed trajectory. The method utilizes an optimization approach to decide the lengths of an arm and a tool, the inverse kinematics to figure out the configuration angles of the two links, the roll contact condition in transmitting motion between the gears, and a linearization approach to obtain the shapes of the gears. Based on the proposed method, the shapes of the gears and the lengths of the tools of the planetary-gear-train system are determined fur three prescribed trajectories. A kinematical simulation with a commercialized package program is also carried out to confirm that the gear-train system synthesized with the proposed method is able to trace the prescribed trajectory.
