  • PTSD 환자들에서 성별에 따른 증상의 차이를 보기 위한 본 다기관 연구에서, 여성은 남성에 비해 재경험, 회피 항목에서 높은 빈도와 심각도를 보였다. 즉 과도한 기억과 각성, 만성적인 회피로 이어지는 PTSD 발생 과정에서 남, 녀간 차이가 있을 수 있다는 것을 시사하며, 앞으로 이를 확인하기 위한 연구가 더욱 필요할 것이다.

Work and Travel Experiences of Filipino Tourism Students in Selected Universities

  • A cultural exchange program widens the horizons of students. It gives them the opportunity to associate with other societies and learn their cultures at the same time. This program also serves as a training ground where students enhance their skills, acquire learnings, and gain experiences that will help them in their future careers and make them more competitive than others. Hence, the objective of this study is to come up with an output from a set of guidelines established and gathered from the different "work and travel" experiences of the participants. This study adopted the phenomenological and was conducted in places that are relatively quiet for recording, and suitable and convenient for both the researchers and participants. The researchers gathered data through in-depth interviews of samples gathered through snowball sampling. Cellphones were used to record interviews. At the end of the thematic analysis of information, the researchers came up with three major categories which included: (1) 'having the opportunity to know the industry well and improve one's capability', 'undergoing different cultural exchange experiences for better development', and 'being able to practice intercultural immersion'. Some of the researchers' recommendations would be to institute a feedback mechanism such as personal interviews, monitoring visits, etc. and use the output, a set of guidelines, that would help the future 'work and travel' participants to prepare and anticipate the program they would undergo.

Change in Adiponectin and Oxidative Stress after Modifiable Lifestyle Interventions in Breast Cancer Cases

  • Background: Breast cancer is one of the most frequent diseases in women today. Little information exists on modifiable lifestyle factors including effects of ginger supplements (as an anti-oxidant and anti-inflammatory herbal) and water-based exercise on biomarkers related to oxidative stress such as malondialdehyde (MDA), nitric oxide (NO) and glutathione peroxidase (GPx) and adiponectin in obese women with breast cancer. The aim of this study was to determine the single and concomitant effect of 6-wks water-based exercise and oral ginger supplement on the aforesaid markers in obese women with breast cancer. Materials and Methods: Forty women diagnosed with breast cancer ($48{\pm}5.4$ years, $76{\pm}9$ kg, fat mass $41.8{\pm}4%$), volunteered to participate in the study. Subjects were randomly assigned into four groups; placebo, water-based exercise, ginger supplement and water-based exercise+ginger supplement groups. Subjects in the ginger supplement group and the water-based exercise+ginger supplement group orally received 4 capsules (each capsule contained 750 mg), 7 days a week for 6 weeks. The water-based exercise program featured progressive increase in intensity and time, ranging from 50% to 75% of heart rate reserve, in a pool with 15 meters width, 4 times a week for 6 weeks. Fasting blood samples were collected at pre-test and post-test time points. Results: The ginger supplementation and or the water-base exercise resulted in an increase of adiponectin, NO and GPx and reduction MDA, as compared to pre-test values. However, the combined intervention (water-base exercise and ginger supplement) group showed significantly a far better effect on the biomarkers related to oxidative stress and adiponectin levels, as compared to the waterbase exercise or ginger supplement alone groups and the age-matched placebo group. Conclusions: Our results revealed that water-base exercise is a non-drug therapeutic strategy to reduce systemic stress in obese women suffering from breast cancer. Further, ginger supplementation alone or in combination with training, also play an important role in the pathogenesis of oxidative stress in obese women diagnosed with breast cancer.

Neuroprotective Effects of Quetiapine on Neuronal Apoptosis Following Experimental Transient Focal Cerebral Ischemia in Rats

  • Objective : This study was undertaken in the belief that the atypical antipsychotic drug quetiapine could prevent apoptosis in the penumbra region following ischemia, taking into account findings that show 5-hydroxytryptamine-2 receptor blockers can prevent apoptosis. Methods : We created 5 groups, each containing 6 animals. Nothing was done on the K-I group used for comparisons with the other groups to make sure adequate ischemia had been achieved. The K-II group was sacrificed on the 1st day after transient focal cerebral ischemia and the K-III group on the 3rd day. The D-I group was administered quetiapine following ischemia and sacrificed on the 1st day while the D-II group was administered quetiapine every day following the ischemia and sacrificed on the 3rd day. The samples were stained with the immunochemical TUNEL method and the number of apoptotic cells were counted. Results : There was a significant difference between the first and third day control groups (K-II/K-III : p=0.004) and this indicates that apoptotic cell death increases with time. This increase was not encountered in the drug groups (D-I/D-II : p=1.00). Statistical analysis of immunohistochemical data revealed that quetiapine decreased the apoptotic cell death that normally increased with time. Conclusion : Quetiapine is already in clinical use and is a safe drug, in contrast to many substances that are used to prevent ischemia and are not normally used clinically. Our results and the literature data indicate that quetiapine could help both as a neuronal protector and to resolve neuropsychiatric problems caused by the ischemia in cerebral ischemia cases.

Therapeutic Potential of an Anti-diabetic Drug, Metformin: Alteration of miRNA expression in Prostate Cancer Cells

  • Background and Aims: Prostate cancer is the most commonly diagnosed cancer in males in many populations. Metformin is the most widely used anti-diabetic drug in the world, and there is increasing evidence of a potential efficacy of this agent as an anti-cancer drug. Metformin inhibits the proliferation of a range of cancer cells including prostate, colon, breast, ovarian, and glioma lines. MicroRNAs (miRNAs) are a class of small, non-coding, single-stranded RNAs that downregulate gene expression. We aimed to evaluate the effects of metformin treatment on changes in miRNA expression in PC-3 cells, and possible associations with biological behaviour. Materials and Methods: Average cell viability and cytotoxic effects of metformin were investigated at 24 hour intervals for three days using the xCELLigence system. The $IC_{50}$ dose of metformin in the PC-3 cells was found to be 5 mM. RNA samples were used for analysis using custom multi-species microarrays containing 1209 probes covering 1221 human mature microRNAs present in miRBase 16.0 database. Results: Among the human miRNAs investigated by the arrays, 10 miRNAs were up-regulated and 12 miRNAs were down-regulated in the metformin-treated group as compared to the control group. In conclusion, expression changes in miRNAs of miR-146a, miR-100, miR-425, miR-193a-3p and, miR-106b in metformin-treated cells may be important. This study may emphasize a new role of metformin on the regulation of miRNAs in prostate cancer.

Tight sportswear and physiological function - Effect on muscle strength and EMG activity -

  • It has been reported that tight sportswear could have complicated influence on physiological function of human body. The purpose of this present study was to investigate the effect of wearing gradient compression tights (GCT) on muscle strength and EMG activity during repeated isokinetic muscle contractions. Four healthy male undergraduate students performed maximal voluntary isokinetic concentric muscle contractions on biomechanical test and training systems with GCT and loose pants as control (Cont) respectively. During each test, the peak torque of extensor and flexor contractions and the surface electromyography (sEMG) of the rectus femoris and medial gastrocnemius was recorded simultaneously, the peak torque was recorded as an indicator of muscle strength, and the average amplitude and mean power frequency of sEMG were calculated as indicators of EMG activity. The results showed that: the peak torque decreased gradually during continuous muscle contractions both when the Cont and GCT were worn, average sEMG and mean power frequency declined along with the repetitions of muscle contractions for both wearing conditions, and the change tendency was consistence with that of peak torque. There was no obvious difference between the peak torque recorded wearing the Cont or wearing GCT, but when GCT were worn, average sEMG was lower and mean power frequency was higher than the Cont condition. In 24 samples obtained from four subjects, 80% of results showed the same trend. So we could make a conclusion that wearing GCT had no obvious effect on the improvement of muscle strength, but it would affect the EMG activity positivly.

눈 검출에서의 픽셀 선택을 이용한 신뢰 척도 (A New Confidence Measure for Eye Detection Using Pixel Selection)

  • 본 논문에서는, 눈 검출에서의 픽셀 선택 방법을 이용한 편향 판별 분석(BDA) 기반의 신뢰 척도를 제안하고 이를 이용하여 hybrid 눈 검출기를 설계한다. 이를 위해 눈 조각 영상에서 먼저 판별 분석에 유용한 픽셀들을 선택하여 부분 영상을 만들고, 부분 영상에 BDA를 적용하여 신뢰 척도를 위한 특징 공간을 구성한다. Hybrid 눈 검출기를 구성하는 기본 검출기로는 상호 보완적인 특성을 가진 HFED와 MFED를 사용하였다. 주어진 영상에 대해, 기본 검출기들에 의해 생성된 눈 좌표를 가지고 생성한 눈 조각 영상의 부분 영상들을 BDA 특징공간에 투영하여 positive 샘플의 평균과의 거리를 측정함으로써 그 정확성을 측정하고, 기본 검출기의 결과들 중에서 신뢰도가 높은 결과를 최종 눈 검출 결과로 사용한다. 다양한 얼굴 데이터베이스들에 대한 실험 결과에서, 제안한 방법은 검출된 눈 좌표의 정확도 측면에서 뿐만 아니라 검출된 눈 좌표를 이용한 얼굴 인식 성능에서도 다른 방법들보다 우수한 결과를 나타내었다.

k-최근접 템플릿기반 다중 분류기 결합방법 (Multiple Classifier Fusion Method based on k-Nearest Templates)

  • 본 논문에서는 다중 분류기를 효과적으로 결합하기 위하여 k-최근접 템플릿방법을 제안한다. 이는 하나의 클래스를 여러개의 템플릿으로 모델링하기 위하여 분류기의 출력값을 기반으로 각 클래별 학습 샘플들을 여러개의 하위클래스로 분해하고, 각 하위클래스별 분류기 출력값의 평균을 계산하여 지역화된 템플릿을 생성한다. 그 뒤 평가샘플과 각 템플릿간의 거리를 계산하고, k개의 최근접 템플릿들 중 가장 많은 비율을 차지하는 클래스로 평가샘플을 분류한다. 본 논문에서는 클래스 분해를 위해 C-means 클러스터링 알고리즘을 이용하였으며, k값은 주어진 데이타 셋의 클래스 내 밀집도와 클래스 간 분리도에 따라 자동으로 결정하였다. 제안하는 방법은 각 클래스별로 여러 개의 모델을 사용하며, 이들 중 가장 유사한 하나의 모델과 매칭하는 대신 k개의 모델을 참조하기 때문에 안정적이고 높은 분류성능을 획득할 수 있다. 본 논문에서는 UCI와 ELENA데이타베이스를 이용한 실험을 통해 제안하는 방법이 기존의 결합 방법들에 비해 우수한 분류성능을 보임을 확인하였다.

한글 저자명 중의성 해소를 위한 기계학습기법의 적용 (Application of Machine Learning Techniques for Resolving Korean Author Names)

  • 동일한 인명을 갖는 서로 다른 실세계 사람들이 존재하는 현실은 인터넷 세계에서 인명으로 표현된 개체의 신원을 식별해야 하는 문제를 발생시킨다. 상기의 문제가 학술정보 내의 저자명 개체로 제한된 경우를 저자식별이라 부른다. 저자식별은 식별 대상이 되는 저자명 개체 사이의 유사도 즉 저자유사도를 계산하는 단계와 이후 저자명 개체들을 군집화하는 단계로 이루어진다. 저자유사도는 공저자, 논문제목, 게재지정보 등의 저자식별자질들의 자질유사도로부터 계산되는데, 이를 위해 기존에 교사방법과 비교사방법들이 사용되었다. 저자식별된 학습샘플을 사용하는 교사방법은 비교사방법에 비해 다양한 저자식별자진들을 결합하는 최저의 저자유사도함수를 자동학습할 수 있다는 장점이 있다. 그러나, 기존교사방법 연구에서는 SVM, MEM 등의 일부 기계학습기법만이 시도되었다. 이 논문은 다양한 기계학습기법들이 저자식별에 미치는 성능, 오류, 효율성을 비교하고, 공저자와 논문제목 자질에 대해 자질값 추출 및 자질 유사도 계산을 위한 여러 기법들의 비교분석을 제공한다.

하이브리드 드롭아웃 (Hybrid dropout)

  • 수 많은 모수들을 가지고 있는 방대한 심층신경망은 매우 강력한 기계학습 방법이지만 모형의 과도한 융통성으로 인하여 과적합문제를 내포하고 있다. 드롭아웃 방법은 크기가 큰 신경망의 과적합 문제를 해결하는 다양한 방법들 중 하나이며 매우 효과적인 방법으로 알려져 있다. 드롭아웃 방법은 훈련과정에서 각각의 표본에 다른 모형을 적용하는데 이들 모형은 입력과 은닉층의 노드들을 무작위로 제거한 모형들 중에 임의로 선택된다. 본 연구에서는 임의로 선택된 모형에 둘 이상의 표본을 적용하여 모형의 가중치들에 대한 추정치의 안정성을 높이는 하이브리드 드롭아웃 방법을 제시하였다. 실제 자료를 이용한 시뮬레이션 결과 노드의 선택확률과 모형의 적합에 사용되는 표본의 수를 적절하게 선택하여 기존의 방법에 비하여 추정치의 변동성이 감소시킬 수 있었으며 동시에 검증자료에 대한 최저오차도 줄일 수 있음을 보였다.
