  • A tube hydroformability testing system was designed and manufactured to observe the forming steps and to provide arbitrary combination of internal pressure and axial feed. The forming limit diagram of an aluminum tube was obtained from the free bulge test and the T-shape forming test using this system, giving the criteria for predicting failure in the hydroforming process. The hydroformability of aluminum tube according to different conditions of a prebending process was discussed, based on the finite element analysis and the forming limit test. The effects of 2D and 3D prebending on the tube hydroforming process of an automotive failing arm were evaluated and compared with each other.

  • Low frequency interior noise in cars is mainly due to structure-borne excitations which are related with road excitation and component vibrations such as suspension and engine mounts. In order to analyze the annoying interior noise. a technique (Transfer Path Analysis) is introduced to find a noise source and the path of that noise. In this study, TPA is reviewed theoretically and applied to investigate the case when the low frequency interior noise at front seat due to road excitations needs to be optimized. The subjective and objective appraisal was performed under the conditions that a testing vehicle traveled on asphalt at 30 km/h. so that the low frequency to be eliminated was detected. The related vibration and noise data for TPA were measured on running and static vehicle. The results reveal that the noise contribution along the z-direction of trailing arm is prominent to low frequency interior noise.

  • In this study, the leveling control system for a tractor has been developed. The experimental model showed that the implementation of the proposed hydraulic control system fur the prototype design of a slope land tractor was feasible. The front axle was designed as a center pin type and the rear axle was designed as a trailing arm type. The leveling control of the body on the slope land was accomplished by controlling the height of the right and left trailing arms using the electronic controlled hydraulic cylinder. The maximum leveling control angles were ${\pm}$15$^{\circ}$ for roll angle and 7$^{\circ}$far pitch angle. The front and rear wheel drives were transmitted by gears from the main shaft to the final drive. The adaptability of the hydraulic control system was tested and investigated by analyzing the system response in time and frequency domain. The hydraulic control system on a step input showed a linearly increasing trend without any overshoot state. The hydraulic control system on a frequency input showed a little phase differences and gain drops within the range of 0.3Hz.

  • This study presents full vehicle dynamics model for the dynamic characteristic analysis of chassis parts which are suspension and brake system. This vehicle dynamics model is appled to kinematics and quasi-static analysis for each chassis part. In order to develop the vehicle dynamics model, the parameters of each chassis element part which are bush, spring and damper are measured by experiment. Also the wheel forces and moments of 6 DOF are measured at each wheel center. These data are applied to input parameter for vehicle dynamics model. And the verification of the developed model is achieved to comparison with the experimental force data of spring, trailing arm and assist arm by using the load response by strain gauge. These experimental force data are acquired by road test at event surfaces of P/G which are belgian and chuck holes roads.

  • Recently social demands of fuel economy and environmental regulations require the development of lightweight components and new manufacturing technologies. The aluminum tube hydroforming is a manufacturing process which can provide lightweight components as automotive parts. In this paper, the hydroformability of aluminium tube in different condition of bending process is presented. An investigation has been conducted on how to control the deformed shape and its effect on thinning distribution after hydroforming by using finite element simulation. Finite element simulation of tube hydroforming for automotive trailing arm is carried out to explore the effect of 2-dimensional and 3-dimensional bending.

  • This study is about an optimum design to improve the kinematic and compliance characteristics of a torsion-beam suspension system. The kinematic and compliance characteristics of an initial design of the suspension was obtained through a roll-mode analysis. The objective function was set to minimize within design constraints. The coordinates of the connecting point between the torsion-beam and the trailing arm were treated as design parameters. Since the torsion-beam suspension has large nonlinear effects due to kinematic and elastic motion, Genetic Algorithms were employed for the optimal design. The optimized results were verified through a double-lane change simulation using the full vehicle model.

  • In this study, we perform the optimization of trailing arm bush in a vehicle rear suspension to improve the ride and handling performance. A design problem was formulated considering 2 objective functions and 7 constraints related to vehicle ride and handling performance. PIAnO, one of the PIDO (Process Integration and Design Optimization) tool, was used to automate analysis procedures and perform a design optimization. In order to assess relation between performances and design variables, we perform the DOE (Design of Experiments). To find the optimal solution, we used Progressive quadratic response surface method (PQRSM), one of the design optimization techniques equipped in PIAnO. As an optimization result, we got an optimal solution and could improve lateral force steer off-center by 43.0% while decreasing brake compliance at wheel center by 8.1%.
