  • This paper proposes a novel 16/10 segmented rotor switched reluctance motor (SSRM) for belt-driven starter generators (BSGs). Different from conventional SRMs, the stator of the proposed SSRM consists of two types of stator poles, i.e., exciting and auxiliary poles, and the rotor is constructed from a series of discrete segments. The topology and operation principle of this proposed SSRM are illustrated firstly, and then the design rules are listed. In addition, the finite element method (FEM) is employed to get the static and dynamic characteristics of the proposed SSRM. Finally, the simulation results are presented to show the validity of the proposed SSRM for BSGs.

  • In this paper, we are dealing with the problems of performance evaluation of Differentiated Services(DiffServ) networks. For successful performance evaluation, the ability to accurately represent "real" traffic on the network by suitable traffic models is an essential ingredient. Many research results on the nature of real traffic measurements demonstrated LRD(long-range dependence) property for the Internet traffic including Web, TELNET, and P2P traffic. The LRD can be effectively represented by self-similarity. In this paper, we design and implement self-similar traffic generator using the aggregated On/Off source model, based on the analysis of the On-Off source model, FFT-FGN(Fast Fourier Transform-Fractional Gaussian Noise) model, and RMD(Random Midpoint Displacement) model. We confirmed the self-similarity of our generated traffic by checking the packet inter-arrival time of TCPdump data. Further we applied the implemented traffic generator to the performance evaluation of DiffServ networks and observed the effect of performance to the a value of the On/Off model, and performance of EF/BE class traffic by CBQ.

  • Packet switching is an important aspect of ISDN. In the TDX-10 switching system, which is being developed as an ISDN exchange in Korea, the packet switching function is implemented on the basis of Case B scenario of X.31. After implementing the packet switching function the performance test must be executed to check whether the design objectives of performance are satisfied or not. However, it is not easy to set up test environment for performance measurement under full load conditions. This paper presents the design of the traffic generator which enables us to do performance test of the TDX-10 packet handler under full load conditions. To generate packet traffic we change only software programs without any change of the hardware system of the packet handler.

  • The CCITT recommendation X.3, X.20, X.29 and X.25 protocols have been efficiently used in subscriber site for the purpose of using existing C DTE In the ISDN. The Packet Assem-bly /Disasembly (PAD) which covers these protocols can connect C_DTE to the PSDN. The number of C DTE connected to the PAI) Is dependent on the PAD performance. The design of the Traffic Generator (TG) S/W which can measure the PAD performance Is Introduced In this paper.

  • This paper proposes architecture of Linux-based Network Traffic Control Test-bed (NTCT) that easily implements reconfigurable network environment. The proposed NTCT consists of traffic generator that uses the simulation results of NS2 simulator, traffic controller using Linux kernel, and traffic monitor. This paper also includes the analysis example using the proposed NTCT.

  • The purpose of this paper is to identify the CPU temperatures on traffic processing between two servers system. To test this model, this research applies multi-generator and resource reservation protocol that produce various types of traffics. The empirical results indicate that $56^{\circ}C\mp9^{\circ}C$ of CPU temperature is suitable when 250-300 traffics with 10-15kb per a packet are supplied. And also, no jitter delay time is showed in these cases.

  • As many researchers have been interested in Green IT, Energy Efficient Ethernet(EEE) with rate adaptation has recently begun to receive many attention. However, the rate adaptation scheme can have different energy efficiency and delay according to the characteristics of various traffic patterns. Therefore, in this paper, we analyze the impact of different traffic patterns on the energy efficiency and delay in Ethernet with rate adaptation. To do this, firstly we design a rate adaptation simulator which consists of Poisson based traffic generator, Pareto distribution based ON-OFF generator and Ethernet node with rate adaptation by using OPNET Modeler. Using this simulator, we perform the simulation in view of the total number of switching, transmission rate reduction, energy saving ratio and average queueing delay. Simulation results show that IP traffic patterns with high self-similarity affect the number of switching, rate reduction and energy saving ratio. Additionally, the transition overhead is caused due to the high self-similar traffic.

  • Integrating massive components and low-power policies have been actively investigated for system-on-chip designs. But in recent years, finding the optimal interconnection structure among heterogeneous components has emerged as a critical system design issue. Therefore, various simulation tools to model interconnection designs are being developed and performance evaluation of simulation is reflected in the real design. But most of the simulation environments employ traffic generation based on the mathematical probability functions, and such traffic generation cannot fully cover for various situations that may be occurred in the real system. Therefore, the demand for traffic pattern generation based on real applications is increasing. However, there have been few simulators that adopt application-specific traffic generators. This paper proposes a novel traffic generation method in simulating various interconnection structures for multi-processor system-on-chip design. The proposed traffic generation method can generate traffic patterns that can reflect the actual characteristics of the application and evaluate the performance of an interconnection structure under more realistic circumstance than traffic patterns using mathematical probability functions. By comparing the differences between the proposed method and the one based on mathematical probability functions, this paper shows advantages of the proposed traffic generation method.
