Estimation of Marine Traffic Volume Considering Ship Speed (선박의 속력을 고려한 해상교통량 평가에 관한 연구)

  • This study proposes marine traffic volume estimation method considering ship speed, a factor excluded from the existing method. Ten days of GICOMS marine traffic data from Pyeongtaek and Dangjin ports was applied to this study. As a result, converted traffic volume with the proposed estimation method showed an increase of 4.41 (${\pm}0.99$) times or decrease of 0.59 (${\pm}0.04$) at most, compared with the existing estimation method. Average marine traffic congestion for each time applying the proposed estimation method showed an increase of 1.43 (${\pm}0.10$) compared with the existing estimation method. The maximum marine traffic congestion for each time was 1.62 (${\pm}0.34$) times higher compared with the existing estimation method. Marine traffic peak time, defined as the highest point of marine traffic congestion, was evaluated to be different from that of the existing method because of distribution of vessel speed. In conclusion, considering ship speed is necessary when estimating marine traffic volume to produce a practical estimate of marine traffic capacity.

The Effects of Urban Forest on Summer Air Temperature in Seoul, Korea (도시림의 여름 대기온도 저감효과 - 서울시를 대상으로 -)

  • The main purpose of this study was to estimate a new regression model to explain the relationship between urban forest and air temperature in summer, 2001. This study consists of two parts: correlation coefficient analysis and regression analysis. According to correlation coefficient analysis, thermal infra-red radiations of the major land use categories found significant difference in each category. However there were no significant relationship between the data (thermal infra-red radiation and NDVI) derived from Landsat-7 ETM+ image and air temperature at Automatic Weather Stations(AWSs). After estimating various regression models for summer air temperature, the final models were chosen. The final regression models consisted of two variables such as forest m and traffic facilities area. The regression models explained over 78% of the variability in air temperatures. The regression models with variables of forest area and traffic facilities area showed that the coefficient of the first variable was even more significant than the second one. However, the negative impact of the traffic facilities area was slightly greater than the positive impact of the forest area. Consequently, the effects of forest area and traffic facilities area were apparent to explain summer air temperature in Seoul. Therefore two policies have the most important implications to mitigate the summer air temperature in Seoul: to expand and to conserve the urban forest; and to change the Oafnc facilities'characteristics. The results from this study are expected to be useful not merely in informing the public that urban forest mitigates summer air temperahne, but in urging the necessity of budgets for trees and managing urban forests. Artificial Traffic Signal Light using Fuzzy Rules

  • The conventional traffic light loses the function of optimal traffic signal cycle. And so, 30-45% of conventional traffic signal cycle is not matched to the present traffic signal cycle. In this paper proposes electro sensitive traffic light using fuzzy rules which will reduce the average vehicle waiting time and improve average vehicle speed. This paper is researching the storing method of 40 different kinds of sensor input conditions. Such as, car speed, delay· in starting time and the volume of cars in the real traffic situation. It will estimate the optimal green time in the 10 different intersections using Intelligent fuzzy method. Computer simulation results prove that reducing the average vehicle waiting time and offset better than fixed signal method which doesn't consider vehicle length.

Scen based MPEG video traffic modeling considering the correlations between frames (프레임간 상관관계를 고려한 장면기반 MPEG 비디오 트래픽 모델링)

  • For the performance analysis and traffic control of ATM networks carrying video sequences, need an appropriate video traffic model. In this paper, we propose a new traffic model for MPEG compressed videos which are widely used for any type of video applications at th emoment. The proposed modeling scheme uses scene-based traffic characteristics and considers the correlation between frames of consecutiv GOPs. Using a simple scene detection algorithm, scene changes are modeled by state transitions and the number of GOPs of a scene state is modeled by a geometric distirbution. Frames of a scene stte are modeled by mean I, P, and B frame size. For more accurate traffic modeling, quantization errors (residual bits) that the state transition model using mean values has are compensated by autoregressive processes. We show that our model very well captures the traffic chracteristics of the original videos by performance analysis in terms of autocorrelation, histogram of frame bits genrated by the model, and cell loss rate in the ATM multiplexer with limited buffers. Our model is able to perrorm translations between levels (i.e., GOP, frame, and cell levels) and to estimate very accurately the stochastic characteristics of the original videos by each level.

Link Dimensioning for Multiplexed M2M Traffic

  • This work proposes an analytic framework to estimate the capacity of the link in an M2M gateway that multiplexes a massive number of machine type communication devices. First, we specify the network architecture for M2M communications. Next, we summarize the characteristics of M2M traffic, from which we extract an area about the problem that has to be resolved in the dimensioning of the link capacity. After that we propose a new method to determine the capacity of the link in an M2M gateway. Via numerical experiment reflecting the realistic environment of M2M traffic, we illustrate the validity of the proposed model.

Delay Performance of Multi-Service Network with Strict Priority Scheduling Scheme

  • Strict priority scheduling scheme is a good candidate for the implementation of service differentiation in an Internet because of simplicity in implementation and the capability to guarantee the delay requirement of the highest class of traffic. However, it is also blown that strict priority starves the lower-class traffic at the cost of prioritizing the higher-class traffic. The purpose of this work is to propose an analytic method which can estimate the average delay performance of Diffserv service architecture and shows that strict priority scheme does not sacrifice the lower class traffic over a diverse condition of the load. From the numerical experiments for three-class Diffserv network we validate our argument that strict priority scheme may be applied to a service differentiation scheme for the future Internet.

  • In this study, we estimate the vehicle speed by analyzing the acoustic data recorded in a single microphone of a surveillance camera. The frequency analysis of the acoustic data corrects the Doppler effect, which is a characteristic of the moving sound source, and reflects the geometric relationship according to the location of the sound source and the microphone on the two-dimensional plane. The acoustic data is selected from the horn sound that is mainly observed in an urgent situation among various sound sources that may occur in a traffic accident, and the characteristics of the monotone source are considered. We verified the reliability of the proposed method by time domain acoustic analysis and actual vehicle evaluation. This method is effective and can be used for traffic accident analysis in the blind spot of the camera using a single microphone built into the existing surveillance camera.

  • The real time monitoring of the power systems covering wide area are essential for the stable operation and control of the power system. Synchronized phasor measurement is a key for the precise monitoring and control of the power systems. In this paper, to suggest an appropriate network topology of Power Infrastructure Defense System(PIDS) and to estimate the maximum network bandwidth with using the network analyzer, we simulate a PIDS and analyze the network traffic.

  • For a realistic and reasonable determination of condition and status, assessment system should include load modeling for the loads acting on slab bridges due to traffic loads, evaluation system for fatigue, and determination of remaining service life. The purpose of the present study is to develop a realistic expert system which can estimate reasonably the fatigue and service life of slab bridges, based on the load models that are derived from the traffic loads.
