Korean traditional music has been a process art which has been changed and re-created by musicians to mirror the musical aesthetics of contemporary people. Form court music, which has tried to keep the "authentic" form as much as possible, to folk music, which is closely associated to the people's life style, traditional music has expressed the life of the Korean people. From the early 20th century, traditional music faced a totally new music culture due to the Japanese annexation and rapid westernization. A new music network was established by modern theater and broadcast system. Many gayageum (12-stringed zither) masters were able to develop their own music in this new music culture. Female musicians came to exist because of a new music education system, called gwonbeon (school for female entertainers). Due to the rapid westernization, traditional music was becoming 'extinct'. The government's new system of Intangible Cultural Heritage tried to preserve traditional culture. Traditional music came to revive but became fossilized in order to preserve the 'archetype'. The so-called Living Human Treasures took power and became a social problem. The modern school education system was one of major factors for promotion of traditional music. However, it became one of main reasons for musicians to lose their musical creativity. Today, many performers and composers try to make a new composition and renovated musical instruments to suit the contemporary musical aesthetics.

This study is to present a draft for the formulation of uniform title for sound recordings of the Korean traditional music. The draft as the results of this study is summarized as follows: In a musical work of a type of non-composition, the popular name is put into square brackets as a uniform title of court music and folk music in the old Korean traditional music, and the composer's original title is put into square brackets as a uniform title of the new Korean traditional music, but the medium of performance and others are omitted except an identifying element. However, for the formulation of uniform title of a type of composition in an instrumental music, the descriptive form consisted of the order of 'name of one type of composition, medium of performance, serial number, opus number, key, and a descriptive word or phrase' is put into square brackets as a uniform title and the identifying elements. And in the vocal music of the old Korean traditional music, the following medium of performance is used: in vocal choruses, a type of voices; in solo voices, a type of solo voice by sex, but one of the new Korean traditional music follows the descriptive form of the western classical music.

In the field of music, various AI composition methods using machine learning have recently been attempted. However, most of this research has been centered on Western music, and little research has been done on Korean traditional music. Therefore, in this paper, we will create a data set of Korean traditional music, create a melody using three algorithms based on the data set, and compare the results. Three models were selected based on the similarity between language and music, LSTM, Music Transformer and Self Attention. Using each of the three models, a melody generator was modeled and trained to generate melodies. As a result of user evaluation, the Self Attention method showed higher preference than the other methods. Data set is very important in AI composition. For this, a Korean traditional music data set was created, and AI composition was attempted with various algorithms, and this is expected to be helpful in future research on AI composition for Korean traditional music.

This study analyzed aspects of multiple intelligences related to rhythm, melody, understanding and representation of traditional Korean music. Subjects were 60 4-to 6-years-old children. Instruments were the Children's Korean Traditional Music (KTM) Ability Test (Park 2006)and Korean Multiple Intelligence Development Assessment Scale-My Young Child (MIDAS-MYC, Shearer, 1996). Data were analyzed by correlations and t-test. Findings were that (1) average scores on KTM rhythm and understandings were higher than melody and representation. (2) Traditional rhythm ability correlated most with linguistic intelligence. (3) Multiple intelligences by representation ability for KTM differed significantly in Linguistic intelligence and relationships to Naturalist, Musical, Logical-mathematical, Interpersonal, and Bodily-Kinesthetic intelligences.

The quality of gifted education depends on the quality of teachers in the field. Teachers in music (Korean traditional music) gifted education are significant variable in identifying students' giftedness and successful instruction. The purpose of this study was to explore the desirable components of teachers in music (Korean traditional music) gifted education and develop the evaluation criteria based on the desirable components. Previous research on the components of good teachers, teachers in gifted education and teachers in music (Korean traditional music) gifted education were reviewed. Based on literature review, the evaluation criteria of teachers in music (Korean traditional music) gifted education was developed. To collect opinions and derive consensus of the evaluation criteria, this research used Delphi method with a panels of 25 experts. The evaluation criteria classified with 3 dimensions, 8 categories, and 18 variables as the result.

Traditional music not only reveals Korean culture to foreigners but also it enhances the pride of national identity for Koreans themselves. Objectives of this study are how can we encourage and appreciate traditional music to ordinary visitors (non-musicians). Music festivals could be a means to educate and captivate them towards the appreciation of Korean traditional music. For this purpose, this study checked the satisfaction level between local residents and domestic visitors(including foreigners) concerning music festival programs, and also proposed a practical implications to traditional music organizers. According to the result, local visitors' satisfaction level were higher than other domestic visitors. Visitors showed higher interest in the music instruments like a 'Gayageum' they are able to relate to, rather than with other traditional unfamiliar musical instruments. It is thus crucial to encourage students and ordinary citizens to interact with traditional music instruments so as to enhance the satisfaction levels of domestic visitors. Some practical implications for traditional music organizers are that it is recommendable to have more guides who have thorough knowledge of traditional Korean music and who is able to interpret festival programs in foreign languages for foreign visitors.

This study was conducted to investigate the effect of group music therapy using the traditional drum on the; social adjustment, self-image, and emotional adjustment, of children with hearing impairment. I participated in this group music therapy using the traditional drum with 7 children with hearing impairment for 3 days a week for 6 weeks(including holidays), and each session was 50 minutes long. The evaluation form of this study is a social-emotional development measurement sheet of Meadow-Kendall, which the children's teacher distributed to the children both pre- and post-examination. With these results, the researcher carried out Window SPSS 19 Version and searched for the experiment's effect of measurement cause (I am not sure what this means.) through paired t-test to identify the experiment's effects (social adjustment, self-image, emotional adjustment) as a result of group music therapy using the traditional drum for children with hearing impairment. This study arrived at the following conclusions. First, after I participated in the group music therapy using the traditional drum, the result of the comparisons of the pre-to-post average for social adjustment showed the statistical significance level of the 0.01 standard. Therefore, it was found that the group music therapy using the traditional drum had a positive effect on the social adjustment of children with hearing Impairment. Second, after I participated in the group music therapy using the traditional drum, the result of the comparisons of the pre-to-post average for self-image development showed the statistical significance level of the 0.01 standard. Therefore, the group music therapy using the traditional drum had a positive effect on the self-image of children with hearing impairment. Third, after I participated in the group music therapy using the traditional drum, the result of the comparisons of the pre-to-post average for emotional adjustment showed the statistical significance level of the 0.01 standard. Therefore, the group music therapy using the traditional drum had a positive effect on the emotional adjustment of children with hearing impairment.

Traditional music should be succeeded and developed through the systematic education since music represents culture and history of one country. In Korea, even through the importance of Korean traditional music has been emphasized through the seven times of revision of national curriculum, music education has been still Western-oriented. This study aims to make students have experience Uttari Samul-nori and investigate the perception changes about the Korean traditional music. It is ultimately expected that students inherit the Korean traditional music and further recreate our own traditional culture. Samul-nori class was organized in the regular music curriculum twice a week, for 10 hours and various activities were tried during that time. 1st-year high school students participated in this research and they were allowed to play Samul instruments directly and play the basic rhythm suggested in the newly designed curriculum. Before and after the research, the questionnaires were sent to examine the attitude changes toward the Korean traditional music. The result of the questionnaire are as follows: First, Samul-nori activities affect positively the students' interest in the Korean traditional music and Samul-nori itself. Second, Danso(short bamboo flute) education which has been implemented most frequently during the Korean music education, is not satisfactory to the students. Third, students were satisfied with the new teaching method of Samul-nori and most students wanted to continue to take Samul-nori class. Last, students recognized the importance of Korean traditional music education after the research activities.

Among the styles of performing arts, perhaps the genre that has attracted the largest audience would be musical. Popularity of musical has brought diverse changes in our performing arts market, and, upon emerging another musical genre, called 'Korean Traditional Musical Comedy,' it has been well-received by the audiences. 'Korean Traditional Musical Comedy' is a word that are formed by merging two other terms such as 'Korean Traditional Music' and 'Musical (Comedy).' In the meantime, however, it has yet some problems in order to be defined as the genre that has concrete concepts. It is because the term such as Korean Traditional Musical Comedy was created being closely associated with a marketing purpose rather than a term that defines the characteristics of a genre of performing arts. Although this new musical genre has drawn attentions of many audiences by adding 'Musical Comedy' to 'Korean Traditional Music' that was not quite popular to the public, it still does not have any established forms so that there is a fine line between "Korean Traditional Musical Comedy" and another genre like traditional style folk opera ("Changgeuk"). Looking at the characteristics of the musical work called 'Korean Traditional Musical Comedy, in general, first of all, it is a performance where music and drama are played. Here, the distinctive characteristic of this musical is that 'Korean Traditional Music' is sung. And the kinds of Korean traditional musics being sung are mainly Pansori (dramatic story-singing) and folk-songs, and, in most cases, Korean traditional musical instruments are being used as accompanying music. In this paper, the researcher investigated the aspects of experiment centering around Korean Musical Group, Taroo. These days, various experiments has been repeated not only for the works of Taroo but other musical work presently called 'Korean Traditional Musical Comedy' also. Having encompassed overall performance factors including use of musical instruments, dance, acting, materials for drama as well as music in drama, the researcher has gone through experiments repeatedly. Meanwhile, however, the subject matters that make 'Korean Traditional Musical Comedy' mostly attractive to the audiences are music and songs or sounds. ["Sori" also called "Chang" (唱)] Particularly, under the current situation of our musicals, the role of "Sori" is extremely important. The factor that plays absolutely most important role in acceptance and transformation of "Sori" is the created Pansori. Since the created Pansori is composed with new rhythmic patterns and new narrative poems, it tells the present story. Also it draws good responses from the audiences owing to easy conveyance of dialogues. And, its new style brings diversification to organization of musical instruments, so then this leads to the arrangements of music for Korean traditional music instruments, as well as instrumental music ensemble, orchestra, and jazz band, etc. Likewise, upon appearing creative musics in 'Korean Traditional Musical Comedy,' professional music and vocal compositions have begun to emerge naturally. And, the song specialist and writer, of course, staffs including direction, lighting, and sounds, etc are required. That is, professional composition method are forced to be introduced to all areas. Other than this, there are many music pieces which are based on our unique songs and sounds ("Sori") and such traditional factors as use of lead singer for ceremony or chorus, and the method that puts weight on Pansori. Accordingly many things accomplished. However, it is required that 'Korean Traditional Musical Comedy' go through numerous discussions and more experiments. Above all, the most important things are the role of actor and actress, and their changes, and training of actor and actress further. Good news is there are good audience responses. 'Korean Traditional Musical Comedy' is an open genre. As musicals are divided into several domains according to the characteristics thereof, 'Korean Traditional Musical Comedy' will be able to show its distinctive features in various styles according to embodiment.

Even though mathematics and music play very different roles in our society, they are closely related to each other. In this paper, we studies relations between mathematics and Korean traditional music, and give some ideas to use such relations in mathematics education.
