A Study on the Collaboration Development between the SSM and Traditional Markets in Korean Government Policies

  • Purpose - This study aims to suggest policy directions for small retail markets in Korea by statistical analysis, which would help small retailers who are facing various difficulties. Research design, data, methodology - This study diagnoses the problems faced by small retail industries in Korea based on government statistics. In addition, this study identifies three areas for successful collaboration between the SSMs and traditional markets-information distribution, products, and fair trade. Results - This study makes three recommendations-information distribution, products, and fair trade. This includes activation of the existing mutual collaboration efforts, channels, CSR report writing and publicity, ethical management cooperation seminars, contract systems of no return, establishment of staff outsourcing standards, and support for suppliers' organizations. Conclusions - Our suggestions for a collaborative system (based on the three suggestions) show that collaboration rather than confrontation between large and small markets can lead to a sales increase of 2,258.2 billion Won, which is equivalent to the sales loss in 11 traditional markets in one year in Busan.

  • Purpose - This empirical analysis determines the structured causal relations between perceived value, customer satisfaction, and repurchase intention among users of traditional markets. The results of this analysis would help merchants and market operators indevisingan appropriate strategy to successfully manage traditional markets. Research design, data, methodology - The perceived value model of traditional markets includes functional value (price), functional value (quality), emotional value, and social value. In this study, the perceived value of traditional markets is considered as an independent variable, while customer satisfaction and repurchase intention are shown as the dependent variables, where customer satisfaction is also considered as the mediating variable. The study aims to ascertain the extent of influence of the perceived value of traditional markets on customer satisfaction and repurchase intention. We use regression analysis to verify the effects. The measurement items were already deemed as reliable and valid in the previous study, but for this purpose, we made some modifications. We distributed questionnaires to 300 consumers on a national scale, and finally used 241 consumer responses among these as a sample. We analyzed the data using the SPSS 21.0 statistical program. Results - We obtained the following results. First, the order of perceived value dimensions of traditional markets that positively impact customer satisfaction is functional value (price), social value, emotional value, and functional value (quality). Second, the perceived value sometimes directly affects repurchase intention; its effect is typically strong with customer satisfaction as a parameter. The order of perceived value dimensions that positively impact repurchase intention is social value, functional value (price), emotional value, and functional value (quality). Third, the perceived value significantly influences repurchase intention, with customer satisfaction as the mediating variable. Conclusions - We should recognize the importance of perceived value in retail distribution markets, such as traditional markets. Moreover, we need to develop strategies to improve the perceived value. The practical implications of the study are as follows. First, with regards to functional value (quality; price) dimensions, we should have an appropriate assortment of high quality products that are reasonably priced. In addition, customers are satisfied with the friendly service, discounts, and other benefits provided by the merchants. Second, in terms of emotional value dimension, we need to develop differentiated events that provide fun and emotional experience to the customers. Third, in the context of social values dimension, we should strive to positively influence society to enhance social image through activities such as social services and contribution to community development. On the basis of these results, we present the implications, limitations, and future directions for the research. One of the policy implications of the study is that merchants of traditional markets must actively select customers and develop customer value. However, this study is limited in the fact that the population used for data collection is not fully representative, as the survey only covered some specific areas. Moreover, future studies could also benefit with additional research using moderating variables.

  • 제주지역의 전통시장은 전국의 전통시장과 마찬가지로 신유통 채널의 확산, 대형유통업체들의 가격경쟁력 등으로 위기에 직면해 있다. 물론 전통시장을 위협하는 요소들을 극복하기 위해 다양한 지원사업이 정책적으로 지원되고 있다. 하지만, 시장 고유의 특화된 상품 부재, 체계적인 마케팅 및 고객관리 미흡, 상인들의 의식개혁 미흡 등이 여전히 긍정적 변화를 이끌어내지 못하는데 일조하고 있는 실정이다. 본 연구에서는 전통시장 활성화를 도모하기 위해 이러한 한계를 극복할 수 있는 정책적 과제와 시사점을 제주지역 전통시장을 통해 살펴보고자 한다. 이를 위해 제주지역 전통시장 현황을 분석하고, 시너지 효과를 낼 수 있는 방안으로 전통 시장별로 취급품목과 서비스 특성화, 관광산업과 연계한 성장전략 수립, 마케팅 경쟁력 강화등을 중점적으로 제시하였다.

뉴실버 소비자의 소매업태 속성평가 및 소비자만족도 연구: 백화점과 전통시장을 중심으로 (Retailing Attribute Evaluation and Satisfaction of New Silver Consumers: Focus on Department Stores and Traditional Markets)

  • Baby boomers who have rebuilt the Korean economy over the last half a century are now transitioning into a silver generation who are over 65 years of age. New silver consumers are qualitatively and quantitatively different from the previous generation and are considered to be 'the single most consumption-leading generation.' The number of new silver consumers using department stores and traditional markets has increased. SPSS ver. 21.0 was used with the methods of frequency analysis, t-test, one-way analysis of variance (ANOVA), device master record test, and regression analysis. This research studies consumer satisfaction of new silver consumers on department stores and traditional markets among retailing. The improvement of the parking environment is the most urgent issue for traditional markets because the long-term assessments of parking areas indicate that it is necessary to provide improved convenience for consumers. Salesman satisfaction has improved and consumer satisfaction ranks salesman satisfaction high for traditional markets; however, price satisfaction is low and the distribution system should be improved to supply products at a lower price. Salesman and price satisfaction should be improved at depart stores. Traditional markets should also promote consumer satisfaction through consistent management to make consumers trust information in regards to quality control and production and distribution; in addition, department stores should increase consumer satisfaction by maintaining store systems such as product diversification and display, cleanness, and atmosphere.

전통시장 관련법 개정 방안에 대한 고찰 : 성남 모란시장을 중심으로 (Consideration of the Traditional Market-Related Law Revision Plan: Focus on Moranjang in Seongnam)

  • 우리나라의 유통산업분야에는 아직도 법적·제도적 보완시책이 부족하며, 특히 전통시장을 비롯한 중소 영세상인들에 대한 보다 체계적인 육성·지원방안이 시급한 실정이다. 이러한 전통시장을 지원하기 위해 2004년도에 제정된 전통시장 특별법의 지원대상과 범위는 종전에는 단위시장으로 국한하였으나, 이후 시장 및 상점가, 시장활성화구역, 더 나아가 상권활성화구역을 지정하여 지원할 수 있도록 확대시켜왔다. 그러나 전통시장 활성화 및 지원에 관한 기준이 되는 특별법이 전통시장의 개념을 다소 획일적으로 규정함으로 인해 무등록시장에 대한 법률적 개념의 미비함과 같은 문제점을 지니고 있다. 여기서 무등록시장이란 특별법에서 정한 계량화된 기준을 충족하지 못함에 따라 실제 시장기능 수행여부와 무관하게 법률적인 전통시장에 포함되지 않는 시장을 일컫는다. 본 연구는 이러한 특별법 규정에 대한 문제점을 도출하고 개선방안을 찾고자 논의를 전개한다. 사례는 모란민속5일장을 중심으로 한다. 본 연구는 새로운 시각으로 접근하고자 한다. 즉, 경험적인 측면에서 현실에 직접적으로 접목할 수 있는 논의를 하고자 한다. 따라서 최근 이슈화되고 있는 논의 중에 법적 보호를 받지 못하는 무등록시장을 중심으로 논의하는 한편, 연구방법론 측면에서 볼 때 규범적 연구방법론을 견지한다. 유통학 분야에 있어 기존의 연구가 대개는 경험적 분석기법을 많이 활용하지만, 본 연구의 특성상 법적 제도적인 관점으로 접근할 때 가장 효율적인 논의가 되기 위해서는 현장에서 바로 접목이 가능한 규범적 연구방법론을 택하여 본 연구를 전개하고자 한다.

창원시 재래시장의 실태 분석 (Analysis of Trends of Traditional Markets in Changwon)

  • 국내 유통시장의 개방에 따른 유통산업구조의 변화는 창원시의 유통산업에도 커다란 영 향을 미치고 있다. 특히 탑마트, 아람마트 등의 할인점에 이어 최근에 개장한 대형 유통매 장인 홈플러스의 입점과 12월 개점 예정인 룻데 마그넷은 기존의 일반 재래시장의 상권을 상당히 잠식하여 창원시의 재래시장은 저가판매라는 고유의 장점을 상실해 가고 있으며, 또한 전근대적인 유통활동, 영세성, 비효율적 경영, 조직화 협업화 부족, 시설의 낙후성 등 으로 경쟁력을 상실해 가고 있다. 이 같은 재래시장의 침체와 위축은 지역 영세상인의 생계문제와 창원시의 경제에까지 영향을 미칠 것이다. 이와 같은 배경에서 본 연구는 창원시 재래시장의 실태분석을 통해 문제점을 파악하는 것을 목적으로 한다. 본 연구의 방법은 문헌연구와 실태조사를 통하여 문제점을 제시하기로 한다.

An Analysis of Odors in Traditional Market in Wonju, Gangwon-do

  • Purpose: As interest in odor increases, odor complaints are also rapidly increasing. Traditional markets are not included in malodor control areas and are not easy to manage, so measure the odor substances generated in traditional markets and analyze the cause of high concentration points. Research design, data and methodology: The average value was presented by continuously measuring the combined odor, TVOC, hydrogen sulfide, and ammonia for 5 minutes at 100m intervals in Joong-ang traditional market, Jayu traditional market, Doraemi traditional market, and Sundae Alley in Wonju, Gangwon-do. In each market, up to the third highest concentration point for each measurement item was marked and analyzed. Results: The Joong-ang traditional market, Doraemi traditional market, and Sundae Alley had high readings at the intersection. The Jayu traditional market had high measurements around restaurants and clothing stores. In addition, the concentration of complex malodors was also high at the points where the hydrogen sulfide concentration was measured. Conclusions: Odor generated in traditional markets is an important indicator for merchants and consumers. Therefore, in future studies, analysis that can supplement the limitations of measurement data and seasonal effects is needed.

  • 본 연구는 전통시장이 갖는 경제적, 대중적, 행정적, 역사 문화적 기능을 중심으로 전통시장의 장소성을 드러낼 수 있는 유 무형 관련 자료의 기록화를 위한 구성요소를 제안하는데 그 목적이 있다. 연구목적 달성을 위해 문헌조사와 서울약령시 스토리 아카이브, 광주 대안예술시장 아카이브 프로젝트 D, 대구 북성로 공구 박물관의 기록화 사례를 조사하였다. 문헌조사를 통해 물리적 환경, 사회적 요소, 경험/인물요소를 전통시장의 장소성 구성요소로 정리하였으며, 이를 바탕으로 전통시장의 대중적 기능, 역사, 문화적 기능, 경제적 기능, 행정적 기능을 중심으로 전통시장의 장소성을 드러낼 수 있는 구체적 기록화 구성요소들을 제시하였다.

전통시장 이용객의 장소인식과 정책적 함의 (Place Recognition of Traditional Market Customers and Policy Directions for Revitalizing Communities)

  • 본 연구에서는 전통시장을 소재지 입지에 따라 도시형과 농어촌형으로 구분하고, 이들 유형에 대해 각각 서울 종로구의 통인시장과 경북 봉화군의 봉화상설시장을 사례연구 대상지로 선정하였다. 이들 시장을 방문하는 이용객을 대상으로 지역주민의식에 대해 설문한 결과, 지역의 전통시장을 소개할 의향이 있는 사람들은 그렇지 않은 사람들보다 지역주민으로서의 자부심이 더 강한 것으로 나타났다. 또한 해당 지역의 전통시장을 어떻게 인식하고 있는지 지역공동체 지역문화 지역경제 부문 등 모두 24개의 항목을 설정하여 설문하였다. 그 결과 통인시장과 봉화상설시장의 이용객들은 자기 지역의 전통시장이 다른 지역주민에게 인정받는 시장이길 기대하는 정도가 강하고, 자기 지역의 전통시장이 언론에 소개되면 기분이 좋은 정도 역시 높음을 알 수 있었다. 그리고 지역의 전통시장이 발전하면 지역이 발전하는 것처럼 느껴지는 정도도 높게 나타났으며, 전통시장의 발전을 위해 지역주민 모두가 힘을 모아야 한다는 의지도 강한 것으로 확인되었다. 지역활성화를 위한 수단으로 전통시장을 육성하기 위해서는, 시장의 공간을 인간의 삶을 담고 있는 장소로 바라보아야 한다. 또한 전통시장 문제를 인간적 문화적으로 접근할 필요가 있으며, 시장의 활성화는 '더욱 전통시장다움'에서 해법을 찾아야 할 것으로 판단된다.

정부의 전통시장 지원 정책 효과에 대한 실증연구 (The Policy Effects on Traditional Retail Markets Supported by the Korean Government)

  • Purpose - A traditional retail market is a place that offers economic opportunity to employees and employers alike it also is a place where the community can meet. The Korean government has invested three trillion won to improve physical and non-physical aspects in traditional retail markets since 2004. However, little research on this has been conducted. We explore this research gap that could lead to theory extension. We analyze consumption behavior with respect to traditional retail markets through an empirical analysis, thus overcoming limits in previous research. We empirically analyze policy effects of traditional retail market projects supported by the Korean government. Research design, data, and methodology - We propose a traditional retail market improvement plan via the relation between cause and effect resulting from the analysis. More specifically, logit analysis was carried out with 1,754 consumers in 16 cities nationwide. In order to analyze consumer consumption behaviors nationwide, the probability was analyzed using a logit model. This research analyzes the link between support and non-support by the Korean government using binary values. The dependent variable is whether Korean government support is implemented; the binomial logistic regression is used as the statistical estimation technique. The object variables are:1 (support) or 0 (nonsupport), and the prediction value is between 1 and 0. As a result of the factor analysis of questions related to attributes of service quality, four factors were extracted: convenience, product, facilities, and service. Results - The results indicate that convenience, product, and facilities have a significant influence on consumer satisfaction in accordance with the government's traditional retail market support. Additionally, the results reveal that convenience, product, facilities, and service all have a significant influence on consumer satisfaction in a traditional retail market's service quality and consumer satisfaction. Finally, the analysis indicates that the highly satisfied traditional retail market customer has a significant influence on revisit intention. Moreover, the results reveal that the highly satisfied traditional retail market customer has a significant influence on recommendation intention. Conclusions - This research focused on consumers nationwide to measure policy effects of traditional retail markets compared to previous research that focused on one traditional retail market or a specific area. We verified the relationship of service quality and customer satisfaction and consumer behavior based on service quality theory. The results indicate that consumer satisfaction of traditional retail markets supported by service quality factors has a significant impact. In a concrete form, the results indicate that these effects are from facility modernization projects and marketing support projects of the Korean government. The results also imply that these facility and management support effects from the Korean government have been consistent. We realize that the Korean government has to selectively support traditional retail markets in major cities and small and medium-sized cities. To that end, the Korean government needs to select a concentration strategy for the revitalization of traditional retail markets.
